Really...a friendly where he was surrounded by reserves and academy players? C'mon man if you remember you can tell he was trying to force that game. You are more intelligent than that. A friendly smh... Then his only "REAL"(more than 9 min worth) appearance as a sub was Houston and he played some really great ball the Seba. other than that how can you say the sample size to judge his performance is big enough.

You're going to judge his worth by one single pass that was pretty good? He's been here 4 years and has shown he is undisciplined and is easily taken out of a match. I mean, I don't see why that's so hard to see. He came into that Houston match and within 2 minutes lost the ball, grabbed the Houston player who took the ball by his shirt and took him down, and got called for an easy foul. His cons seriously outnumber his pros. A friendly is still a match and a time where you should prove yourself. If the other players were crap he should have easily risen above them and put in work...but he didn't.

Agreed. I'm a Fernandez fan, and I think he's going to be good here for us as time goes on. I don't see it at forward though. Hopefully he can solve a long-standing problem at LM. Or, maybe he fools me and makes the adjustment and contributes positively to a different position on the field. What are the realistic odds that happens though? :whistling:.........................

*j/k: you had got me thinking with all that "what people need to acknowledge stuff".............;)

thats my point i cant judge his worth because i really dont feel he has been given enough time. Last season he was making progress and a was injured, the year before that you can tell he was not ready. I sense the hate is strong in you and thats ok. im not ready to judge when someone has not been given a chance to pass or fail. Leo after three solid games will be a talent for the U but he is not ready. But at a time when injuries and Nat team call ups are stripping your team of depth why not give the guy a chance to prove his worth. But im not surprised. I will continue to sit in 120 row G and cheer the boys on.

I'm not sure why anyone would see Fernandes contributing at this point. Maybe he will improve if he sees consistent minutes at HCI, but he simply should not be starting. Torres should start over him, but we all know how this coach feels about Roger.

I don't like Cruz's game, but heaping abuse on him while he is on the field is really unacceptable. Players should be strongly supported while on the field, unless there are some extremely extenuating circumstances. Cruz is going to end his career prematurely with the way he plays, however.

Something something "meaningless friendly" something something.

His sub appearance against Houston he did the right things and created chances. He's obviously good enough to be in the 18, however Hack's penchant to sub Hopp then x then y hasn't worked into the scenario where Roger would be needed very often.

And brought in right before the Union were taking a corner. Hernandes has a few inches on him, but yeah, bring in the shorter guy.

He was given a chance in a game that didn't mean anything to show what he can do, so its ok that he didn't do anything because the game didn't mean anything? I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense. If you dog it in a game that doesn't mean anything, why would a coach want to play you in a game that DOES mean something?

Jorge Gonzalez missing a handball in the box where have I seen that one before? Oh yeah at PPL on May 4.........

And to the PP pointing out the call in the panama game........ if that is the case then we got screwed at RSL as Gaddis in no way intentionally played the ball with his hand......

yes, I'm well aware of HANDLING. the point was that it is now a major point of emphasis that officials be sure there is a deliberate attempt to handle the ball

Thats funny. You're very hypocritical.. agenda maybe..

I'm sure you cheered him on though and didnt boo....how you can be critical of Torres who rarely sees the pitch but back Cruz and Hackworth is very funny....your posts, for me anyway, are nothing but wind ups....no credibility whatsoever

Can Cruz do what Torres does(aside from sit on the bench, maybe)? No. Can Torres do what Cruz does? No. I don't know why you people make this an either/or debate. Cruz has value to the team, and especially so for a player at his pay grade. Torres, especially for his pay grade, is a waste of space who doesn't have a place in the team's tactics. We are an up and down the wings kind of team, and Torres adds nothing to that, while Cruz fights for balls on defense and offense, wins corners, and tires defenses...things which Torres does not have the build for nor the capacity to do so. And as to your initial accusation, not cheering =/= booing. He means nothing to me, and so I wouldn't go out of my way to boo him. He is a non-factor.

For such a 'means nothing to you', you cant help bash the guy at every opportunity....Cruz as a starter is embarrassing....the amount of good things he does is automatically erased by the total lack of professional abilities......as you said he can run and he has a role and that role is to see a game out and give the real starter a breather, nothing more, imo

Low bar or not, the 2013 U are unquestionably improved over the 2012 U. Only those coming into the season with unrealistic expectations wouldn't see making the playoffs as an accomplishment - our target striker was unproven after coming off Achilles surgery, we lost our centerback captain, the guy we brought in to partner with him was coming off injury, played one game last year and required a second surgery despite previous assertions that he was fit and we a recycled club hero who seemed to have lost his form. Our spot in 2nd place is tenuous, but I'll take it.

As supporters, we got spoiled with the second-year playoff appearance especially when the U did nothing to build a playoff team. We were incredibly lucky throughout 2011 right up until the playoffs when Houston proved we had no business being there. I'll admit my expectations have gone up this year. While getting into the playoffs will be an accomplishment, I would like to see a good showing but I have no reason to believe we can make it beyond the quarterfinals.

Red card was not until the 79th min. Hoppenot sub was before the red card @ 70th min.
So the situation at that point was was 1-1, at home, against a team that was clearly happy with the 1 point they had.
Chivas wasn't taking risks or chasing the game. They were keeping 4 at the back and dropping aggressively already so no amount of speed was going to get beyond them.

I think Cruz is very important to this team. I say that because our midfield is terrible. They cannot maintain any possession. So the advantage to Cruz is it is an easy way to get the ball up the field by playing the ball up the sideline on the wing that he is on. Is he the best? not even close, but I think he is important.
