Calender year record is a joke, although its still fun the media mention it. Football season starts mid year and ended mid year and Messi record for that one is 73 goals and now he's already at 53. Good luck to CR.
Feel bad for Adriano but he is having too many physical problems since the winter period started. It's a big shame because I felt he might be a good solution to our CB problem if Pique or Mascherano get suspended in the CL games against PSG. But hopefully he'll be back with the team soon enough. Maybe he'll sign that new contract during this recovery time and assure his future at the club. He deserves one, he's been a fantastic squad signing for Barca and as long as the medical staff and physios figure out a way to stop all these problems he has, he'll be even more useful for us over time. So that's Puyol and Adriano both out for 5 to 6 weeks. Both will miss the PSG games and at least 3-5 Liga matches, but have good hope of coming back in time for the semifinals if we make it. It's definetly a good time to let Montoya and Bartra get some game time because they'll gain experience and more game time which could prove useful as we head into the final stretch of the season. Hopefully we get no more injury problems over the international break with the likes of Xavi, Villa, and Alexis for example who have been picking up some heavy knocks in recent games like today's. But most important of all, we'll have Tito starting with the game in Galicia. That is a big boost for the team and let's hope he can get back to where he left off as we'll need it.
Love how Marca counts 90 goals for Messi. Wasn't it 91? Not that I care, but its cute how Marca pretends it doesn't care yet at the same time seems to care enough to alter the numbers and discuss CR7's pursuit to break the record.
In all fairness, that's right after he messed up that golden chance and tried to scramble to get the shot off. I knew right away that was going to make it into a GIF. Yep I've just buzz killed it
New rule: if you're the third or fourth guy surrounding Messi, head to the goal post and defend it. You might have a better chance at being helpful.
So with Puyol and Xavi injured and Valdes suspended we had Iniesta as captain and, when he was subbed off Messi was captain. I knew he was fifth captain but never realized that yesterday was the very first time he was captain for us in a Liga game:
Official: Eric Abidal, recovering after transplant, is taking part in a friendly of Barcelona B against French second division club Istres
5 May 2012 La Liga, Jornada 20 (this was the make-up round that was supposed to be played in late January but was pushed back because of the strike that postponed the start of the season.) FCB 4-1 Malaga Valdes and Xavi did not start. Puyol wears armband. 67' Puyol subbed off, hands armband to Iniesta 75' Iniesta subbed off... Messi also scored a hattrick in that match.
Just one victim left for Leo Messi www.fcbarcelona.cat 03/19/201313:30 The Argentinian could become only the second player ever to score against every other team in the competition if he finds the net in Barça’s next game against Celta He would also become the first player to score in 19 consecutive matches, in other words against every team in the league Celta the only remaining victim The last time Messi failed to score in a Liga encounter was at the Camp Nou against Celta, the only team that the Barça star has not scored against this term. All the other 18 first division teams have seen the Argentinian beat their defence at least once. ---------------- I hope he scores AND what are the chances of him keep scoring until the end of the season in La Liga? I am hoping Messi wins the WPOTY for the 5th time otherwise we might see this
Abidal back in action! So nice to see. Hopefully he can make a comeback at the Camp Nou soon. That's going to be magical!
The thing is, if Barca gets past PSG, Messi probably won't start in some of these remaining La Liga games.
Lol That said, and as far as Messi's goal amount is concerned, I'm more interested in whether he can break the 50 liga goals mark. Difficult, but possible.
I wonder if Messi will break his 73 goals in a season record. He already has 55 now and assuming he's not going to play all games, there's 10-12 matches for him to play at very least, depend on our CL progress. I'm quite sure there will be another 3-4 goals in a game from him in the remaining games.
He'll need several 2-3 goal games to beef up the tally. He'll probably beat his own La Liga scoring record though.
He needs 9 brace to reached 73 goals, so 7 brace + few goals in other games might enough. If he has 2 hattricks then it might be even easier. For now I assume that we will beat PSG, or even if not he will grab some goals over the 2 legs.
