Really? MLS and RSL cannot do better than this in the business that is professional soccer?

Right now there's usually more positives in going to Europe. I highly doubt that changes anytime soon. Given the structure of MLS, getting a solid 3 years out of a player is about par for the course anyway before there winds up being some kind of cap concern and needing to free up space somehow.

Remember, Randers offered a pittance to get Yura there earlier the season. Garson decided we could not do as well bringing someone in for that money as we could having him play out the contract and going for all the marbles in the playoffs. Worked out pretty well.

If a decent offer had come in the year previous, then maybe the business of professional soccer would've seen us sell Yura off, since he was determined to go sooner or later.

Considering what Yura did for RSL on his way out, I think we would take that again in a second.

Garth states this again and again, and does it pretty well.

The rarest talent in soccer is striking. MLS and RSL exist within an economic food chain.

RSL is not going to be bidding on Van Persie and Michu any time soon.

To maximize their position in that food chain RSL needs to make intelligent bets on young talent - principally attacking talent - and try to sell to Europe after benefiting from the production of those young players.

That is where we are. This may well change in time (and I think it will) but for now, this is MLS.

I like the non-Earth shattering signings of Juninho at LA, Bieler at SKC and Saborio at RSL. That's what I hope for.

best signing by an MLS club recently that really didn't make that much noise until he came: Higuain to Columbus. I'd trade quite a few RSL players to get him. Dude is just unreal

    Agreed, a very good signing.

On another note, at least we aren't waiting for Landon Donovan to decide yes or no. 3 weeks til first kick and no sign of him.

In this case, no news is...no news. Nothing has changed regarding the status of the player.

Ives probably hasn't found IBIK's post, because he was thinking it was another 8-10 days.

The Young South American forward thread would be a curious place to post news about a middle-aged North American goalkeeper and a middle-aged Jamaican midfielder.
