I noticed the group of 6 in front of me (in section 6) were pretty good until about the 5th beer. By the second half they were in full YSA mode, so I think you're onto something, only perhaps in reverse. It reminded me of the old George Carlin line about someone telling him that drugs just enhance your natural personality and his response was, "What if you're naturally an a**hole?" (post edited for MLS standards)
Why stop there? I'm sure you could get the SG's to stand on their heads for 90 minutes if you threatened to take their beer away.
Naw...most of us spend our money at the tailgate... $9 beers are way out of most of our price range...now if you offered free beer you might get somewhere
A little off topic, but.. best chant I've heard in a long time came from the 3 year old kid sitting next to me last game "R S L-M-N-O-P!"
SEMI-RELATED...I just read that NYRB FO is offering $500 for each match to supporters for tifo that YSA is eliminated...interesting approach
The money will be doled out in $2,000 increments, meaning the stadium will have to be 'YSA' free for four games before the supporters are rewarded.
Makes sense now...I got my info from tweets and such...reliable tweets, but incomplete info nonetheless. I wonder if they get three matches YSA and the screwed up the 4th one...do they have to start over?
Probably cheaper than printing pamphlets making oblique references to YSA (makes me laugh, half the people who read that probably don't know what that means). I love the NYRB idea.
It's a cool gesture...but SG's have a kind of DIY ethic that goes against this. The idea is that FO is funding tifo and whatnot then sooner or later they will want total control over everything.
Townhall meeting at the Stadium on Tuesday 7/16 7 pm for SG's and fans alike. Garth, Trey and others will be there if anyone is interested. *EDIT* The sole purpose is to address and discuss the YSA issue
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that anyone that makes the effort to attend this meeting is not a YSA offender. Whether attendees can actually have any effect on what other people do is questionable.
Oh I agree...I'm just passing it along and trying to stimulate discussion. I think they should have done this before the Facebook/twitter wars started. There are some fences needing mending on both sides.
THIS so very much THIS At least they're recognizing (I hope) the mistake of making the threats before discussion.
It looks like somebody didn't like the stadium atmosphere. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/56597620-82/fans-lake-salt-ysa.html.csp Wash their mouths out with soap?
catch 22, there Without those "drunks in the south end" telling you to "act like a fool" you wouldn't have been hooked. Those guys help (though are not solely responsible) the atmopshere that you previously alluded to as being the reason you loved coming. We can be better, but bitching and moaning about how they yell things you don't like while you sit on your ass isn't helping. Want the atmosphere to be different/better? take an initiative to do so yourself. You'll be amazed what happens if you do. People want to do the same, they're just hesitant to jump first
I think either people are jumping on the cursing bandwagon or the FO is using shills to do this. IMO that match was pretty tame. People were chanting Utah Apples (which I think is stupid...it's too close to said banned chant). There was a medium size group of us that didn't chant at all.
OH NO AN ADULT DRANK A BEER AND SAID A BAD WORD IN THE SECTION SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED AROUND PEOPLE WHO DO THOSE THINGS REGULARLY, WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN
