Manchester United legend Roy Keane spoke to presenter Adrian Chiles about his up-and-down relationship with "great" ex-boss Sir Alex Ferguson. "It's always sad to see a great manager leave the game, but I think he's made the right choice," Keane said, after admitting that he wasn't surprised to hear the news of Fergie's exit. "I was obviously very lucky to have played under him, and privileged that he brought me to the club… he generally got it right – he might have made one or two mistakes, particularly I think with me towards the end, but it takes nothing away from the fact, as I said, it was a privilege to play for him." Keane also dismissed Fergie's infamous 'hairdryer treatment' as more of a media gimmick than a reality that he lived in fear of. "This hairdryer business, it never concerned me!" http://www.itv.com/sport/football/a...as-a-privilege-to-play-for-sir-alex-ferguson/ DS was looking for Keane's farewell tribute. He had to put in that part about himself, didn't he ? Bitter.
well according to "sources" SAF made it known to Gill in February that it was probably going to happen this season so it makes sense. and it would have happened last season if QPR wouldn't have shat the bed (or we would have held against Moyes and Everton )...
Joel Glazer pretty much confirmed it that Fergie told them that he was leaving when we were still some weeks away from winning the league. I think this little bit from Fergie when the Gill news came out should have given it away - "that he believes it is time for the club to move on"
SAF decided about retiring at XMas due to Family. I guess that explains that whole reaction from either side during the CL match. Mourinho said Sir Alex called him personally. So he probably knew too.
After seeing this picture it makes me think that Ferguson's life is one of those that everyone is striving for. Having a big perfect family life, going to your job with such enjoyment and also being so successful at that. He also has health on his side and almost everyone loves him and respect him. It's like a perfect life, so to speak.
Never judge a book by its cover. That's one thing I have come to learn a lot this past year. You have no idea what is of tern hiding just beneath the surface.
Every job I got fired they called it resignation. No need to fool anyone. No one in his position retires and gets replaced overnight. The dude got fired. Come next May you will be where Everton are at now.
Didn't get a chance to post it today. I worked. But today was surreal. At some point I just realized he was gone and wasn't coming back. I'm incredibly grateful to the man. The success has been vital, but the character of the man - what he stood for - will always stand out for me as his major contribution to the team. Cantona was the catalyst on the pitch that helped us become a team that could win titles... Fergie was the catalyst off the pitch that helped us fulfill our destiny as a great club - an institution that we can be proud of and marvel at.
ESPN has learned that Ferguson, who traditionally addresses the Old Trafford crowd after the last home match of the season, had originally intended to wait until after the final whistle of Sunday's game against Swansea and then surprise United fans by saying he was making way. The Scot said he had made his decision to quit at Christmas and after his plans became public knowledge last week, said: "This club is a sieve."
Yeah, I saw that interview where he talked to the club about being a sieve. It's true. But that's life.
One of the greatest, if not the greatest to ever do it. Still can't believe he left. What a legend. Much as I hated Manchester United I always respect greatness because in life we aren't always able to witness it. Great man.
I wasn't on the past couple of weeks when the news broke but I'm here to pay my respects to one of the greatest ever managers the game has ever seen. I've always held United as an institution in high regard but for as long as I've watched football since the late 80s, this man has always been around. Going to be quite bizarre without him next season and the years to follow, he will truly be missed in the football world. Longevity, stability, motivation, titles, respect, there's nothing the man lacks. His win percentage in England and in Europe is also quite impressive: Football is losing an absolute legend of the game.
Did you want to go out as a winner? It was an issue. When Cathy and I chatted about it at Christmas, at that time, we had a five-point lead. I thought we had a great chance and I said we really need to win something. With the disappointment last year, I couldn't take a second one. I was hopeful we would win it and we did and then, in March, I let the club know.
Some quotes from the player of the year awards that is on tonight: "I slept for 10 hours on Monday night for the first time in my life!" His two favourite moments: "The day I arrived here and that famous night in Barcelona"
