So what does this mean? More coverage of the same old rumor or is there new wood on this fire?

Well, since this is a new article and he does mention the summer transfer window, i'm guessing he still is pursuing Alex Lopez the same way we pursued Boniek. We can only hope but who are we offloading?
We have way too many midfielders both defensive and offensive although with Giles playing how he has been playing is it too premature to assume teams that know him from England aren't going to call wanting their stud back??

Good point about who we would lose. I mentioned at the beginning of the season, with all of our allocation money this year it is very difficult to figure out cap space but I believe we have to be near out of money. We MAY be able to get someone like him in under the cap at a half year deal; but we are also going to create issues for next year because all the G.C. allocation will be gone and we will have all these salaries.

SO with that in mind, I am not sure who we could move to clear space that wouldn't impact the team. Cummings, nowhere as he is not healthy yet. Same with Carr. Ching, no go. Weaver, unlikely we can find a taker. Camargo maybe? Moffat maybe?

I expect it would have to be an international, right? For some reason I thought we were completely full on international slots.

With Camargo leaving the Dynamo, the only variable is time. Just on its face, it seems like we would be about maxed out but I would think the Dynamo would have left themselves some midseason lever to pull to get a little cap space, maybe someone on the roster who has a contract guarantee that expires midseason. With all of our veterans on guarantees as mandated by the CBA, its got to be one of he guys newer to mLS

I am not sure why you assume we left room? We have had to make moves to free up room at the summer window each year we have added some one. That doesn't mean we don't have room, but I would assume the opposite based on history.

For all I care we can offload Camargo with no worries, Ching is most likely leaving, Weaver -why is he even here again? That's how much with those 3 guys? 400k at least right?

Aha - the confusion. We have as few as 6 and as many as 8. We are using 6 so we could have anywhere from 0-2 available right now. We traded two away, but they likely were time specific (meaning they return to us at some point) we could just never find the dates.

I caution people at the beginning of the season, but I will mention it now. You cannot look at what has left and get to available cap room because of bonus, can room, lost allocation money (spent) etc. Here is my point, those three alone are probably around 400k (a little more) BUT the three of them would likely not even get us to compliant next year depending on how much allocation we get. Translation, we may have to jettison 400k to get to the cap next year and that isn't even paying for their replacements. It is sorta a discussion for the offseason, but it is something to keep in mind as it MAY explain summer moves this year.

Read my post again, I assume we left ourselves a midseason lever to pull. The quick and dirty math and guesstimation shows we have to be about full now, but even I don't think the FO would box themselves into a full no midseason flexibility situation again. It may be a release of someone, a tradeable player they know they can move to free up space, whatever.

OK, I wasn't sure what you meant. I am sure they also have some "ideas" but it will likely take a buyer. I cannot think of anyone we could "drop" and gain significant cap room. So while they have ideas, buyers that may have been possible a month ago may or may not be around in June.

It was my understanding that we traded Watson to free up an international spot for Driver. If that was the case then we don't have any available spots now and we still don't know if/when we get our other two back.

I think the point is: we don't know what the deal is with the last two. We could have gotten them back this week for all we know.

bah . . you know what you are talking about! The salary budget math is simply a pain in the butt is all; and we have signed enough higher dollar talent still under contract for the next two seasons, that we will begin to get tight next year in terms of making any additional moves.

Other teams are mad bro. They can't win in Houston so they have to change the rules.

Reminds me of 2005 when the Astros played with the roof closed to win games and then the League made them open the roof for World Series and part of playoffs. That's the only reason we got swept and lost. The roof and league interference.

whatever. if 70 is good enough for FIFA, its good enough for us. as if an extra 5 yards will improve the technical ability of your typical MLS player. doesn't Garber have better things to do? ;)

btw, anyone notice a Galaxy fan posted this? :ROFLMAO:

I'd go along with that just as long as MLS adopts a rule that if a home team experiences two or more power outages during a playoff match, the home team automatically forfeits the game.

I hope they widen it-sideline seats would be ridiculously close to the pitch. But it could make "spilling" your beer on an opposing player a lot more common. Offical Disclaimer**-Metroag does not condone sloppiness with beer, especially at $10 for a Shocktop.
