and now we're stacked at central defense, which was a chronic worry at the beginning of the season. happy days :)

    great offseason thus far

I'm very pleased. He (like Ike) had a few braindead moments in his initial stint with us, but overall I thought he had acquitted himself well and am happy to see him back.

I had forgotten about the trade . Nana Attakora, Jacob Peterson and forward Alan Gordon for RJ? Wow, looking back, Toronto really screwed that up considering RJ is now in Portland.....

    Nana looked good last night.

Gordon, Cronin, Attakora, Harden, Gargan......with them getting RJ. ummm, yeah thank you TFC for replacing Houston as our trade suckers.

The Quakes also sent allocation $$ and an International roster slot along with Johnson to TFC for Attakora, Gordon and Peterson. But still, it was a great trade for San Jose. Actually, I think all of the trades that the Quakes have done in the past few years have been good. The only one that comes to mind that might be questioned is the trade of Brandon McDonald to DC for allocation $$, but based on reports the Quakes thought Brandon was going to leave MLS after 2011 and go overseas. DC ended up signing him for a lot of money, which the Quakes apparently didn't want to do (Brandon made $258k guaranteed last year). I know McDonald has played pretty well, but that's still way too much money on a central defender in a salary cap league like MLS.

Off the top of my head - trades made in the last couple of years:

Johnson, Allocation $$, International slot to TFC for Gordon, Attakora, Peterson
McDonald to DC for Allocation $$
Draft pick to Columbus for Lenhart
4th round 2013 draft pick & International slot to NY for Ballouchy
Allocation $$ to Dallas for Chavez
First round supplemental draft pick in 2012 to RSL for Alexandre
Allocation $$ to Vancouver for Salinas

The only two that you could say didn't work out are the McDonald trade (although it's questionable whether the Quakes would have re-signed him anyway) and the Alexandre trade (but a supplemental draft pick isn't much to give up).

Nana played a great game last night... I remember him back in 2011, and I thought then he had promise... I think he had to go overseas and get it out of his system.

    Welcome back!

Agreed, and I'd say that the McDonald trade was a good one in the end. McDonald makes a ton of money and, while he's good, he's not that great. He's a solid player like a couple dozen other CBs in the league. Bernardez, Hernandez, Attakora, and Harden are all equal to or better than McDonald. Based on Harden's play out of position at RB and Attakora's play when he's healthy, I might even say that all four of them are better than McDonald (especially given the wage differences).

2nd Round pick to Portland for rights to Fucito.
2nd Round pick from Sporks for rights to Opara.
(so the net was rights to Opara for rights to Fucito.)

We'll miss him whenever Hernandez is screwing up, which nowadays is at least 2-3 times per match.

Nana off the Canadian Gold Cup squad due to ongoing concussion symptoms. If we're lucky he's improved enough by next weekend to help in the Seattle match.

Why, because of his concussion issues? Could they really be season-ending? Is there something you know that we don't?

    I HAVE TO KNOW!!!

(Well, I actually don't. Let me rephrase, more politely: I'd like to know. It would be awesome for me to know. Please, good sir/ma'am, would you be so kind as to let me know. Thank you.)

I hope he's back soon but sounds kinda serious. He has been out for almost a month except for the one game he did play where he didn't want to head the ball.

I don't know anything other than, this stuff takes time and some players don't recover. I'm assuming he will not recover this season because I'm a pesimist.

When players are out this long for concussion I start to worry about them as people instead of just whether they can play for us.
