He and Lisi are both listed as "OUT" for tonight's game, while it looks like Vaca will play. Does anyone know how long Flores and Lisi will be gimpy?

Heard he is undergoing ankle surgery this week and will be out 3 months!!!! Hope this is wrong as he makes our midfield complete when he plays. Without him we don't win balls.

If thats the case that really sucks. I hope he does not leave after the season. He is young and talented and would have a future in the metros midfield for years

He must have sprained that ankle pretty badly. I thought ankle sprains were only a 2-4 week injury. A few days on crutches and a week or two on an aircast.

He was walking with crutches last night. Really cool to see him on sideline and not else where. Looks like a Metro for sure.

i also recall reading somewhere it'd be 3-4 months.... Bad loss...I would have liked Vaca and/or Gilberto to step up by competing with each other for the right mid spot....

When Rey scored last night, he ran with big smile and open arms to Gilberto, of all people, to celeberate his goal, what was that all about?

, N.J. (AP) -- MetroStars midfielder Gilberto Flores had surgery on a ruptured ankle tendon and could miss the remainder of the season.

The MetroStars said Friday that he will be out three to four months. The regular season ends Oct. 17.

He was hurt June 26 in a 2-1 loss at New England following a tackle and underwent surgery Thursday night.

Should have stated ".....following a nasty tackle by Clint Dempsey......"

it wasn't a tackle, it was a clip with at least one foot driving the cleat into his ankle from behind and to the left. it happened because gilberto dusted dempsey and was about to send in a center from the right corner.

oh yeah, just wanted to say this ********in' sucks.

    anyone else catch this nugget?
Brazilian Birthday Boy on the Mend: MetroStars midfielder Gilberto will be celebrating his 21st birthday on July 5th (Monday). Unfortunately for the Brazilian, he will be on the sidelines for four to five months, suffering a ruptured torn posterior tibial tendon in his left ankle in last Saturday's game against the New England Revolution.

This is real bad news as the Metros need someone in midfield to step up and fight for the ball. Without Kamakazee flores this becomes a real challange. Maybe Rico steps up or maybe we get another TI on the team with similar skills as Flores for loose balls. Vaca just does not cut it for me.

I would like to see us drop T Bone and pick up and English or Scottish midfielder who feels his life is dependant on getting to balls and plays tough. Right now we get abused by rough players every game as our S American players are nice skilled and creative but we relaly need size and aggresiveness somewhere on this field or we will not be able to compete with any tough MLS teams no mattter how skilless they are.

What I found from Gilberto is beside his fluid ball skill, he shows genuine fun loving, almost naive feeling, his tempo is even, he plays with ease and confidence. He made football looked easy, we rarely see such quality display from a 21 yrs old in MLS.

today will show what bradley does to readjust the team to life without Gilberto on the field. hopefully lisi and woly step up their games to how they were playing not so long ago.

I have followed Dempsey, and i think he is a great player, and a leading candidate for rookie of the year...Have followed his progress (as much as i can anyway-hey, I'm also a USMNT fan after all) and i think he is doing quite well for himself....He plays his heart out and the two diving headers i recall him scoring were the result of will, hustle, and fearlessness.....HIs goal vs. Metros was also hustle, combined with nice skills to beat Walker.... BUt the problem with relying too much on hustle (and perhaps being so young) is that hustle can border too easily on recklessness, which is what i believe happened when he hurt Gilberto... I do recall the play, even if i could not recall it was Dempsey, but i recall how he had no claim whatsoever to the ball...Quite frankly, these are the types of fouls that ought to be punished more harshly, if not by the ref on the field, by the reviewing board (or whatever MLS' version of it is called)....So if i call him an idiot, it is for that reckless foul....Overall i think he is a capable player, unlike Franchino, who truly IS a hopeless thug.... Hopefully Dempsey learns how to curb "his enthusiasm" so to speak....It's already cost the Metros dearly.... ANd league officials also ought to be more observant on this sort of incidents, which should not be let go so easily.....
