I don't see how I am wrong on a opinion. Valdes did what he did. It's a matter of how you read into it. Personally, I don't like how he went about his business. It doesn't make me wrong just as it doesn't make you wrong if you think he acted in a justified manner.
Regardless of how people feel about Valdes, I still doubt we will ever see him in blue and gold again.
Didn't we attach a fee to buy in the loan? Does anyone (calling Zman Gunner) know the fee? I'd be surprised if we get more than 2-2.5 million for him, and I'm expecting less than that. Still, imagine all the shrimp we could buy with that money . . .
We probably never know the true amount of the transfer fee but I can tell you that there is an advantage to the Union for not selling him last year vs next year and that is they will get more of the cut (2/3 us, 1/3 MLS) because he was under contract for that extra year. If they sold him before the season we would have got a 50/50 split with MLS. Since the U appear to care more about money than other things (I don't think that is the case but they definitely make it look that way) this makes more sense for them. Ideal situation for the U is that he is not bought by Santa Fe, returns to us and is given an extension of a year or 2 and then kills it in the World Cup and EPL comes calling. I will add that I am going to respectfully disagree with your assessment on Valdes and his intentions on leaving.
The main difference is Ream is quite a bit younger than Valdes. Plus, he played for a bigger team that I would assume has more negotiation leverage.
I hope for his sake he doesn't go to Europe. Being so far away from Colombia would surely crush his World Cup dreams. (That's what we're supposed to worry about on here correct? Valdes' World Cup dreams?)
that's not the point. Unless he goes to some scandinavian team. I'm sure his coach and he both would love to have him go to europe. 1, close to colombia with Copa libertadores competition due to high competition level so coach could keep an eye on him. or 2 somewhere else where competion is higher than MLS based on the coaches bias. I'm sure Valdes could have gone to Mexico, Brasil, Argentina, even without Libertadores, or to Europe. Again, this is based on coaches bias, not mines and it does not mean I agree with that.
We are def starting to get into the weeds of other team discussions, but what's the skinny with Seattle not getting some amount of money from this deal?
They are getting money, but it won't be allocation money. The money they get can't be used to buy down player contracts, pay transfer fees (at least i don't think so, could be wrong), be used in trades, etc.
Sounds like his final attempt to play was in Philly and Nicky Sack vetoed the idea. If none of the other 18 teams is willing to give him a shot, I'm glad that we didn't. He's a nice guy and all but having him would be another Albright on a roster with only one open slot.
Agreed, I'm glad we didn't take him back on the roster. But he's still more than welcome at the tailgates amirite?!?!
Nice to see Gabriel Gomez out there helping Panama eliminate Mexico from the Gold Cup. It wasn't a spectacular performance or anything, but he does seem to bring some confidence and bravado, much as he did with the U.
So the draft pick most ready for MLS - or whatever Hackworth spewed out - is plying his trade in the USL Pro with the Charlotte Eagles. http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/58092584/22311-58092651/21972331.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Okai
