Quit with the hokey simulations on slight contact and people will stop having reason to comment on them. It's THAT simple.

When your keeper is hopping on one foot and acting like he'd been shot in the butt, do you really think that people aren't rolling their eyes all over the world? You are correct in how Portugal controlled the match and should have won the game by a clear 3 or 4 goals.

If you truly want a reputation for not resorting to this sort of gamesmanship, stop doing it. Stand tall and make an example of not engaging in this play.

When Rivaldo performed his simulation in the World Cup match against Turkey, he was universally scorned and it reflected badly on the whole Brazil team and nation. People acknowledged that Brazil was the best team in the tournament, but all the talk was about Rivaldo's pettiness. Maybe it didn't overshadow the team's achievement completely, but it definitely took the shine off of a truly magnificent team's performance in the biggest tournament in the world - and that's the price you pay for doing that stuff.

I saw it again on Eurosport this morning, van Nistelrooy did catch Ricardo with his studs first on his calf and then on his achilles. Ricardo didn't need to over-react and flop to the ground twice but he was definately caught. No question. The Eurosport's commentators then spent the rest of that segment talking about how van Nistelrooy was a master of the "dark arts" and how he shouldn't be suprised if a defender dishes out the similar treatment on him in the future.

Question is, what was Ruud doing with his leg?

I don't think there was enough contact to say that he "caught" Ricardo with his studs. It was near a glancing bit of contact and not anywhere close to the meal Ricardo tried to make of it... did they show Ricardo hopping around as if he'd been shot too?

And have you ever seen a keeper hurt himself three times in a row when making a routine save?

that is so frustrating!! the keepers arent supposed to be touched right? BUT COME ON!! they are footballers, (alledgedly).. the play acting to get players cards just has to stop.. i am amazed THEY dont get yellow's for simulation.. i have a hard time remembering a ref card a keeper for simulation... not once...
    exactly right motterman~

If ruud is suspended by uefa for his post game comments on the ref, would any possible suspension keep him out of Manchester United's Uefa Champions League qualifying matches

In the replay they had, they stopped immediately before any contact was made then played it in slow motion and you can clearly see ruud's studs going into Ricardo's calf in a "slight" racking motion, then he seems to look for the keeper's achilles and you see that Ricardo's socks get caught in his studs for a short period as van Nistelrooy moves his legs to land properly. I already said Ricardo made a meal of the incident but the fact remains van Nistelrooy went to have a sly dig at him & the keeper made the most of it.

Brilliant, the original poster complains about the accusations of Portugal being divers and lousy ones at that, yet he cites a great example of diving and complaining.

Just watch the replay, sure RVN stuck his foot out and knocked Ricardo in the ass but Ricardo went down grabbing his knee. It was hilarious, what a joke.

Oh well, as much as I hate Portugal they did play much better than Holland yesterday and deserved the win, I just hope whoever wins this Czech-Greece game will expose them for the babies they are. Deco is the biggest dissapointment IMO, for all he did for Porto he's just been diving and crying all tourney.

This tournament, he's been Joe Cole II.

But as mediocre as Deco has been, Seedorf made me appreciate Deco's modest contributions. I'm a U.S. National Team fan so I've seen some wretched center mid performances in my time, but Seedorf's vs. Portugal won the prize. Even an American would get benched for a showing like that. It is not to Advocaat's credit that he let Seedorf finish the game.

Go watch the replay. You're so blinded by your hate towards the portuguese that you can't even watch it correctly. The replay has been shown hundreds of times here in Portugal and you clearly see the studs going to the calf (you saw him going hitting Ricardo in the ass?!?!?!? what game was that? Sporting CP 3 - Man Utd 0 ?) and then sliding down until the studs hit Ricardo's socks.

Now repeat after me : calf -) socks . What's in between? Knee. But who cares if you didn't see it, you're probably going to reply something completely wild and false anyway.

As for Deco, Deco told me to tell you he's very dissapointed in you as well.

I don't get it. You guys criticize Portugal for always showing a lack of respect for the game because they dive, cheat, bla bla bla but when someone else plays Portugal and actually shows that kind of disrespect for the game as RvN showed, you say that "nah, he hit Ricardo with his studs but Ricardo was faking it". Who cares if RvN tried and hit a fellow soccer player with his studs without even thinking of getting to the ball, yeah who cares? Ricardo! He's the evil one! Someone hit him and deserved a red card for it but all he could do was hop around like he's been shot.

I feel sorry for such irrational hatred.

Man, I feel the same way. People are gonna talk no matter what.. and for some reason right now it's all about Portugal.. that's fine though cause we know they are the true champions of this and are now going to beat Greece. End it like we started it, 'cept Portugal wins 2-1. But yeah, I do understand your point of view, that's why I like to stick up for My Team Portugal as much as possible and not let anybody try to diss them... so far, so good.

repeat after me, tool, Ricardo makes a meal of every "knock" he gets, quit your bitching, you're in the final against Greece of all teams and you guys are still complaining about RVN.

And you're nowhere near the final and are still complaining about Ricardo. This ain't your "war"! Go and defend your own nation. You're neither Dutch nor Portuguese. I'm starting to wonder if you're even european! So why you're having that temper temper beats me.

EDIT: So, you love Dallas whatever (never heard of it, sorry), Man Utd, England, Holland AND Iran? Any ultra would laugh in your face if they knew you supported so many teams and other national teams like you do. That's just silly.

The first player that earned himself a diving-reputation was actually Francis Lee of England (late-60s/early-70s).

hilarious. I defend RVN because I'm both a Manchester United supporter and a Holland supporter. For your information, I'm American, I live in Dallas, we have a local team called the Burn, sure they haven't been around for longer than 9 years but thats the frustration we have supporting football in a country that doesn't care for it. I'm half English and half Persian, therefore I support England and Iran. I support the Dutch as sort of a 2nd European team because I've always liked the way they played, as did my father. Any more questions?

I'm half brazilian half portuguese, live in Lisbon and support Benfica. Lived in the UK, Germany and Portugal but I only support Portugal. Could care less for any other teams. That's what ultras do. You should look into what being an ultra is all about and you will understand why I can't understand you supporting so many teams. It's taking soccer to the next level.

STFU yank. (yes he insulted my country) Go back to your baseball forum because you don't know our game. Football which you call soccer, is our (Europeans) game.

It's annoying when the americans think they know football better than us europeans.

What is btwn the Calf and Sock??? The knee??? What replay were you shown??? The knee sits above the sock on most players. There is hardly a player out there that wears his socks at or above his knees and the only 2 that come to mind are Henry of Arsenal and Barthez of Marsaille.

Get your story straight. Your obviously going to defend Portugal since your a Portugal fan! Your word versus every other non Portugal fan's word. Just like it's my word when it comes to France vs every other France hatter's word. It's natural to defend your team.

Secondly, I taped the match, on DVD, on HDTV, on 50inch Flat Screen TV, and have the absoulute best angle to watch it in 3 different slow motions. RVN "clipped" Ricardo on the side of his shorts, lower part. Not even enough to actually touch him. His foot on the come down never touched his Calf either. RVN had a chance at winning the ball, that is why he went for it. He was on a run.... Ricardo should have been carded for Simulation!!!!

Fact is, it was the end of the match and Ricardo was wasting time like he did on several other saves and in several other Portugal matches. He should be banned from playing the Final due to poor Sportsmenship!

ok I know what you mean, and maybe I came across the wrong way. I do support all those teams, but when it all boils down to it, I'm a die hard for Dallas and England. If England and the US were to meet in the WC final (which they should of last WC ;)) I would go for England. So if thats what your getting at then yea.

RvN touched Ricardo's left leg yet Ricardo grabbed his right knee. Tell me how that isn't an example of pathetic cheating.

Excuse me sir or madam, please forgive my naivete, being a 'big soccer moderator' means that you are part of the forum's site crew and is your 'job' to make sure that
people of all nations don't get out of hand and go overboard with personal and ethnic background attacks, and keep it as much as they can about soocer??
Well then, sir , madam, i might say you are not doing a very good job because you allow ....yourself to post crap like that!

Ooppsss, I didn;t mean to use that word, please do not report me!!
Oh, and to us ,the uninitiated into that 'wonderfull' german language that can give you a perenial sore throat, what is that text at the bottom of every post of yours means?

It is ,by any chance, a slogan from one of ..Hitler's speaches, because i noticed from your posts that you are a big fan of his!!
And again, sir or..madam, please forgive my novice curiosity, i just like to know how this works!!
And not only me , but maybe some of those 'portuguese mongoloids', who all of a sudden found out that their orrigin comes from...Mongolia and not from..Rome!
    I imagine their utter disappointment!!

You must be very inspirational to someone!!
