I also dislike these money grabs, they could have at least tried to pretend this was more then a money grab by adding a Mexican or Brazilian team to this "International Cup"
meh it is what it is and id rather them get as much money as we can get out of this than pretend its something it isn't. hopefully our league form is fantastic and we use it to test our reserves/youth
This is part of how we pay our DPs and eventually raise the salary cap... so it's evil. But a necessary evil, I'm afraid...
i think the galaxy are more than rich enough now so i wonder where all this money goes honestly with the salary cap and no major changes happening in our youth system or HDC...
Well reports have us paying Lampard 6 mil a year, so this helps pay for it. I like the fact that it puts us alongside all these other big names as THE mls team. Say Ronaldo wants to make a move splash in 3 years, where's he going other than here? I mostly don't mind it because the players love it. They get to be on the field with guys they look up to, so it's a fun thing for them. For the marginal guy who busts their ass for us, it's one of the best days of their professional lives, so I choose to be happy for them to live out their dreams.
From Adam Serano: LAGalaxyInsider Could be a throw away or a joke, but when asked about GICC today Bruce Arena said that "we might play Tijuana at some point." #lagalaxy 4/17/13 4:53 PM
“It is an honor for the Galaxy to be able to represent Major League Soccer against some of the world’s top clubs in the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup. Our fans are accustomed to seeing their team take on the world’s elite club teams in summer friendlies and we are excited to be able to continue that tradition here in the Southern California as well as in other cities throughout the United States.” Galaxy President Chris Klein lagalaxy.com www.internationalchampionscup.com
Actually, the thing I most don't like about these types of games is that the Galaxy stars also play half hearted and then they put their full-on reserve team in for a half. Result can often be ugly. The MLS All-star game is a great exception, where I think both teams really go for it (probably MLS just a little more so), and it has some meaning. Hopefully someday a summer champions type tournament would take on some seriousness, but you have to start somewhere.
Geez, you're cynical. I was just about to ask "why not bring in the Mexican champions instead of 2 Italian or English teams. It think that would only help.
well if the rumor is true and Galaxy upped their offer to Lampard from $4 mil to extra 2 mil to total of $6mil......this is the way to pay for it I guess.......
for the record, Galatasaray officialy will gonna open theyr first Football Academy in USA on 19 MAY 2013 ...... They have huge hope to find US talented kids to join yellow and red jersey uniform at this new galatasaray soccer school. I bet ,they will do theyr best to join this tournament to make theyr voice in the commercial way for theyr new soccer scholl in US..... cheers,
I doubt Galatasaray would have a huge impact attracting American kids, Mexican club soccer schools would have much more pull than a Turkish club.
Is there a "little Istanbul" in LA or Frisco? I have no idea, but there is just about everything else. Anyone know?
I seem to remember being a big community in upstate New York. I don't think it's particularly large though, I think a Bayern sister school would have more pull in certain parts of the country.
I heard they do every year a Galatasaray DAY walks with good number of fanbase at US Galatasaray group. They have a official local build,.. and every year Galatasaray club chairman and club officials visit theyr special Galatasaray night events. GS Club careing and following this prospect closely. Probably Galatasaray gets request or invite from US GS fanbase local groups. Or, its a Galatasaray club new visional plan build ups schedule for opening new academy across to the world. They recently(2 years ago since) open a 2 Academy in Australia . Already They have few in Germany, UK, North Cyprus, etc... ps: just hope to see this become real someday, Who knows, maybe some day in the future Galatasaray can get help/support from theyr former cool player Brad in the US Galatasaray Soccer Academy.
I will learn correct official adress from Galatasaray officials . But, I heard from the news site, they say New Jersey or around. Cheers.
Thanks. So they are going East Coast. That is really interesting. Frankly, from a selfish Galaxy point of view this is actually good news. Our academy draws essentially from Southern California, so we will not be competing with Galatasaray for the same kids.
