Since Vela isn't accepting call ups, scapegoat number two is Memo. It's somewhere in the spazzo rule book.
1 hour later and i am more at ease Chepo seems to have learned from the previous games that the 4-4-2 w/ 2 strikers up top does not work which is why he came out with a 4-2-3-1 formation we played a good 1st half where our backline was spot on and had some excellent breakaways Aquino, Guardado, & Chicharo looked the most dangerous. Gio had some bright spots, but the Hondurans kept hacking away at him and was never really able to do much. the biggest problem were our holding mids. Zavala & Salcido didn't do shit! their job is to recover and put the pressure on the opposing, and sadly i think Aquino did a better job doing that than those two. everything was going our way up until Gio & Chicharo necessary subs. Chepo did screw up at least one of those subs because instead of throwing in 2 strikers, one of those players needed to be someone that could hold the ball - Reyna, Herrera, or Gullit. Maza screwed up big time and i am happy he will miss the next game. hopefully Reyes or Ayala, both the most probable choices to take Maza's place, will have a lights out performance and permanently remove Maza from that position. same goes with Salcido, but sadly i think he will start again. but hey, at least he didn't do his stupid long range shots today which was rather surprising. this tie does feel like a loss, but it is not the end of the world. we win a Tuesday and we are back in business in a good position heading forward to our next set of games.
The problem is his subs were to what seemed like a 4-4-2, so it doesn't seem like he's quite done forcing the NT to that formation...
My damn boss decided to sit next to me the second half so I couldn't watch the rest of the game. Now, it sounds like Gio and Chich were subbed out due to knocks. Too bad. Hopefully they'll be fine for the next game. I know that there is questions as to Chepo's substitution selection. I think after this passes a little bit you guys will realize that this was a positive result on a field we haven't won in in about 60 years. I'm happy to get a point back even though it feels like a loss. Sure 3 would have been better but I'll take this point. A win at Azteca puts us in a good spot. Plus we don't know what happens with the other teams. I'm still guessing we get more road points. Get it out of your system now because this is a positive.
Wtf, why all the blame on Maza. Moreno gifted that corner and meza got owned against costly that lead to that dubious call. No more salcido in the mid and aquino keep trying to take on everybody, but always lost the ball. Everytime memo did a goal kick he gifted it to the Hondurenos.
So because Moreno conceded the corner, he's at fault because Maza decided to let Costly have a point blank header on the corner? Nice logic.
The problem is that we lost two points at home last game. So 3 points today would have eased the pressure on Tuesday against the US. Now We have to win on Tuesday whereas a tie would of been ok if we would have gotten the 3 points today.
i put all the blame on chepo. shouldve brought on herrera and/or pena once the team went 2-0 up. they wouldve gained control of the midfield and couldve passed it to death
My prediction is slowly coming to fruition, unfortunately. I predicted 1 point in these two games and we are at 1 point after 1 game. I thought we were going to lose today, then when we were up I got cocky and was like " we got this " ....not so fast. What a crap game, Mexico overall did well I thought and should have won but with the refs help, and subbing a player while defending a corner (big no no), we gave away 2 points. After the US beats CR tonight, they will come into Azteca riding high. I feel like we should have won today, and even though we tied, this feels like a loss. Disappointed.
Which part of his post is an issue for you? I mean, looking at your previous post regarding the game, you liked the substitutions by Chepo. I think you are in the minority in that one. You fail to account that adding 2 forwards in this stage of the game provided nothing. Everyone was already gassed and never really had possession in the first place. Might as well help the guys in the middle, retain some control there and keep the 2-0 advatange. Chepo had the right idea in subbing in Herrera but it was FAR TOO LATE to make that sub effective. Personally, I thought Chepo had a good game plan and his team executed for the majority part of the game. It was too bad he completely nullified it by subbing in the wrong players and other things that was mentioned in this thread.
