Nice article - nice that Breda had it in English as well.

    Ja.

Stewart is such a class act. He's so understated. At first, after WC, I thought Cladio wearing the flag might be the most lasting image for me, but instead, it's become the one of Stewart comforting Donovan.

Agreed. His only problem is that he may join the Galaxy next year.

Ya, I can't wait to see Earnie playing in teh MLS, just not for LA. Maybe they'll have to give up Ruiz to NY to get him! =-)

Is this true? If it is, just more proof of what a farce MLS' allocation policies are.

If ever there was a club that needed Earnie Stewart for both his scoring prowess and his verteran leadership qualities, it's DCUnited. I love the thought of the influence he could have on guys Tino Quaranta and Bobby Convey as they come into their own. Come to DC, Ernie! It's really a much nicer place when you're not playing against Honduras.

Nice piece. I remember that FSW carried NAC Breda's match the weekend after 9/11, and they showed the moment of silence. Earnie was moved, obviously. Even more so when guys on the opposition came up to say a good word to him, etc.

But if he goes to any team in MLS, it should be the Fire. ;)

I think Soccer America reported it in a recent "MLS Confidential" e-mail to subscribers. I read in SA earlier this year that he would go to the Burn since he and his father are Cowboys fans. Who knows?

His dad lives in Texas. He wants to play someplace warm...my guess, the Burn or the EQuakes (if Landon goes)...

My bet is the burn. They thought they had him before, and they are still awaiting a Nat to be assigned.

Obviously I'm a Galaxy fan, but you may not be aware that L.A. still owed an allocation player for Greg Vanney and L.A. still has not exercised that option. Carlos Ruis is a discovery player, not a replacement for Vaney.

I do agree MLS allocations policies are confusing and sometimes biased.

I'm sorry, but when you said "you may not be aware", I immediately thought of the Seinfeld episode where George starts working for a company after the interviewer says "you are aware", then gets interrupted.

Amusing... doesn't matter if LA is owned anything, Dallas hasn't gotten didly crap.

Yank comes home, plays for Burn.

Ever since global warming it's nice and toasty here in Denver. Earnie would be a great Rapid! And we lead the league in attendance, he would be well received!

The Dallas Burn, in 7 years in MLS, have NEVER,
repeat NEVER, had a starter for the US National
Team. Kreis had a few games, Santel had two
call ups. Dodd played the "scrub" tour of
South America in the winter of '98(?). Deering
played in France, then came home to Dallas.
Other than that, zip, zilch, nada. The total caps
of all players on every other team in MLS is 100x
that of all Burn players all time.

The Dallas Burn, in 7 years in MLS, have NEVER,
repeat NEVER, had a US National Team "star"
    assigned, allocated, discovered, drafted, pilfered
or otherwise delivered to the Cotton Bowl.

EVERY OTHER TEAM has had marquee USians
    assigned, allocated, discovered, drafted, pilfered,
or otherwise allocated to their respective
    franchises.

The Dallas Burn Front Office has traditionally
been dealt the worst hand with respect to
funds and tools with which to market the
    franchise. Name-Brand USians are an
essential tool around which every other
franchise have had the benefit of building
    marketing campaigns.

Precisely for the reasons listed above, in spite
of Earnie's ties to Texas, I predict the streak
of no Marquee USians at the Cotton Bowl
    will continue.

Dallas Burn - the team 42nd street Forgot.
(And Lamar could give a rats a$$ about).

The Dutch don't even think twice about English. I doubt there is anyone in that country under 40 who isn't fluent in English

Good point, Flan. About 95% of those I encountered in Holland speak very fluent English.

I saw that first-hand when I was in Holland last September.

And yes, that was during the very week of 9/11.

And having also seen the sentiments of the Dutch people (actually, those in Haarlem, some 20-30 minutes outside of Amsterdam) first-hand as well following 9/11, I can clearly identify with what Earnie was quoted as saying in the article.

    Cheers,
    William

Yeah!!! Preach it, brother! And the ignored bunch of green card-holding misfits'll knock the US U-23 team out of playoff contention again next year! Here's to Rhine, Broome, Pareja and Kries -- guys who would've been playing A League years ago but for the Burn finding gold in them thair hills.

Okay, sadly off-topic, but I like to see it anyway. Dallas is becoming one of those rarities in MLS' backwaters -- a team with actual community support. Witness bigger turn outs for good runs and playoffs and increasing attendances. Stewart'd be used as a trump card to shut up a club that needs that ever-magic, never-working "quick fix" to get better gate receipts a la Hernandez, Mattheus, etc.

Remember in the notorious article Stewart never said he wanted to play in Texas. Only that he wanted to play somewhere he could golf and it was HIS DAD that was the Cowboy fan. The writer construed that to mean HE was a Cowboy fan -- as if that'd make any difference. My guess is Stewart to KC or perhaps Chicago, but that it'll not happen. Shame, because he seems like he'd be great on the US coaching circuit.
