Apparently I was fooled to believe that if a player comes from a CL winning team, he must be a great player.

Ohhhh I'm called a "halfwit". Wow that hurt, like what the hell is a halfwit in the first place, lol? Like I said at Milan, leave the Italians to do the defending and yes the grunt work. But oh no I've got to be in here hearing about some Boriello guy.

A star player(as u'd like to call him) would shine, Henry didn't. Oh yes I know, it's Zidanes fault that Henry got eclipsed after being hailed as the best thing since sliced bread! Oh boy Oh boy.

We'll have to ask Zidane not to run the show and play like crap next time so that Henry can be noticed lol.

    slipnslide,

leading goal scorer with what?? in Italy 1990, Scillachi was Italy's leading goal scorer, actually the whole tournament with 6 goals(not 2 like Henry).. but no one seems to remember him anymore. All they remember is Baggio's antics. Same is the case, and to a lesser extent, with France and Henry, his performance was nothing to be remembered by. All ppl seem to talk about is the great Zidane and his impact. Now Zidane was a star, Henry was not. Stop living in denial.

yeah yeah the forever ongoing question of what a strikers job is supposed to be lol. Yeah obviously, SCORE GOALS. All strikers score goals but, what seperates the weak from the obsolete?? virtually all strikers score goals, but greatness is shown when the player is able to do it at crucial times... Henry? just did it with Arsenal --- one dimensional. Henry won those unimportant games that no one seems to remember but at the big leagues, wooosh he disappears.

The whole French team failed to score, right.. but not the whole French team was incorrectly named 'The best player in the World'. The best player in the world should help his team when the going gets tough, especially if his team is already full of talent like in France's case. He should pull out something from his Magician's hat and get his team points... once again, not Henry. E.g. Argentina vs Brazil, one of the biggest games in World football... Argentina outplayed Brazil in every ascpect of the game but Brazil one due a fantastic hat-trick from Ronaldo. Ronaldo is greatness, Henry is goodness.

i see ur smart, but u still miss the point. Israel was just an example of what teams France faced in the qualifiers. They arguably had the weakest group in Europe.. so I still stand by my point, it was no feat. Next time address the argument buddy instead of trying to correct stats as a means of sneaking out of it.

    WC - France's star: Zidane
    Euro - France's star: Zidane

I fail to see Henry's name in there. Maybe you were watching different games were Henry actually performed lol. I gave u an example of how Roque Junior is the probably the worst defender to grace the fields, nonetheless, he won a WC. Henry was not that bad, but he was not that infleuncial either. Stop giving these weak arguments man, they get boring. Just admit that Henry had minimal effect on France winning those titles.

Zidane stepped up in the past and even at the most crucial of times, for both club and country. Zidane is downhill from now and he already dazzled the world with his endeavours. Henry didn't accomplish anything to give him the right not to 'step up'. Zidane earned the right to slow his pace especially since he's in the latter stages of his career.

i personally rate Brazil as a fiercer attacking machine, doesn't stop Ronaldo from having his usual impressive numbers. I guess these excuses are only applicable in Henry's case lol.

A halfwit is someone who is feeble minded.

I think you have simply revealed your limited knowledge of Italian football in this thread.

Hmmmm, given Italy's lack of success over the past 20 years on the international stage, there's little knowledge for me to gain from Italian Caten---, oops I meant football.

Lack of success? Have you heard of the World Cup? Were you born in time to watch it in 94?

"When we don't know what to do, we just give it to Zizou and he works something out."--Bixente Lizarazu

Obviously, Zidane is the star of the French team. Most cogent moves will go through him.

What exactly is the big leagues? Euro2004 QF's? Sure. He fvcked up a header at the last of the game. What else...?

Who exactly called Henry the best player in the world? Now, in comparison, one player was voted, most recently, to be the best player in the world by FIFA. Behold, the god-like powers of Zizou. The best player in the world should help his team when the going gets tough, especially if his team is already full of talent like in France's case. He should pull out something from his Magician's hat and get his team points... not Zidane.

Next time, jackass, read my ENTIRE post before you spew sh!t from the mouth.

See top of post. It would be a shame if the best player in the world wasn't the star.

    Score more goals=Win games...Win games=Win tournament.

Henry wasn't the star of those tournaments, Zidane was. But leading a team in scoring is not just a 'minimal effect.'

The show still runs through Zidane, but are you saying that he should get picked because of his past accomplishments? This is contradictory. Henry is crap, because he didn't step up, but Zidane is a savior, because he was good once? I realise Zidane is still good, but you're argument makes no sense.

This begs the question...is Zizou past his prime? If yes, pass the torch to Henry. If no, keep it. Either way, make more use of him than they did in this tournament.

    So 2nd place means nothing?

If so, then the semifinals in WC 90 would mean nothing too.

Nor would asking the rhetorical question "do you realize how many countries would start a nuclear war to finish 2nd in the World Cup" mean much.

    So it goes.

I agree with you on the role of Zidane and ...Others,on a theoretical point of view!!
In practice though,I noticed that ..Lizzarazou was the best, the most dedicated, the most tireless player of the french squad at these Euro's!!

And if you didn;t 'pay' attention, please watch the games again, if you can!! I did! To bad he didn;t get any press!! Just my 2 cents!!

Who on earth celebrates finishing 2nd in a WC? Ok maybe if you're someone like Turkey or S.Korea, then hey fabulous. Oh great, I hope you enjoy Italy's "moral" victories, while lesser footballing nations like Denmark & Greece at least have some form of silverware in the past 2 decades.

There is a huge difference between celebrating not winning the final and saying that 2nd == doing nothing. I never asserted anything about celebrating coming in 2nd. And you asserted that Italy had done nothing during the last 20 years. Italy hasn't been perfect but they've done alright. 2nd place at a WC is not nothing.

Ok, I'm sorry. I'll be politically correct. They've "won" nothing in the past 20 years.

Funny. 20 years. Seems a strange cutoff date. How about increasing that just a teensy weensy two years?
