True I would thinking Reyes/Herrera should be in there, but Gio also had some sort of cramp and or leg injury that forced a sub. Boom two forced subs. Yeah team looked gassed towards the end due to that heat as it played a major factor. La H played well enough to fight back, but I think that PK was bit fluky. Maybe a some .gif will change my mind but either way Maza looking replaceable and I says this as an Americanista watching him week in week out. This type of defending is the norm from him.

Yea but Bravo had already gone into the game, and Gio was more of a supporting striker, why add Jimenez an all out striker for a floating Attacking MID with a dwindling lead in danger?? Sub Gio out for Reyes/Herrera, tell them to defend and keep possession and call it a day. Gio went out after he flubbed to the ground from a challenge.. he reminded me of flubber,, he kinda let his body just go.. it was amusing lol.

PK was fluky from our angle, but the Ref is 44 yrs old.. hostile crowd.. was already sketchy from the way he's handled the game, Someone should've told Maza to not challenge him in the box, but to defend and take his angle away to try and deflect a shot or block a pass across the face of goal, plus if Costly was already going down, why even throw in a tackle???

Mexico will be fine, slow start guys we get it , its not how you start but how you finish. Tuesday win agianst the Nads at home will kick start the momentum for us through the rest of the hex, we wont lose one game this round, and la neta i fully expect our team to mesh well during the confed cup, that by the time we go into columbus we can burn down the house up there... We do need some changes to happen fast though starting on Tuesday . I want to see Reyes play instea of maza from now on..what reyes gives up in pounds he gains in his speed, and is good going up top since hes 6'3 or 6'4 i dont remember.

Jimenz > bravo ..please chepo dont play bravo anymore.... jimez ran like crazy yesterday and stopped a honduras counter attack through his sacrifice. bravo ni corrio.

Salcido needs to retire , i like the guy but man..we need fresh legs in that part of the field, herrera should help us out there but im really hoping that jonathan gets into playing shape soon, the times ive seen him play he has great link up play with the forwards and attaking mids, more so than what we have now.

Vela needs to grow some balls and grow up, hes doing great and one of la ligas top players now so he has nothing to prove anymore, he would be a huge upgrade instead of aquino imo. Aquino will be a great sub for both vela and guardado... also i really like the kid from moterrey tecate what ever his name is he needs more playing time at his club.

I for one am not worried at all. We have 5 teams we play home and away. That gives enough games to catch up its not like we havent been through this before. I would like to blow the competition out of the water and qualify as soon as possible but its just not gonna happen like that.

Chepo did make some mistakes and the heat did not help anyone. They did however play a lot better against Honduras then they did against Jamaica and thats a step in the right direction. A point ins San Pedro Sula is not bad at all considering the hostile atmosphere and history of us not getting much against the Catrachos at there home.

    Just one thing though

I hope Diego starts and bosses so that he can replace Maza once and for all.

I hope so too but Chepo isn't getting to replace the current captain just like that. For ******** sakes he didn't even punish him for giving the finger to the Mexican "fans". Imagine it was Vela? He probably would have banned him for the NT for a year lol.

Let me ask this, going into this match, would a tie have been a bad result?

I know that everyone is disappointed with giving up a 2-0 lead, but there are still plenty of games left and the team did look better in this game than against Jamaica at home. I was happy to see the 4-2-3-1. This is the formation that we need to stick with.

Unfortunately, we don't have an adequate right attacking player and our defensive mids need to do a better job of controlling the midfield. For all the criticism that Torrado and Castro received, they did a pretty decent job of controlling the center of the pitch (who remembers the 2011 Gold Cup final? that entire tournament for that matter?). We also don't have the great depth that many on here claim that we have. We have promising players with lots of potential, but many of them are not quite ready to contribute to the national team. And having to sub in a player like Bravo is just embarrassing and proof that we don't have adequate depth yet.

I thinks were getting there with the depth part, up front we have some young guys doing good things in the league...i do believe that Jimenez will be a player that can contribute to the national team this cycle and for years to come. liga mx clubs just need to develop the young forwards we have now. For the confed cup i belive our 9's will be Cheecha, Jimenez, oribe, ?????

Spot on with everything except Chepo did make 3 changes... Herrera came on for Aquino (which I think was the right sub)... the criticism is having Bravo on instead of someone with more midfield presence like Reyna to retain the 4-5-1 / 4-2-3-1

Guys it is time to stop whining about Salcido or Zavala... Chepo is a smart guy.. those two will not be starting in Brazil... on the flipside if Chepo throws in Chaton, Herrera and/or Gullit and they don't perform you risk "losing" the players... they have to be transitioned in... with luck we will have a new Central Midfield before the end of the Hex... but it is has to happen slowly.

One more thing to note... I think Chepo made the following conclusions:

    1) Bravo did not work... the reason Chepo opted for Jimenez instead of Reyna is that he realized that Bravo had no presence up top.

    2) In the presser he correctly diagnosed that Mexico lacked possession (i.e., the Midfield failed)... he knows the problem... I think if CH14 & GIO did not get injured we would have seen Reyna, Herrera & Molina as the subs.

The Gold Cup and Confeds could not come at a better time.

Maza missing the next game could not have come at a better time

I remember when Chepo was still starting Sinha over Gio and then Sinha got hurt, Gio started and we never heard from Sinha again.

Reyes will start on Tues and hopefully puts on a performance so Chepo realizes this kid is ready to be a starter

I hate to be that guy, but the heat was the reason why Chepo took out Gio and Cheech. Cheech was cramping bad.. so no point in risking your most clinical player on your team with a 2-0 lead, and it also took a huge toll on Gio who limped off, but as the game wore on.. saw him stay on the ground for longer periods of time, kinda as if he just wanted to lay down and take a breather, but then again you were still up 2-0.

I thought all coaches knew that its almost a cardinal sin to make a sub on a corner. Let Honduras take the corner.. they score.. okay thats fine, still up 2-1.. NOW lets take Gio off for a defensive player and let Bravo operate as the lone forward with Aquino and Guardado out wide, let Zavala play as a Box-to-Box while Salcido stays back as the player infront of the 5 man front to link a counter attacking play with the attack and let one of the three Central CBs in a 5-4-1 slot into that void Salcido would fill as he's anchoring a play behind a Mexican counter which basically switches to a 4-5-1 as they attack.

anywho, Chepo poor decision making on his part.

Watching the highlights I still can't believe that the ref bought the penalty. He fakes the fall before Maza tries to sweep him, and Maza just had to keep his leg in and he would have been fine.

Should have gave Guardado the penalty if he called the other.

Seems that Salcido is always a scape goat - just like Hernandez has a shit game and cant hold up the ball with most of MU fans but when you actual watch the game theyre not as bad.

Salcido had that great cross and assist for the second goal - yet no one mentioned that.

Salcido had good game actually we just should of kept it together in the last 15 min but he still needs to be fazed out

Salcido had a good game. Zavala, not so much.

The thing is....even when Salcido plays well, his weaknesses are constantly exposed.

1v1 always getting smoked, always trailing the play, doesn't really offer much cover to the back four.

When Zavala and Salcido are focused and minimize their mistakes they offer a lot to the team as a tandem.

.....but how often has that happened?

On the Chich sub... I think he made a mistake with personnel not tactics... i.e, I agree with his position for position.... but then Bravo did not touch a single ball... and he realized he needed Jimenez up there... Chepo's mistake was two fold:

    1) Taking Jimenez and then being afraid to sub him in for CH14... if you don't trust someone to play then don't call him into a WCQ

    2) Selecting Bravo (who has never really proven to be NT caliber anyway) without any cohesion with the current squad etc.,

Has Diego ever played on the right side of the box? I haven't seen him do so with U-20, Olympics or America... he is Moreno's sub... Ayala is Maza's sub.... its okay he should perform better than Maza has been.

I think you give him way too much credit. It's like saying 'guys, no need to worry, I know Bofo got picked over Jona, but there's no way he'll play in the WC!'

Right now Chepo is basically banging his head against a brick wall using the same exact tactics over and over despite results clearly showing that they aren't working. 4-2-3-1 worked great in essence, but he didn't realize that the midfield was a glaring weakness.

He has a terrible track record with subs, and I can't not even once think of a game where he changed the outcome due to in game adjustments and great subs. It just doesn't seem to be his MO. What will need to happen is for him to get the boot, because the way this team is going, we'll qualify de panzaso and will do jack shit in the Confed.

I'd love to see what Tena can do with the senior squad. He seemed to have the right idea and attitude for the Olympic squad... let him take the reigns and see what he can do. Doubt he can do worse than Chepo.
