Traditionally MSG is the channel that showed the Red Bulls. Maybe things have changed. The last time I watched them week in and week out was when they were the Metro Stars.
Ppl can support any club in the world if they want. I'm an MLS fan because I support the growing of the sport I love in my country, and when it gets big one day I'd like to think my support helped grow the game 20 years from now. But if you can't get behind an MLS team I won't fault you for that, watching premier league teams can be more exciting. One thing I can't understand is how you don't support your National team. Being an American and supporting Brazil is the ultimate bandwagon fan. How can you not support your own people? You will never feel the way Brazilians feel if they win the World Cup. That's the beauty of the World Cup, every nation gathering supporting their people. The passion of celebrating with 300 million other Americans when Donovan scored the goal heard around the world. You'll never experience what it feels to be a true fan unless you get behind your own country. The only exception would be is if your an immigrant. I have a friend who's parents are Greek, and he is first generation Greek-American, speaks it fluently and even visits Greece every summer, he has full Greek blood so he supports Greece first America second. That is ok, but to not even be from a country and support them over your own is nonsense.
I agree with that. Keep in mind that between the Americans who support other countries and the Americans oblivious to soccer there weren't "300 million other Americans" celebrating.
I follow one team and one team only. River in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The neighborhood of Nuñez. For me, as it is with many argentines, seeing my team play is like a religious experience. I've seen the unthinkable. I've seen my team winning by 2 goals playing against 9 men in the copa libertadores, and we went out. I've seen my team descend or be relegated. Yet despite suffering, i would never change colors. I've also seen my team win the 2nd division and return to the primera. that was the day i cried more than any day in my life, save the death of my grandmother. I am desperately waiting the day we are champions for the 34th time. Its been 5 years, but the day it happens it will be worth the wait. If you love football, i'd recommend an Argentine or perhaps a uruguayan side (nacional or peñarol) There is a lot of corruption and violence in south american football, but here your team sort of defines who you are. Its unlike anywhere else i've been. Going to a game in Argentina or Uruguay, or Brazil during a big match, is unlike any other sporting event you can attend. The love people have for their teams- and the hatred for the opposition- is amazing.
I'm originally from South American and I feel like the passion for the sport was passed down by my dad. Love watching games no matter which league. I enjoy watching my home team and I consider myself a Real Madrid fan. I watch their games, stay up to date with club news, support them even in difficult times, a fan behind them 100%. I was able to go to the Bernabéu a few years ago and it was amazing! completely understand why players love playing there. If you ever get a chance try to go to the UK and watch a game there you would understand a lot more about the fans/and the sport. I watched Chelsea v Arsenal at the Bridge... great match, insane atmosphere. Best of luck!
Hello All, There have been some great post talking about routing for your local team. I am a big supporter of the MLS being born and raised in the states and I love growing with the league and watching it grow in front of my eyes, although my local team has a pretty poor fan base and a weak team, going to the games and supporting them and being part of the culture really makes the Art of the Game complete.
AHH ok I guess that is a little confusing I am a Real Salt Lake fan but I live in Chicago and I do rout on the Fire. I travel to Salt Lake at least 2wice a year to cheer on RSL "If you Believe". I was more referring to my roots in Chicago. Sorry had to clarify.
The MLS is not intriguing to me however as a soccer enthusiast and fan of the game I want MLS to improve so as a league it can get stronger, generate more interest and build the sport within the United States as a game. I believe the game can only take root do to the strength of the local l domestic league and the clubs. You have to have a strong league and locally following for the sport to become big in the nation. The national team will not do that a strong league will. But Yes I do watch La Liga and EPL though mainly.
There's no right or wrong answer as to what team you should support or how passionate you should be. My favorite MLS team is D.C. United because they're the closest one to me, certainly not because they're the best.
Welcome. I am not in an MLS market. I live in San Diego, NPSL territory. But I can't be bothered with that. I do support SDSU, though. I like MLS, but something needs to change for our league to win the CONCACAF Champions League. I follow Seattle Sounders. And Man City of the EPL. I'd love to see more Eredivisie, but I'm too busy for that much soccer. Were I not, AZ would be my team.
I dont think so now after the deal to bring the Premier League to NBC Sports. NBC did not share the rights.
