This team is the same one that won the Supporter's Shield last year, and this game is the start of our come-back. Sometimes the it is a fine line between winning and losing and it just takes a little bit of extra effort and belief in ourself to get across that line. The season is young and the play-offs and the MLS Cup are still within reach. It is time to bring back the "We Believe" attitude.
OK, I'm going to demand some additional props for the following posts: From the pre-game thread, posted last Saturday: Yes, there was some Scotch involved. Also from the pre-game thread, posted last Sunday, more Scotch was involved. I edited out the YouTube clip. Also from the pre-game thread, posted yesterday. No Scotch involved this time - at this point I was operating on 2003 "We Believe" pure faith. And at halftime of the game when we were down 1-0: This one was fueled by faith and a fair amount of pre-game alcohol. So like I said, we may not win any more games for the rest of the season, but I told you we would win this one, and we did. It just goes to show that drinking alcohol is the solution to (and cause of) many of life's little problems.
So the FO wants to ban this because it's important for atmosphere in stadiums to suck (yeah I got it it's nominally the fighting incident as a way for the FO to take the action it wanted to anyway)? ********ing lame.
Keane was also clever to wind up Bernardez right before his 2nd yellow by undercutting him on a header. Donovan was incredible. Keane was the only guy that belonged on the field with him. How many sitters did they set up their teammates with?
Lenhart is not slow, especially for a target man. Last year most of Gordon's goals were when he subbed in late after Lenhart had softened up the D. He always credits Lenhart.
DEAR FO: DEAR MLS: NO BAN CAN TAME OUR PASSION NO SUPPORTERS CAN REPLACE US WE ARE STRONGER THAN EVER
I disagree. The 2nd yellow card was a dive by the LA player. Watch the replay. Bernardez slides but doesn't touch him with the feet and only get the player lightly with the hand. But LA player fell down like someone in a Hollywood movie that just got shot. See this highlights here at 5:40. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-06-29-SJ-v-LA/recap I don't know if the disciplinary committee can review dives like that, but they should. Bernardez's second yellow should be rescinded that the LA player that dove should be disciplined.
Two Gals, One Cup, get it right. Though I'm not sure how many fans actually understood the reference... (hint, if anyone doesn't, DO NOT Google it. You've been warned.) And to think I was considering not going to this game, given the face-melting heat, the Mad Max traffic, and an expectation of a proper ass-beating. I've got to say, as prone are the Quakes to soul-crushing depths of suckitude, only a team from the deepest, most frozen circle of hell could turn a win into a loss by giving up two goals in stoppage time... a man up... to their most hated rivals. Cursed they were born, cursed they shall always be... the LA Galaxy!
Just got home from the game and am watching the 2H again on the DVR. While the crowd was pretty quiet up until the 80th minute, those last 5 minutes were awesome. Surely that game surpassed all the 2012 heart stoppers. Shea and Gordon were great never say die Goonies. jahn also had an impact; his headers forward were controlled, and he had one important defensive header. And we were very lucky; LA should have had 3-4 more goals. But, these things were maddening: the constant long ball, the minimal use of subs, and why no one was marking Robbie Keane in the midfield when he was creating all their offense. But otherwise, a wonderful win.
Whether Muma deserved the second yellow is debatable, but he was making me nervous well before that incident. I don't know if he was mad about blowing the 2nd goal, or about getting fouled without a call, or what, but he was in a funk. He gets his head going in the wrong direction and his feet follow. The ref caught onto LA's diving pretty quickly. But that also meant that the level of fouling increased. I know I've said this more than once, but I really hate to see players being held in a bear hug with no call. It such a common tactic, it's been discussed, everyone agrees it's against the LOTG, and yet it continues. But I digress. In other game attributes. The Epicenter area was pretty lame. For a big game like this, I'd expect more of a carnival feel instead of a half dozen sponsors trying to lure customers plus the usual array of food trucks. The skydivers, as always, were cool, and I assume there was some atmospheric reason that they jumped from the plane when it was between us and the setting sun, making it almost impossible to watch them. The Star Spangled Banner rendition was a rare treat, and I missed the halftime show (catching up on BigSoccer) but the singer who blasted us with America the Beautiful just made me Tyf the Miserable. My son compared her voice to wailing sirens, and I did put my hands over my ears but it didn't help. We walked to and from the game, and left before the fireworks. I hope those of you who parked in the lots also managed to early, as I could see long lines already. Everyone in Town & Country was out watching the fireworks, and when we rolled into downtown Palo Alto -- still warm outdoors, lots of activity and musicians performing on street corners -- people were talking about the fireworks and asked us about the game. What a great night! P.S. The reminders about Two Gals makes me wish that we still had neg rep. You all do realize that everyone is going to google it now. Don't say you weren't warned.
I'm pretty sure that singing performance was simulcast to Guantanamo to accompany the force feeding of the midnight snack--the only possible explanation. I can't recall a more implausible Quakes/Clash victory, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was trying not to laugh hysterically at the blimp with the flag (because it had the flag) that couldn't quite "get it up". It needed fan thrust to clear the stadium. Air pressure goes down as elevation increases not accounted for with blimp volume/weight? Mad props to the controller. Clearly very experienced. It barely made it up and over the stands, had to go inbetween the scoreboard and flagposts before sinking again... surely more like a rolls canardly rather than an overeasy...
Awesome game. Let's not forget the kid who got to take the ceremonial first shot at the beginning of the game because his mom had been stationed in Afghanistan for the last year ... until she showed up and surprised him. If you saw me at my seat at that moment, it was dusty, and I was chopping onions.
Also, I reviewed the last 3 minutes, and can report to you the following highlights: 1. After Marvin juked De La Garza right onto his ass, he was smiling as he made the cross that became goal 1. 2. After goal 1, Comcast showed a fan's sign that said, "LA YOU SMELL". My 11-year-old son found this to be hilarious. 3. After the game, Comcast showed a fan with a horse head mask. Whomever you are that smuggled said mask into the stadium, I salute you, sir or ma'am.
I wouldn't know, I was getting ready to film a blimp crashing into the scoreboards and possibly killing someone. And I'm a musician!
Obviously speed to you and I differ greatly. Lenhart is slow. we have too many "target" men, wondo is slower than a turtle, gordon is slow and so is lenhart. Think of thierry henry speed, THAT is a fast forward...I think if we have a fast forward with strong shooting capabilities then we would be a threat just about anywhere on the pitch. Or we can drop the player into a CAM position so he can decimate just about anyone on the ball, target man(wondo) and the league pest(lenhart)...So far, we are just a cross the ball in the box and hope to god lenhart or wondo gets the ball. get's kind of boring. IMHO, and it's why we are in a slump.
Hopefully I can go in two years time...Considering next year is the world cup, not sure if they will call off league play, though correct me if I'm wrong.
