look at the title of the post. Of course engagement here requires comparing different players at different positions!
Sure but to say you prefer one over the other because of ones play at man united (lots of players fail at yanited) is just plain wrong.
when you express an opinion like I did, it is just an opinion. It can't be just plain wrong. You can say you don't agree!
The world is flat. nope wrong. Chicharito is only good because he plays for united...ummm no wrong. I am sure Van Persie is only good because he plays for united as well. This kind of thinking is insane.
"Scoring goals for man united when they dominate every game is not that amazing." That statement right there is flat out wrong. Many players have played at man united and failed to produce. Chicharito is not one of them. The statement above is flat out wrong.
I don't know that you can clearly say that MB is the best player in Concacaf, but you can make a very good case he is a MVP type player and even at Roma he is well loved. He is a guy who is a Captain sans armband. He supplies what is lacking to the best of his abilities which are usually enough. I think the Italians have it right when they call him the General, his ability to marshall the players, or shame them with work ethic, or encourage, or whatever is needed is what makes him so valuable.
Whether or not he's the best player is debatable, but he's certainly on that short list. Dempsey, Dos Santos, that player from Honduras whose name I cannot remember, Bryan Ruiz is pretty good... FWIW, I don't think Chicharito is in the top 5. He's a very, very, very good poacher/scorer, but he's a fairly one-dimensional forward. Not that that makes him bad or anything. Inzhagi, van Nistelrooy, et al all made great careers out of being excellent scorers in the penalty area. He's not going to dominate a game on his own, though.
At the moment Yes he's the best mid-fielder in CONCACAF. Let's see if he can keep that up for the next 2-5 years
USA: Altidore, Dempsey, Donovan, Bradley, Jones, Fabian Johnson, Cherundolo Mexico: Chicharito, Gio, Vela, Moreno, Guardado, Reyes? Mier? Panama: Baloy Honduras: Izaguirre, Palacios, Espinoza, Najar Costa Rica: Ruiz, Campbell, Oviedo Jamaica: Beckford?
Mier could potentially get there, but he's a little naive still defensively and is going to take some time, if he can get into the conversation at all. Reyes is further along than Mier no doubt and will probably be one of the top CBs in CONCACAF in the next 2-3 years. Mier does have a lot of athletic potential though, I must say.
Bradley is quality and is still improving drastically. He is certainly in the discussion for best in CONCACAF.
The answer to the question, "who is the best player in the region?" Has only one correct answer and it is numerical. DEUCE.
Dempsey or Hernandez are probably the highest paid. Hernandez probably also has the largest sponsorship.
Dempsey is in no way the best player. he is a player who has a nose for goals and works hard. michael bradley can play anywhere in the midfield and play the POSITION well. he is outstanding. we have never had a player of his mentality or ability. just an excellent player.
Dempsey is a one man wrecking crew and is the specific reason we are in good shape for qualifying. He has literally put this team on his back and was the only player scoring or creating for months until Altidore finally woke up. I understand the criticism and overlooking of Dempsey and his contributions from Spurs fans such as yourself, (and I am one as well), for his club play. I do not understand and vehemently disagree with the criticism and overlooking of Dempsey and his contributions from USMNT fans, (of which I imagine you are one), for his international play. This team and region belongs to Dempsey. He has been equal, if not superior to Donovan for the last couple years, he is the captain and best player on the team and he deserves the respect and support that Donovan got for years and that people are mistakenly falling all over themselves to give to Bradley too quickly. IMHO.
Gotta be careful with "most sponsored," because then a guy like Guillermo Ochoa's in the top 3, and on quality, he's not even in the top 20.
