Tie goes to the offense? That is really close on that overhead, even frozen in time. I really can't fault the AR either way.
I also wanted to say that Zelaya is a player. Did I hear right that he was on the books at CUSA? Did he washout? We need more Zalayas in MLS, not less.
Mayen was on the books at CUSA. I'm sure Zelaya will get a few looks after this tourney and not just MLS looks.
I think Wahl tweeted recently that when he asked Zelaya if he wanted to play in MLS he smiled and said his current contract is done in 6 months. I think he is a near lock for MLS. DC would make the most sense due to fans but who knows where he will end up.
Holy sh!t, that's funny! Just watched the highlight video. I have to say, Gus and Waldo did very well just judging from those clips. I do prefer a dyed-in-the-wool soccer guy, but maybe Gus can adapt, and become a soccer guy. I know one guy who was really more into lacrosse than soccer, and at one point he decided to commit to soccer. Now he's head coach of the LA Galaxy.
What is most important is that JK gave him the '10' on his back for this tournament. I'm not sure that Dempsey will relinquish it for the full team though.
According to that 2nd screenshot, it looks like there's no offside. The keeper and that defender on the near post look like they're keeping him on. Either way, it would've been extremely close.
Dempsey's been wearing his traditional #8 shirt in qualifiers. Apart from a couple of games where everybody's been numbered 1-18 or 23, I don't think anybody's taken the #10. I think they kept it open for him.
When I checked yesterday there were a ton of tickets available in the upper deck. Like, 85% of the sections. And the second tier was hardly sold at all.
You are all kidding right? People don't know Dempsey's number from Donovan's? I think we need to have some lessons on US fandom haha
Los Angeles is a good possibility. Keane and Donovan are long in the tooth, and Zelaya can learn a few things in the 1-2 seasons they have left. He would also have a strong fanbase in Southern California too. And I will say this--MLS is going to have a field day with new signings after this Gold Cup. There are a lot of players out there. Heck, I saw one or two prospects from the Haitian team.
He'd have a decent fanbase in NYC too. Henry has probably only got another year or so, Espindola isn't really getting it done, and none of our prospects are anywhere close to ready. I expect NY to make a serious play for the guy.
Houston also has a big ES population but out of all those teams (NY, LA, Houston) the DC area has the most to benefit.
That's assuming that RB has finally gotten the memo (after Juninho) that Cosmos-style geriatric former world class players rarely make much impact in MLS, and that RB already has all the celebrity it needs in Henry and Cahill. The majority of the DPs that make a real impact in this league are the prime-age Central and South Americans who would probably otherwise be playing in Liga MX if they weren't MLS DP's. My favorite NYRB signing this season has definitely been Olave. Pretty much a case in point, even if Espindola has been a slight disappointment.
Don't forget 2011. Mexico and the US are almost mirror images of 2 years ago, when Mexico was ripping through teams and we lost a group stage game and struggled to beat Guadalupe. Hell we needed Freddy adu for the panama semi final rematch. But if it weren't for Cherundolo's untimely injury we might have taken that final. No matter how well we each play to get there I would not underestimate Mexico's chances if the final winds up between us.
