Hmm, briefly on Saturday I was streaming the same live game simulataneously to a Mac PC and the Panasonic App, under the same account and had no problem. (You know you're a soccer dork when you are going back and forth between two rooms in the house and stream the game in both so you can keep watching and not miss any of the action...)
FYI, if you don't want to wait the 48 hour blackout on MLS Live, you can watch Portland-New York on WatchESPN.com
For what its worth I was able to be logged in on both my PC and Android phone without being kicked off of either. That's how I was able to judge the lag difference between Direct Kick on DTV, MLS Live on PC, and MLS Live on Android. Also the "black out" issue that happened during the RSL/San Jose game for Direct Kick was an issue on DTV. Eventually @MLSonTV stepped in to nudge DTV to fix the issue. I'm assuming the issue involved letting us with DTV access the game since it was giving an "out of market black out" issue on my end here.
I wonder what the trend is on Direct Kick subscriptions? Given the cost and portability and ability to stream on many TVs (or AirPlay), I have to think that the DK figures are going down
Can someone explain the abbreviations? To me, "PV" means Photovoltaic and "DL" means detection limit.
The only thing i really understood was the MLS Live subscribers. I think DL may mean "download" but not sure. No idea what UU or PV is....
UU is unsubscribed users, PV is previous visitors, App Dl is app downloads, and App PV is previous visitors to the app.
Does anyone know if MLS Live shows archived CCL games? For example, will the Houston v Santos game be available after the game has been played?
I've wondered if on a per-subscription basis MLS gets more cash from MLSLive than DirectKick. In other words, does MLS get more money from the guy paying $79 for DirectKick, or the guy paying $59 for MLSLive? It's a question of how much the cable and satellite companies take versus how much Neulion takes.
That's what I figured. CONCACAF and Fox Soccer probably ask more for the rebroadcasting rights than MLS deems worth it. Guess I'll be finding a feed or a friend to watch the game tonight.
Fox has those rights, and they show them on their FoxSoccer2Go service. FS2Go will show the Monterrey match live, but the LA, Houston, and Seattle matches are available on demand beginning at 8 am ET the following day.
My guess is they get more from MLSLive - there's no middleman and only Neullion to pay for technology. DK has inDemand take a cut then the local cable companies. I saw recently where cable was irked because after they renewed MLB Extra Innings as part of a deal to carry MLB Network ( it was headed to Directv exclusively until Congress got involved), the sales of the package has not hit targets and fallen as more folks bought MLB.tv. They made some noise about being able to offer a package of both to their cable customers.
That was along the lines of my thinking too. But I just don't know for certain. I will say this -- seems to me in recent years MLS has really been pushing MLSLive. I don't see them pushing DirectKick all that much. Maybe that's just because the technology got better. But maybe it's because they get more cash per subscriber from MLSLive. If MLS does get more cash per subscriber from MLSLive, I'd consider that an incentive to go with MLSLive over DirectKick.
The people likely to subscribe to MLS Live are probably generally more in line with some of their target demographics. And, while I'm not in the "cable is doomed!" crowd, it's a progressive stance.
I am really suprised how nice MLSLive looks now on my Roku and with the ability to start games at the begining and now they archive games soon after the game is over. I don't think I will be getting DirectKick next year. Does anybody know how long it takes them to Archive the game once it's over. I do wish I could watch archived games on my IPad.
You can watch archive games on ipad...go to the scores page and look at past games. Both archive and Condensed games are listed there.
I love that you're here, Chris. Thanks. Suggestion for next release: Condensed and archived games should be someplace where there are no scores. If I can't watch until later I don't want to see the score before I watch the game.
The second one is like a 20 inch LCD, not some almighty setup. Was on sale for 100 at best buy a few months back, and i couldn't resist the chance to be able to easily keep an eye on multiple games and still have a computer free for posting and reading stuff here.
