Yes. I don't know who I'd rather face. If Orlando beat Chicago, then we get to laugh in their face for loosing to a 3rd division team with their starters. If Chicago advances, then we get to humiliate them ourselves. It's a tough call.
Any idea when we'd find out where that game is? Also, the thought of playing the only team we've ever beaten for a real Cup ... again in the Finals is very appealing.
FWIW, thecup.us has tweeted that they believe the USSF may not be tied to the 'bracket' after the quarters. Meaning, it seems not guaranteed the Revs will face OC or CHI. This randomization would be a great thing...and hopefully, if it's the case this year in the semis, maybe they'd think about scooting it up to the quarters. Also, there is a month between the Quarters and the Semis. They may not worry about the matchups and the hosts until after the next round. Just so people know....there got rid of the 'sealed bid' process this year for hosting...but, they created some hosting 'minimums' prior to the coin flips for that right apparently. But, they want may want to give teams time to market....so, I guess you never know, maybe they randomize the potential opponents prior to the 26th and let the teams declare their intent to host or not. In Round 3, teams interested in hosting a tournament game will need to meet minimum venue standards and pay a $12,000 hosting fee. The fee increases to $18,000 for Round 4, and then to $25,000 for the Quarterfinals. The cost for the Semifinals is $50,000 and 50 percent of ticket revenue earned over $100,000. The championship game increases to $250,000 along with 50 percent of ticket revenue above $300,000.
A 3rd-division team that has already knocked off 2 MLS clubs, including one (SKC) that wouldn't allow Orlando to play their leading scorer, Dom Dwyer. A 3rd-division club that has MLS aspirations and would like nothing better than to prove it by winning the USOC.

The cost to host the final is $250,000? Wow. Aren't the tournament winnings $250,00? Why host the final then? Win at home and you basically break even. If you lose at home you just lost the trophy and $500,000+! Not a great way to get organizations "inspired" to participate at 100%.
What if you get a situation where no team wants to/is able to host? Say Orlando is in the final. Do they have an adequate field, and deep enough pockets, to host the game?
But you get to keep the first $300K in ticket revenue, and 50% of the rest. So basically, you have to be good at selling tickets to host.
It does explain why they don't host very often. If my calculations are correct, the Revs sold 2500 tickets at $10 to the round 4 match. So they made $25K, paid an $18K hosting fee. That makes $7K in profit, minus the rental fee for Harvard.
Well lets look at this financially. Excluding the Seattle hosted finals, the last two finals have averaged around 18,000 fans. That's $450,000 at an average ticket price of $25 (which seems like it would be a low estimate). The first $300,000 in ticket revenue the club gets to keep outright. So lets look at the scenario for winning and loosing. Winning: 300,000 + 50%*150,000 + 250,000 - 250,000 = $375,000 profit (assuming concessions and labor and energy cancel out) Loosing the final: 300,000 + 50%*150,000 + 60,000 - 250,000 = $185,000 profit
Maybe they also made some concession money off of the few hundred who sneaked in through the breach in the fence or who photocopied a ticket because they didn't scan.
Equivalent in terms of an economically depressed fishing village? No, Im afraid I must inform you we are 30 miles inland. I believe the cultural equivalent of this would be Worcester's immortalization in the dialogue of Sandler's master opus Tollbooth Willie. "Welcome to Woistah, the toll's a dollah twenty-fiieve pop!" Back on topic, I think this Open Cup is the Revs manifest destiny. Im going on record they are going to take it. And that game at Harvard was everything I dreamed it would be. It kind of sucks worse now that we actually know what could be.
I love the fact SKC lost to Orlando City on Wednesday night in spite of recalling their key guys. Justice has been served!
Everything about the way the Revs played the USOC100 game was excellent!! Barnes' mistake didn't come back to haunt them and they were resilient!!
I know crossing your fingers and praying to St Anthony are regarded as superstitious, childish and ignorant...but, I'd really like to know. Just so I can add Padre Pio to the list!! =)
