I'm with you. We need to get used to a defense that is . . . well, not very good. We generated a lot of chances from a variety of different places. One of my favorites was a Big Red bomb from about 25 yards out that he hit really hard and that was dipping like a Phil Niekro knuckle vasoline ball. Busch did a good job corralling it and not giving up a rebound. I also thought Rolfe largely sucked through the first half, but then played really well in the second half. If he wakes up, and Duka continues with his improvement, we are suddenly a passable offense. We won't win the league, but we will be more entertaining. And the Cup is a real possibility.
Yeah, there were several people in our section that were laughing and openly mocking "our" show and literally watching the distant show to the south. When you are in a town with the Chicago White Sox, who are masters of the post game fireworks show, there is a bar that you have to reach. Go big or go home. I guess it's time to go home.
Good teams win even when they don't play well. Then again, good teams also have a killer instinct that tells them to beat down a wounded opponent like tonight's SJ team so take that as you will. Oh, upon watching the replay, I don't think SJ's second goal touched Lindpere at all. Watching it live at TP, it looked like it deflected off his face but it was an Anibaba own goal. Anibaba has now outscored Deep Dish by two goals, unless you count own goals as negative numbers.
Every Friday night the Joliet Slammers put on a post-game fireworks show that is infinitely better than the sad display we saw tonight. People waited for a few minutes for the real fireworks to start and then started leaving well before the *snort* "grand finale". Dollar Menu should feel shame.
I noticed he had two long passes that were great through balls that went to the other team. In both instances the Fire player he was passing to was caught napping and didn't make the run. I'd like to see his passing numbers for the game.
Watched it again this morning. Really impressed with Magee. I hope half the team ripped Santos a new one for not giving the ball up. On the replay, Santos clearly spotted a wide open Magee and he decided to dribble into 3 defenders. Duka had a very good game. Yes, his goal was crap, but his best shot of the night took one helluva save by Busch to keep out of the net. Would have been an easy tap over the crossbar for SJ, but BS never should have giving Gordon the opportunity. It's become very clear why he couldn't break into the starting 11 on a club in dire need of defenders. Never saw the knock on Nyarko that took him out of the game. Any word on his injury? The game never should have been that close, but 3 points is 3 points and we kept the streak alive.
The best semi-amateur displays in the city (3-4 at a time) are always in Winnimac Park (Foster/Damen) Everything stolen from the suburban municipalities goes off with no safety considerations or cops at all.
The Fire have done gigantic displays that are worthy of praise. They were set up in the lot by the cock fighting ring so fan safety issues can't be used as an excuse. What you saw last night was simply more evidence of the game day budget being cut to the point that it severely and adversely affects the game day experience. Thank god their customer service has improved so much or the day of game experience during a losing streak like the beginning of our season could have permanently pushed away a couple thousand fans. Customer service is free of course.
Be sure to count the one he perfectly chested down to a blue shirt in our own box. He actually had to turn to direct the ball to the SJ player who seemed to shocked by his good fortune. The really disturbing thing on that one is that he must have had no clue that guy was standing alone ten feet to his left. That actually explains a lot.
This was the first time we've given up more than one goal since the Portland game and we haven't given up more than two since the Chivas game. As for last night, SJ attempted 11 shots which is a little below the league average. Our defense is fine. I can't remember any cutting of funds for the "game day experience". But good customer service most certainly is not free, you have to hire employees to execute it. Fortunately, the FO head count has risen markedly in the last few years.
Why would you remember it? It's something Posada talked about and got much worse this year. The customer service is being delivered by bodies that would be there anyway. Concessions, parking, security, not by extra bodies Andrew has hired. Don't stretch the truth.
I'm not claiming he has good distribution, but his pass completion stats were 29/6, 83%. Lindpere on the other hand, in about 25 minutes, managed to attempt 10 passes, completing only 4, 40%. He looked dreadful out there. He certainly didn't make his case to be starting over Duka very well...
Because I partake in the game day experience frequently, I would think I would notice if it had gotten worse in the last couple years.
We won, but Segares was gassed in the second half and his "swing and a miss" led to the corner that tied it 2-2. Kloppas needs to give Jumper some minutes and rest Segares at some point in the season. The perfect time to do it would have been when: 1. Segares, at age 32, had played 3 full games in a week and then there was a game a week later 2. a home game 3. against an opponent near the bottom of the table 4. the opponent is missing at least 10 of their regular players, including their main offensive threats Jumper should have started last night, and the decision by Kloppas not to use him almost cost us the game, and will likely cost us a game later in the season. If he doesn't trust Jumper in the situation we found ourselves in last night then he should not be on the team. I'm a big fan of Kloppas except in this regard. It may be part of his old "player's mentality", but it was a poor coaching decesion, one that has cost us before and will cost us again.
Well you haven't noticed. That's on you. I don't remember but I thought Jumper didn't play in the reserves game. Maybe he has a knock? Did he play a half maybe?
Good point. Although Sega was mostly solid tonight this is indeed a perfect example of Frank's rigid lineup mentality. The Fire really need to get some of these reserves playing time, although the poor start to the season has forced a 'maximum points' mentality upon the club.
