a coach shouldn't ask his team to fit into the coach's style of play. coach should rather devise a style of play that fits the team.

But doesn't that happen all the time? The same team, with the same players, play differently under different coaches. Take Brazil for example. Two years before this team was playing 3-5-2. After a coaching change, the same team began playing 4-4-2. What about Inter in the last two seasons? Two coaches made the same team differently. I think a coach in a position to choose, can bring in certain players and omit others, so that he can play in a style he believes will bring him success. He tries to compromise only when he is limited in choice. We were talking about high profile coaches who are in charge of teams that allow for choice. Look at Mourinho, chopping players at will so that he can play the way he wants to. A player like Cantona never got to play for France because the coach wanted to play a style in which Cantona did not fit.

but according to geneceral concensus, portugal shouldn't have played with one forward because he was out of form.

coach forced his style of play. it didn't work. and they paid for it.

by the way didnt the french team without cantona suck? i can't remember too clearly..

Postiga should have started instead of pauleta

    end of!

gomes does better as a sub

Rui costa should have been put in at half time cause it was obvious Deco was exhusted, ive never seen him play worse in my life!!..to much was asked of him in to long of a seeason..

If we had quaresma..would have pushed figo forward and put quaresma on the wings..no way they could have handled quaresma and ronaldo at the same time :D

plus rui costa in the centre with maniche, postiga and figo up front..but no..had to go wiht pauleta..and theres no point playing a d-mid againt greece...their attack was the exact same and broke throygh the same way with or w/o costinha

All this probably woudnt have worked anyways because we played like ******** in the final.

    .................................................................................

As i stated here before, Scolari is an idiot!! he made Portugal play in10 men, everygame, because of Pauletta!
If Simao, Ruy,Or Postiga started, youn would've not lost the final!! And yiu should take the citizenship away from ..Deco,the way he destroyed every ball he had!! lol

I am the one who predicted Portugal would win, coming out with a vengance for the loss from the first game. But i think, they were too elated winning over Holland that they forgot the main aim was to win a trophy!

DECO, What a Crock! After all what he did for Porto, this was abysmal.. Congrats Greece. You really were lucky, but i guess when the other team can't play to its strength, wth, you deserved it!

You cannot blame Scolari. Portugal has very good midfielders but crappy forwards. He could not have taken off a good midfielder and put in another crappy forward. He thus had to rely on the midfielders to score. They were doing so until the final. Somehow, Pauleta played well below his best. I think Scolari would have been better off by bringing in Rui Costa earlier in the final, right after conceding the goal.

lol helder postiga is going to be world class, you'll see

him and deco ran the show when porto won the uefa cup..and he had about 10 high profile cluvbs after him. Even mourninho himself said it was a bad move for postiga to go to tottenham, deco and c ronaldo also said that as well

That's ok. But Scolari had to base his decision on the present. Anybody would have chosen Pauleta to be a starter. That goal Pauleta scored against England before the Euro Cup showed his quality. But that quality was definitely lacking in the Cup itself.
