Although I have doubts over everything, even in a case of agreement, you don't confirm(or even say any word on proceedings) such deals at such important stages. Find it funny that people claim they know insiders, while the actual insiders would say nothing at all to general people.

Kinda like the Torres one this is, which makes me think twice :cautious:

Apparently Cavani was to be unveiled with Mourinhos first conference.... I gave up a long time ago reading anything in the tabloids or foreign media regarding transfers.

I will believe it when it's on the CFC website.

However, I think Cavani will be ours after the Confed. Cup. The only other teams interested seemed to be City and Madrid. City would have to offload Tevez or Dzeko first and Madrid still have to wait to appoint Ancelotti.

Like others have mentioned, I would also prefer Lewa. He is younger, great at holding the ball up and linking up with the midfield players and he could be had for much much less. But that ship seems to have sailed and he does not want to go anywhere else aside from Bayern.

CDM/CM seems to be the position that many top teams need to fill but their are not many top players available. If only we had a buyback option on Matic!

    Hope it turns true.

Cavani is a bit younger, more prolific, has a better overall work-rate and is not coming off major injury like Torres was, and is an entirely different human being from another country, hemisphere and League; other than the sum being coincidently similar (but more market oriented than Torres' fee ever remotely seemed), no reason to equate the two or expect the same results, personally I think Cavani will be just what we need here and have a great Chelsea run if it comes to fruition something I never experted from Torres at the time we bought him. I do understand the Lewa might be a better value per pound, made it myself a bit, but fees set aside as irrelevant for a comparative analysis just on footballing use, right now I take Cavani by a fair bit over Lewa, though as I have said I have seen less of Lewa and Lewa is younger and improving still. And the big thing is I don't want a player who wants to be elsewhere.

Any news on a possible transfer for Luke Shaw? This is Ashley's final year and Even though Bertrand hasn't been that bad I think we still need more security at the position for the future.

some rumors early this Summer but nothing since. With Bertrand and PVA we have options as well.

I think people overlook these two. Bert, once given a good run was very solid for us. He just needs a run of matches. You saw the same thing with Vic. We are too eager to write some off. Bert needs a chance and I'm not saying he'll get it done, but he wasn't as nearly bad as many made him out to be.

Glad to see Schurrle holding up that shirt and all the i's have been dotted and t's been crossed. Love to see the announcements happening as I don't like the silent period in between the announcements. On the Cavani side I would be cautious as to any rumours because some said we would have it done about 2 months ago and some have said he has already signed a contract with Madrid. I will only believe it when I see an official club statement.

In preseason. I wouldn't worry too much about this. He was number 6 at Werder, so should Romeu worry?

don't think preseason has much impact on the players number, especially when we all knew he was gonna get loaned out last year anyways.

well, no, but that's not exactly apples to apples is it?

i would agree, especially for a youth player, or when a player has something above 20 or 30. that being said, it's still a little weird. i'm not saying it means KdeB is going to be gone, but he still had a claim to #14 if he wanted it. you can bet that there were conversations about who gets what number going on somewhere in the club, and someone made a conscious decision to let Schurrle take the number that KDeB had. so unless he was either cool with it, has his sights on another number anyway, it's just a little odd. usually players are asked to give up their numbers if they've had a claim on it. Yossi gave up 10 for Mata, Paulo gave up 20 for Deco. perhaps you just don't get that same privilage of claim if you don't have a competitive game in it. i honestly don't know, i just thought overall, it's interesting. if anything, i'd just like to know how it's all decided. either way, someone who presumably would be in direct competition for spot getting the number you had the season before could be considered as direct insult. just hoping they told him about it first.

in the end i realize i'm just reading too much into it, just interested in these kinds of things.

Schurrle is a decent get but nothing near special. Welcome, Andres.

he adds depth in an area of the field in which we hardly need any more, and the consequence of his arrival will probably be heavy on Marin's future here, which is sad. that kid hardly had the opportunity to make any kind of genuine impression before getting frozen out

that said, Schurrle is a great player and i'm sure he can contribute to the team. my hope is that he'll gel better with Mata & Hazard than Moses has so far

Think it will come down to which Schürrle you get in terms of how you'll feel about the acquisition at the end. The Schürrle of this season will be a bust. Wasteful, poor decision-making, selfish, and offers little. But if you guys can coax his form at Mainz or his first season at Leverkusen out of him, he'll do great. Direct, energetic, dynamic, versatile. There was a point, not so long ago, when Schürrle was considered the superior talent to Reus by many. Obviously, we found out he's not, but there was good reason to. Schürrle needs to shape up, though, and maybe a change of scenery at London can help him with that. As a fan of the German NT, and with a fairly vested interest in Schürrle's success, I wish him all the best at Chelsea.

As an outsider - Marin is not that good IMO.

Schurrel could turn out to be a real steal, although I'm not sure what the price tag was.

i simply didn't see enough of him to be able to say whether he's good or not

that would-be red card challenge against QPR was just unfortunate because he was desperate to make an impression, which he likely wouldn't have been so had he been given a fairer shot

anyway, i'm not broken up about Marin possibly leaving. i just feel sorry for the guy

I think it was something like 20 mil. Around his market value ATM IMO. And Marin hasn't been hailed as someone with any above-average talent since 2010. The fact that Chelsea bought him baffled me.

On a side note, has Chelsea indicated that they're open to loaning Essien again?

Because if they are we'd like to borrow him please :)
