@herculezg: ¡Happy Anniversary Seattle! On this day 1 yr ago U made your first trip to the Estadio Corona .Such fun. ¡Yay! #CCL
By the end of the game, Herediano players were leaping into Galaxy players without trying for the ball at all. Dunseth was right.
Why do the MLS teams get so much worse in Santos? Is it the altitude? Its not like Santos werent trying in the 1st leg, and Dynamo went toe to toe with them..Then in Santos they look nervy as hell and make pathetic mistakes to lose
Actually Santos could have lead by several goals at Houston before Brad Davis scored the winner... the strikers were uncharacteristically rusty... Herc had several that he normally would bag.
And Mexican teams usually play like shit on the road. Shots on goal Houston 2 - 3 Santos Shots Houston 6 - 6 Santos But hey don't let facts get in the way of your hate. Haters will hate. But yes, I blame it more on Liga MX teams even against Central American teams they sometimes struggle on the road and then play lights out at home. That is why I was pretty confident that the 1 - 0 lead was not going to hold up. See blaming the ref can be fun, better than blaming the team, the coach or the player. Why save all the ref sucks talk for Copa Libertadores threads, you can use them in Concacaf Champions league threads.
http://www.futbolsapiens.com/2013/03/13/tuca-ferretti-seattle-tigres/ Tuca says that he thinks the red card was justified (maybe misquote) then said 10 vs. 12 was hard. English version http://www.socceramerica.com/article/50748/ferretti-playing-against-12-is-harder-than-usual.html
It only took about two minutes to see that Houston was going to sit back and try to hold onto the lead. Why MLS teams insist on playing "not to lose" in these games is a strategy that I don't understand, seeing as to how it usually results in a loss 95% of the time anyway. I'll also never understand why MLS coaches are so slow to make any changes--subs included--until the game has already slipped away from them. MLS defenses simply aren't good enough to absorb pressure for 90 minutes, and when you're relying on Will Bruin to be a threat by himself you're asking to get killed. Houston really needed a speedy option up top to stretch the D and pose a threat on the counterattack, but instead chose to stick to their guns and watched helplessly as they were overrun. Really, the look of panic on Boswell's face as he waited for Hall to come out for the ball pretty much summed up their night.
You're missing the context of the comment.....which isn't surprising. MexiKampion (I think it was him) suggested that Santos was dominating the game and that Herculez Gomez alone missed a number of chances that he would normally score. But the stats paint a picture of to evenly balanced teams in Houston.
Mexican teams suck in American soil and American team suck in Mexican Soil so yeah Gap is offically closed....
We suck more on Mexican soil than they suck on ours. The gap is really down to 3 or 4 players per MLS team that are completely over matched by their Mexican counterparts. And Mexican teams are great at finding those players and exploiting that. Opportunistic. It was Creavalle (sp) last night for Houston that stood out the most to me. He was God awful in both legs. Moffat and Barnes weren't a whole lot better. And that's all it takes. The good news is, that as recently as 4 years ago, there were typically 6-7 guys on the field for MLS teams that were completely over matched by their Mexican counterparts. So the gap is definitely closing, and its a lot closer than any Mexican fan will ever admit to. But its still there.
Who is hating? Did you watch the first leg? Santos controlled the match & had the best of the run of play always seemed more likely to score.. but were sloppy in the final third. Santos didn't look great but Dynamo also did not play as you would expect a home team trying to get a good lead either. And review my earlier statement.. before the Davis goal.. Santos (on a better day in the final third) could have been up by a couple... I think we can all agree that LigaMX teams have generally been a bit more clinical than MLS teams in the history of the CCL... it would not have been that extraordinary for that same first leg to have ended with 2 goal advantage for Santos.
Not really (but you are probably just joking), I would put it, Mexican teams play down to the level of opposition (sometimes up in Brazil/Argentina) when they are away, then revert to their normal level at home.
It could have ended 2 - 0 Houston 3 - 0 Santos 1 - 1 2 - 2 etc. etc. Like I said, more to due to MX teams playing to a lower level, and yes the game was even, and Houston had some good chances that did not all end on a shot on goal but in dangerous plays. You just need to step up your trolling game, that is all I am saying.
Most the times Mexican teams get themselves in trouble in the CCL by playing too condescending, just when they see themselves in presure they play at full. The chances that Lobos & García wasted in the Tigres - Seattle were simply ridiculous and showed a lack of interest, this can be seen a lot in CWC matches agaisnt the non European teams as well... they never finish their chances for that annoying condescending attitude.
Tranquilo pocho... you need to step up your comprehension game, that is all I am saying. I never said Santos dominated... as a response to someone saying that Santos sucked away at Houston I pointed out that they could have conceivably won the match.. they seemed a tid bit better over 90 minutes. Bottom line... it was an even match in Houston & a fairly one sided match in Torreon... Santos was over all the better team over two legs.. not much controversy there.
I never said anything different... you just weren't comprendiendo. I don't troll, I bring humor.. big difference.
