We know we could have had Mila for less than DP money. We now could have DaMarcus as a DP. If we end up with neither we know our FO is ********ed.
Not so even by your own, ehem, standards of logic. Not having quality DPs in the past or present (see Puppo or Mackie) is a sign that the technical staff does not know how to use the DP slot effectively. Yet, this same staff, more or less, got Arne and Pavel here without using a DP spot. The signs that the FO technical staff are ********ed are much more varied than just any single signing that you or I desire. To me, the web article MLS in which the league states that this Club failed to sign Chupete after his coming to terms with the league is a far bigger sign of how ********ed things are....everything is lined up by all parties involved but at the crucial moment the technical staff on up to the top fail to seal the deal. That the league put into writing "The Fire didnt get it done"..... that has to be a first for MLS .... hanging a technical staff out to dry. I dont even recall in the funniest days of the Mo Johnston Experience at TFC having a MLS site article point fingers so harshly when all could see it was a train wreck.
This was covered in a different post but the inconsistency is a problem. The fact that they can or can't get a singular player isn't necessarily a problem. The fact that they haven't been able to pull together a consistently solid team in years is a problem. Beasley signing or not is a singular data point and doesn't speak much without context, some of which we'll never get.
Arne and Pardo were only good signings if you follow through. They are great veterans but by signing them, you are essentially saying, "we will make a run at winning right now." If not, then what is the point? So, I liked both player signings and they were good for us, but then the July window came and went. A guy like Forlan MIGHT have put us over the top. Instead, we let Grazzini fly the coup and we don't really replace him. So, the initial signings you mention are good only to the extent that you are truly committed to winning in THAT season.

He had some problems where he just kind of didn't return from Christmas break, but then towards the end played pretty hard for a team that was almost certain to get relegated. On the other hand, why do we need another defensive midfielder? I hope we've seen Miccoli while we scouted Rios. He's probably leaving too, and said he wants to play two more years....even at his age he probably scores 15+ goals a season in MLS
If theres rumors about Central Midfielders who are general mids or defensive minded, ignore those rumors.
Because, maybe just maybe he's an improvement to what we already have. If he can handle the position by himself (unlike Pause and Larentowicz), than we could put out an extra offensive player in the starting 11.
He probably could handle it by himself. On the other hand, since he is apparently making about 650k Euros, do we really want to use one of our DP slots an a defensive mid? I think that's a waste, I think the Pause-Alex midfield actually looked pretty solid today, and I think there are other places that could use a more urgent upgrade. Like LM, SS, or just a better two-way mid like what Alex is doing right now. It blows my mind that Rolfe continues to start games.
That also was against Columbus' B team. Yes I'd love to see us get that so called striker, but somehow it's not going to happen.
There will be no signing of Defensive Mid DPs unless its the son of Gatuso and Makelele who's in his prime which is unlikely since he'll be at Real Madrid.
They'd spend Keane money for the right DP, but they wouldn't spend enough to keep Brendan Hannan. The brain drain continues in the FO.
So was it that we didn't offer him more than a few items off the Dollar Menu? Just when I thought the FO couldn't hit a higher level of stupid they do.
He got a job with the Galaxy as Senior director of Communications and Digital. While I would rather he stay around because I love his play calling, and he is a super friendly, approachable person on twitter, I can only assume that position is a promotion from his current position "director of marketing digital & print". And since the fire already have a senior director of communications listed (though I've never heard of the guy) We couldn't just promote him here. Hard to criticize a guy for taking a promotion and probably a pay raise.
Oh don't get me wrong. I'm happy for him in the sense that this is most likely a step up. I'm annoyed with FO's continued blunders.
Was Magee performing too well for the Fire that MLS forced Hannan to move to LA as an additional consideration? I will definitely miss his play calling.
Well, someone else in Chicago has the job he's taking in LA. Sounds to me like we missed an opportunity. Who knows, maybe Brendan wants to move to LA to be closer to Fire leadership so he can work his way into the executive circle.
Boy, if this little snipit doesn't capture the brilliance of our front office, I don't know what does. Hey Lron81, it appears that there is a job tailor made for you available.
Who is the Fire's "senior director of communications"? Seems like someone we should know, since he is, after all, in charge of communications? Here he is. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, dogs and cats, I introduce you to the Chicago Fire's SENIOR Director of Communications: Dan Lobring! According to LinkedIn (since nothing is communicated about him on the Fire Website): He has only been on the job since February. He worked for rEvolution (a sports marketing and media agency firm that does not know how to spell). He seems to "tweet" a lot. He needs a shave. That's about all I know. Sad that this was never announced or communicated previously.
