I thought Stanko had been serving as our captain.......................

I wonder if Tab really wanted the height out there.

France's star striker is Sanogo, who's a 6'3" bruiser...........a completely different type of player than Deulofeu and Jerez.

Torre is 3-4 inches taller than Stanko if I remember correctly.

If that's not the reason, then it better be due to some sort of minor injury to Stanko.

Saying that, we've given Torre a chance for redemption here. Let's hope he rises to the occasion.

Hey, I think it's great and I've said that since the draw happened.

Let them see what the best at their age group in the world looks like.

That's operating under the bold assumption that he'll even be positioned well enough to win a header over Sanogo.

Anyone think we have a chance? The 4-1 result in the Toulon did not leave me with a ton of confidence

Sure, anything can happen in a one off match in this sport. We're rightfully heavy underdogs though.

We've got a chance..........................but France is certainly the favorite.

If we play better, and yet lose a close game, I'd still be happy here. Points would be fantastic.

It doesn't make sense to play the 4-3-3 against superior competition. I wish Tab would play two holding MF behind Gil. Move Joya up front.

The Trapp-Lopez pairing was so good in qualifying. Don't understand the reluctance to use it now. IMO, Joya is much more effective as a winger. Don't like the lineup.

Man, Tab's hubris is pretty amazing as he doubles down on Torre.

So should we just pray that Luis Gil single-handedly wins the game for us with this lineup.

Or that Villarreal plays like he's capable of and that those two jointly win us the game.

France (Pierre Mankowski): Lemina for #17 Jordan Veretout. Guessing L/R.
11 Jean Christophe Bahebeck, 9 Yaya Sanogo, 20 Florian Thauvin
6(c) Paul Pogba, 8 Geoffrey Kondogbia, 13 Mario Lemina
2 Dimitri Foulquier, 5 Samuel Umtiti, 12 Lucas Digne, 14 Mouhamadou Sarr
    1 Alphonse Areola

USA (Tab Ramos): More 4-4-2-ish, with the wings pulled back to MF.
MatchTracker shows #19 Hernandez instead of #5 O'Neill

19 Alonso Joaquin Hernandez, 10 Luis Gil
9 Mario Rodriguez, 8 Benji Joya, 6(c) Wil Trapp, 11 José Villarreal
3 Juan Pablo Ocegueda, 14 Javan Torre, 5 Shane O'Neill, 2 DeAndre Yedlin

Twellman confirms its a coaches' decision on Twitter.

This is a fireable offense if it doesn't work out, in my opinion.

I'm convinced Ramos doesn't have a fcuking clue as to what he's doing after trotting out a lineup with Torre still in the side and no Lopez or Garcia. If Torre has another howler (likely) Ramos should be fired on the spot as far as I'm concerned.

01' 0-0 USA right throw-in just above box top. Bad one-touch down box right to nobody, Umtiti(?) clears.

01' 0-0 USA left throw-in at 30m. Turnover, France control at our 30m right ... miss a long centering pass, too slow and Trapp(?) intercepts easily.

03' 0-0 US block a France through-ball from 30m, bounces down box left and over. France left corner, nothing.

04' 0-0 France ping at midfield, probe both sides. They look like they're cruising before morning coffee. Left throw-in at 27m, they lose it into touch. USA right throw-in, can't get past France's pressure but they overchallenge into touch.

Twellman notes USA is more 4-4-2-ish, with Rodriguez and Villareal dropping back to MF wings and Gil pushing higher. I like anybody named "Gil" :D
