Since everyone likes ripping on the Soul for attendance I thought I would post the attendance figure from Friday's game which I found out from the Soul. They drew 3,303. This is not posted on pointstreak yet. Total attendance is now 23,659 for an average of 2,366 per game. I know this will open up the opportunity for everyone to jump on the Soul for the numbers but it isn't like anyone else is counting by two. I always wondered how Wichita. Always drew those nice round numbers like 2500 or 2600 each game. That must of been legit...right? Friday's number was legit as I said in the game thread Friday night that I thought there was about 3000 in house.
I had such a fun time at the last game in Chicago that I'm going to be going down to see the game on the 18th as well. I really like the venue, the event level is really nice. The arena looks a bit odd with the black wall at the end and the replay screen is a bit funky, but it was a really fun place to watch a game. Sadly, with it being a Monday game I don't think the attendance will be stellar, but would love to see a huge crowd as the team makes a playoff push.
3,303 might have been correct... in metric! (Double it and add 30) 1,636 is probably the correct (non-metric) figure.
All sports reported attendance figures are NOT how many people are actually in seats but tickets distributed. Also not sold but distributed. How many times must this be mentioned.
Actually, each sport has it's own set of guidelines re: attendance reporting. As for indoor soccer, whatever the guidelines, they are loosely applied, to say the least. My all-time favorite was the method allegedly used by the Dayton Dynamo. Midway through the third quarter (assuming fans had returned to their seats from halftime bathroom breaks and concession runs), owner Jerry Butcher would lean out of the press box, scan the crowd at Hara Arena and arrive at a figure... The NY Express also had a ridiculous trend in announcing their attendances... magically, their home figures always had two 7's in them...
Once the Chicago Soul Stated to win and showed they can win people wanted to see them . Chicago could pull a upset and knock some out out of the playoffs and make it to the championship the way they have played since the new coach took over
They have some really great die hard fans, but you can't expect miracles their first season. I really enjoyed going on the last bus trip, am really looking forward to the one on Monday and next year I may go to some non -Wave games as well.
The Soul's record is 7-6 since Novi took over as coach. That's a significant improvement, but it hardly indicates that the team is likely to perform well if it makes the playoffs. And winning more hasn't had much impact on the Soul's attendance. It still isn't very good.
Playoffs will be especially hard to get a decent attendance at games because there is almost no time to get groups.
Last year, of the 4 teams in the playoffs only the Blast averaged less attendance at playoff games then their regular season draws.
Well I'll make a bet right now the soul will not get the attendance they got in the regular season and their attendance was poor in the regular season.
If they play the Wave in the first round I can guarantee my family will be there...and that's almost their season average lol.
I don't know what is going on with the Blast they stoped advertising and I have not even seen one commercial on TV Its like they are not even trying to fill the arena lake they have in the past
Except that he's right. Very few people in the Chicago area know or care about the Soul. That means winning doesn't really help their attendance because people in the Chicago area don't know or care whether the Soul is winning or losing.
That might be true skipper but youd think theyd be able to draw a good 3-4K base fans. Even playing in Hoffman estates, tons of youth soccer players and families in that area.
Just my opinion, but I think most of them don't know about the team because the marketing effort has not been very good. Someone who knows much more about this than I do has said that you have to sell an indoor soccer team like crazy in order to make it work. I think that's especially true in the Chicago area where there is so much competition for the entertainment dollar. I haven't seem much evidence of the Soul trying to sell the team in the Chicago area. They've done some things right like get decent players and some good promotions. But that doesn't do much good at the gate if most people in the area don't even know that the team exists.
I dont agree with that at all People want to see a winning team play . You are correct Verry few people know about them and its ashame . They could shock us all and win it all no one ever expected them to play the way they have been and we all counted them out at the start .
