I don't think it's really underrated, it's more that other rivalries (LAG vs. CUSA, and others) have been over hyped and not backed up by the on the field product.
I cant wait for tomorrow. I think this is a fantastic idea. I've always said MLS is like the NFL in the respect that its a once a week happening. Whereas all of the sports happen every two or 3 days apart. this will be a real Game Day experience similar to how the NFL is. Its really cool. I would like to see another rivalry week later on in the season: SJ vs. LA DC vs. Philly Revs. NY Vancouver vs. Seattle
Add Chicago vs. Columbus, Colorado vs. Dallas, Houston vs. SKC, and Portland vs. RSL; repeat Montreal vs. Toronto; give Chivas USA the bye. Not on the schedule this year, but something to consider going forward.
An SJ-LA match today likely would've more than made up for the two games MLS and NBC decided to showcase so far. But then again, I'm glad we're not playing them this early in the season. It would be extremely tough when you're missing two double-digit goal scorers and leader in assists from last season. Seattle and Portland better put on a show tonight. Horrible for MLS to have 3 boring scoreless games when NBC has gone all out to make today a big deal.
They're getting screwed by the crappy East Coast weather too. Empty seats in NY, Philly and Columbus.
I agree, so far... The 3 American MLS games have a 0-0 draw, which isn't good for drawing new fan interest into the league during this NBC promo.
New name for show: instead of NFL Red Zone, MLS Dead Zone. Need 4-5 simultaneous games to make that work.
Great idea.. Now gather all your data and apply all lessons learned to the next iteration. -biggest things would be scheduling, potential weather has to be the biggest consideration. Its nice to have light competition from other sports, at the same time it hurt thecrowds. Anyhow I want more.. Kudos for Breakaway, just refine that as well.
Does NBC and NBCSN have another rivalry week planned again this season? That was awesome 10 hours of MLS soccer.
Don't think so unless they move some games around, browsing through the schedule didn't see any weeks with a lot of "rivalry" games scheduled.
Yes, I just check myself and didn't see NBC and NBCSN having more than one game in the same week. Oh well it was alot more than ESPN has ever done, GREAT job NBC. I hope that NBC gets a chance to televise MLS CUP in the future.....
TIFO fail at Montreal. But at least they've graduated from garbage bag and bedsheets. The words say 'Here today and for always' In honesty, despite my feeling that a lot of Montreal supporters are twats, I can't deny their passion for their team. They bring it 90mins every time I've seen them. If you have a chance to go to Stade Saputo for a game, do so. Hard to tell from this pic, but you can tell the cluster of red. plus all the people on the blue section on the top were also TFC supporters. According to Paul Beirne and IMFC, 3200 TFC supporters estimated. Either way, glad to be part of something special despite the result and looking forward to the day when MLS keeps growing I see another MLS team break this away support record.
We had some fun tifo issues in KC too. But we also had a ton of wind to deal with. And a much bigger banner than we've ever had.
posting official rivalry videos created by MLS teams. These are epic by all standards! FCD http://www.fcdallas.com/video/2013/03/12/crush-orange-2013 Huston rebuttal: http://www.houstondynamo.com/blog/post/2013/03/14/product-recall-orange-obliteration-system
Kudos for NBC and MLS. Fantastic weekend! TEN HOURS OF SOCCER!!! P.S.: Even the 0-0 draws were entertaining...
So many rivalries left out! This rivalry week thing, I hope it is here to stay. There could even be more than one in seasons ahead.
A great fit would probably be another in late August right before the college football season kicks off and market it as the push to the playoffs.
Actually, it said, "Hier aujord'hui et pour toujours" which means "Yesterday, today, and for always." Sorry to be a nitpicker.
