Im also from Australia, and no its not from the heat. I wear leather boots all the time and im fine. I think its because of the people buying the products, want synthetic. Soccer (football with a round ball) in Australia is not so BIG as AFL (AFL is the stupid egg thing), but in AFL most people wear Asics boots. People here want Vapors, and synthetic boots like such. Also, the synthetics are the most advertised and told to 'improve' your game the most aswell....
Gato's are up there, as one of the comfiest/cushioned(lunar gato) Theres also joma top flex, adidas samba's.. really depending on what your actually looking for, there is no 'best' its all down to the person and what they want from the shoe

What are you using to successfully repair the upper and sole separation around the toe of your leather boots? I have tried shoe goo and freesole and JB Weld. JB Weld held the best but eventually re-separated. The separation is around 3cm wide and maybe .5cm at the deepest point. HELP ME.
shoo goo works well if you make sure you really clear the surface and use a fair amount, making sure you don't have the adhesive spilling over the lip of the soleplate. If you also make sure you clear any dirt it should work fine. You can add a little tissue paper just to create a bit more of a solidness in the bond.
The tissue paper idea is a good one. What do you lean the surfaces with? I just used warm water and a tooth brush, maybe I will try a bit of soapy warm water. I must preserve these boots as I can't find them anymore.
I think freesole works better than shoegoo as it is actually polyurethane. I clean it with isopropyl alcohol.
i use a toothpick and sort of pulled out the dirt then used a toothbrush and warm water to get out the rest. if you do a good job with the cleaning i can assure you it will hold, if not buy a new tube of the stuff and try again.
Soccer boots should be shaped more like vibram five fingers in the toe area. I'm regarding the general shape of the upper, not toe pockets. I have bruised big toe nails from pressure cause by the angle of the to box area. It seems like boots are designed on a last for people who have second and middle toes longer than their big toe.
It seems like a good idea to shape a soccer shoe like that, but there are some major downsides to this concept, which is why you dont see it all that often. When you make a toe box that isn't round, but instead follows that natural shape of the foot, you run into the issue that not everybody has feet that are the same shape. Some people's feet come to a point at their big toe, where as other people's feet come to a point at their second toe (Hopefully I'm making sense here). You can't build a shoe with an anatomical shape to it because it won't fit many people as well as a traditional rounded toe box will. There have been shoes like this before that have been massive failures. If you can remember the Puma v1.08, v1.10 and v1.11, these all featured a toe box/forefoot area designed to follow the natural curves of your foot. This made for an odd look, as the toe box came to a point at the big toe and it also made for some really tricky sizing. Personally I liked the idea and how it felt, although it wan't the best fit for my foot type, but for the most part people just avoided the shoe all together. Puma still has a similar concept implemented in some of their current models, like the evoSPEED 1, bit its not to the same extreme that we saw on the V-series. Its a good concept, but you run into some major issues when it comes to building a shoe to fit the masses, and if people don;t want to buy it, than companies aren't going to make it.
Guys, a friend of min was trialling at Manchester United and was told that they require all first team players to have carbon inserts in their boot sole? I remember a pair of Paul Pogba's boots being on sale on ebay some time ago, where that featured. Does anybody know anything about it?
Anyone's ever tried putting in gel heel inserts to give yourself more of an "on your toes feeling"? Did it work?
Never tried it but....whether you feel more on your toes or not, you're still very much on your heels even if at a different angle. Which is one reason I don't understand Asics 10mm thing. In fact, having a raised heel actually makes it harder to stay off your heels due to the fact that the angle between your foot and the ground needs to be greater in order to truly be in an athletic position.
Also, I've been looking at joma top flex's recently and I was looking at the other ranges Joma do.. and came across some other boots by them.. then you have the powercat looking ones and the ctr looking ones.. are joma the trolls of the boot world?!
