Hard to call him a traitor since he was Cosmos first. No biggie - time to find another color guy then.
"When you're Shep Messing you've got to go wherever the bigger paycheck is. An absolute world class move." maybe now we can find a decent color commentator. In a perfect world it'd be a metro favorite.
not a big deal at all. He is just hosting a show about a team he used to play for, does not even mean he has to leave RBNY post on TV.
After listening to Paul Mariner blather on like a ********ing moron tonight, I no longer accept "club legend" as a free pass to a commentator position.
Not only will Shep do his reminiscing on Cosmos Classics, but as I bolded--Shep and JP will also be the lead broadcast team for the current NASL games for the Cosmos. I guess since the Cosmos are Div II that this is not deemed to interfere with their Red Bull MSG announcing contract? Either that or MSG is already searching for new commentators?
I guess the question for soccer fans in the NYC Metro area is will that extra amount per month be worth watching Cosmos games on tv? No one knows at this point--the fans will let the Cosmos know soon enough whether their bet on tv games has paid off. My gut feeling tells me that it will be a small niche audience. Reminds me of the situation that existed with Setanta/FSC+. I dont think this is the strategy you use if you want to make a big splash in NYC--for the sake of Cosmos fans I hope I am wrong.
at 25,000 seats they are clearly out of their minds...either way I'm still laughing... http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/06/26/cosmos-pushing-hard-for-25000-seat-stadium-near-belmont-park/
Sounds like another new york NIMBY nightmare----apparently no matter where you go there's always a group of people that dislike the idea of a sports stadium.
When Cosmos single game tickets for their home opener first went on sale I was knocked for a loop with all the online fees they were banging people with. A $15 Endline ticket went for anything from $26 to $32 each depending on your delivery preference. I'm guessing nobody is buying, because they just lowered their fees and now that same $15 ticket will run you $18 (print at home), $22 (mail), or $28 (will call window).
well maybe Shep ain't so bad after all... NEW YORK, NY– The New York Cosmos announced today that ONE World Sports (OWS), their television broadcast and national network partner has entered into a distribution agreement with SNY – the official TV home of the New York Mets and Jets. SNY – which reaches more than 13 million homes – will air all seven New York Cosmos home games for the 2013 North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall season. On Saturday, August 3rd at 7:00pm, the Cosmos will kick off their season opener on SNY against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium. The Cosmos on-air team will feature play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera and Janusz Michallik as the color analyst. SNY will also showcase five episodes of “Cosmos Classics,” the newly-minted series that looks back at some of the most memorable games in club history. “Cosmos Classics” will make its debut August 11th at 9:00pm on SNY and feature the July 16, 1976 match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The second installment of “Cosmos Classics” will air on Thursday, August 18th and feature the Barcelona-Cosmos match from May 28, 1984. The other “Cosmos Classics” will be announced at a later date. “This is another important step in the reboot of our club,” Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover said. “ONE World Sports has proven to be a great partner thus far and we know their production will be of the highest level. Now, adding SNY to our broadcast family helps us attain one of our main goals, which is reaching more of our fans in the tri-state area.” “The Cosmos have a rich and colorful history among New York area sports fans,” said Gary Morgenstern, Senior Vice President of Programming for SNY. “We are excited to be partnering with the club during the rebirth of the franchise, and look forward to providing both new and long-time fans with a comprehensive package of games from the current season, as well as classic games from the 1970’s and 80’s.” ONE World Sports will produce all of the games and the Cosmos Classics original series under the terms of the agreement. The club remains in discussion with various potential broadcast partners, including OWS, for distribution of its road games.
Very smart move on the part of the Cosmos to seek the agreement with SNY! I'm impressed. They have avoided the nice channel trap that they originallly may have found themselves in.

It is normal for people switching jobs when opportunities pop up, "traitor" no way fitted in Shep's case IMHO.
