He is probably making more , sitting on the bench in the UK and doesn't care if he plays or not. I mean I''m sure he wants to play and can not confirm their salaries over there but most 1st tier players , reserves and starters make more than our highest paid players do in MLS so I don't blame him for not wanting to come back. If he comes here for $300k which is what he is probably making over there anyway, along with all the free perks players get, why and for what reason would he want to come back here?
If his contract expires at the end of June, it won't make much difference how much he could make sitting on the bench vs. playing. Assuming that is the case, he becomes what we generally call a "free agent", correct? Of course, if he chooses MLS (he and his agent), don't league rules mandate that all roads go through San Jose? Even if we can't work out a deal with him and another team can, the other team will have to compensate San Jose for his rights, for whatever that might be worth (and I'm not sure that means much in reality). In the end, a player wants to play. He gambled and it didn't pay off.
Yeah but its not really a gamble. I mean everyone wants to play but the question is, would he rather not play or possibly play a reserve role in the comforts of his own home in England or would he rather be a starter in San Jose? Its an important question that know one seems to want to address.
So is he coming or not and most importantly if and when he does, will he change anything or not? I say no to either or even both.
The gamble is whether he ends up with a team. If he ends up warming the bench in the EPL, or even just somewhere in a EPL organization, one might consider it worthwhile from some viewpoint other than playing. Of course, it's more than a little difficult to believe a professional player would ever be satisfied with a situation of not playing. A lower division might work out OK too, or another country in Europe would likely be acceptable to him. All of that said, the fact still remains that in about 3 weeks, as it stands right now, he doesn't have a job. If that remains to be the situation, it is a big gamble.
An older player might think that way. I mean if he doesn't make it by the time he is 28/29 and is still warming the bench , then I'm sure he'll say the heck with it but at 25 years of age, he still might hold out a glimmer of hope that he might have an illusion of playing in the EPL. He has already stated on more than one occasion that "its no secret that he wants to be there" so I'm pretty he won't come back and even if he does, he won't change anything because the way the Quakes are playing, I don't think he will be our savior. Also, does he want to come back to this crap? I know I wouldn't and he might very well go to a lower level.
MLS doesn't like to pay transfer fees. They do it sometimes, but it's a case of the team ponying up the cash, and then eating the player's salary if he's a DP. Also, Frank might not be speaking for Frank here. He might be speaking for the organization. "My bosses, the uber overlords of the quakes, refuse to pay a transfer fee for Simon, who I really want to sign. So we can't get him. I'm off to the pub to drink a lot, while Doyle looks for the next Zura. See ya." You know, it might be that. <edit> I don't think that getting Simon would save us either. Right now, without any new additions, Frank could start Marvin and Shea at the outside mid spots, and authorize Baca, or Martinez, or Tommy at a-mid to actually attack once our wide mids pull the enemy out of shape. That's how it ought to work. Force the enemy to commit defenders all the way outside, and that should open some space inside for Baca, Martinez, Tommy, or even Croninja. But Frank doesn't want Baca and Cronin to attack, he wants two holding mids. He insists on playing four defenders and having defenders attack. How about we pull a defender or two and put on another actual attacker?! Sorry, our problems start with Frank. I think there are a long list of problems after that, but Frank is issue number one. </edit> go quakes!! we suck!! - Mark
There's also the question of his potential participation in the mix for Jamaica. I would say that he's much more likely to get the attention of the Jamaican coach playing for MLS (a league in which more than a few Jamaican Nats play) than warming a bench in England...
I saw Tommy play in pre-season and I thought he had a lot of potential. He's still a bit rough around the edges, and he's used to an even more physical league than ours, so his tendency to pick up yellow cards must be curtailed. Still, he's a big, strong, reasonably fast attacking center mid. He's not shy about getting stuck in on defense. He sees the field well, and tries to combine with others, not always successfully though. Again, he's a work in progress, but he's an option if we want more offense. Again, you don't need to quote my whole frigging post so you can respond to just one line! go quakes! Fire Frank! - Mark
F#$% no! He f#$%in' doesn't! F#$% that! Know what I'm sayin'? This is intended as a joke, so chill. go quakes! Fire Frank! - Mark
You are never going to get any sympathy on this board from people who know there is a faster alternative to "Quote" if they want to post...
Did your birdy tell you? . that would way cool... Might even help this year. (but only if we got him without the loan leash still attached)
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...er-manchester-united-youth-player-simon-dawki It would seem to me that Dawkins is the right fit type of player that could help us for 3-4 years on the trot. Here it is repeated that Dawkins is under contract with Tottenham.
According to these two sites, Dawkins contract with Tottenham expires at the end of this month. Maybe we'll see him here in July? ("He said optimistically, expecting the answer no.") http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/simon-dawkins/profil/spieler_57488.html http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/Team/professionals-profiles.page?PlayerName=Simon Dawkins
Assuming he is available on a free transfer, I have to wonder if Frank's departure make returning here less appealing to him?
Dawkins man...don't sign that contract if the Spurs offer another extension...seriously. Flap your wings and fly. MLS or League Championship or make a lot of money in China or something.
I can not find anything online about Dawkins other than he has not been signed by anyone. Anyone know what's up with him or if he is still with the Spurs?
