I think it's a promising move for the Wave. She seems excited and passionate about bringing more recognition to the Wave in southeastern Wisconsin. And she has a successful track record in her former role as Milwaukee County Parks director. Here's wishing Sue the best of luck and continued success with the Wave. http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwau...tceo-of-milwaukee-wave-k28m61p-190063731.html http://www.milwaukeewave.com/news/headlines/index.html?article_id=496
Has it ever been announced why Sue Black was fired as the parks director? Seems odd for the amount of good work she did in that position.
Never heard a definitive answer but Abele never really liked her from what was inferred when she was terminated.
Wave getting a ton of radio/TV publicity in Milwaukee due to the Sue Black hiring. Hopefully, that translates to a nice crowd on Sunday.
Agreed. There were hints of Black's insubordination that were never really followed up in the media, but if Chris Abele was looking for reasons for termination, they aren't hard to find. A million years ago, I had the feeling a supervisor wasn't happy with me, and when I got fired, the "insubordination" she referenced was that I didn't get a few projects done on time. What to me was - at worst - poor job performance was to her "insubordination". So I can see how that word got floated out there, and good for Black, she just kept quiet about it. That said, I am cautiously optimistic about her hiring. Clearly Jim Lindeman saw something he liked in her, but she doesn't have a sports background, and the Wave did win two titles even with that "vacant" position. Then again, it isn't my team and my money, so hopefully what Lindeman saw in her will bear fruit by next season.
Pssst...it's Lindenberg, not Lindeman Correct, she doesn't have a sports background, but my thinking is they're going to let Tozer continue to make all those decisions like he does now and her main focus is going to be in bringing in sponsorship money and using her contacts within local government. He even made mention on a couple of occasions her knowledge and connections withing the local political system and her contacts with many local businesses. I figured you we kidding about the keeper...but seriously, this kid Weber could be the next big scorer in the league.
Sue Black will finally add some direction to a front office that has not had it. Her "lack" of soccer or professional sports knowledge will not effect how she does her job...that's where Tozer comes into play. The key thing will be...how much of an effect will she have on the business relationships with the Wave. Those have been lacking over the past few years. How will she motivate the staff to sell tickets? That would be my biggest area of concern. Don't start filling up more than 3,000 seats per game and that team will be in serious trouble. Their avg per game has got to be around 2500-2700 per game (though they'll tell you it's closer to 3,500-4,000) Don't start getting more people in the seats, big corporate sponsors will not touch the team, no matter who is running it.
The Wave is averaging 4,663 fans per game this year. And those numbers are 100% accurate. Not sure what would make you say otherwise. Other than that, I completely agree that it seems like a good hiring, and her main focus is going to be increasing the amount of corporate sponsorships and getting more people to come to games. And I am optimistic about her ability to do those things.
I don't know what games you are watching, but there is no way in hell they have been getting to 50% capacity at the games. 4500 tickets distributed or printed maybe, but they have only had one game that they have had that many actually fans in seats.
Do you live in Milwaukee and go to games? Yes, the numbers they are reporting are accurate. There is absolutely zero inflation going on with the Wave's numbers. If you've been to games this year, you would see that, so my only guess is you haven't.
To answer your question...I have only missed a couple of game at the Cell in the past 6 years. That being said...I know what the crowds have looked like. hahahaha no inflation of numbers? oh you are living in a fantasy world. I know that the numbers that they report are not actual bodies in the seats. If that is what you are basing your numbers off of...well you are a fool. 5,327 on Sunday?? I'd say no more than 4,200...way too many open sections to be over 5,000 at that game.
The one thing you can't deny, no matter what the announced numbers are, the crowds are much larger this year than in the previous 2 seasons. This is my 3rd year as a season ticket holder and the crowds this season are way up, I'd venture to say 25-30% more fans than the last two seasons easily. About the only sections that are thinly populated are the corners and the 400 sections. IMO they were pretty damn close to the 5k announced. The front office did a fantastic job with the futsal tourneys before games because they sold tickets as part of the entry fee and had huge turnouts because of it.
I'd take 4,200 on a Sunday afternoon anyday. If 5,000 is the measuring stick these days, 4,200 isn't that far off. I know in KC, crowds have been awesome (about 5k) on Fridays and Saturdays....but just OK on Sunday afternoon (3600). We'd take 4200 on a Sunday afternoon in KC. Having said that, maybe Sunday afternoons draw better in Milwaukee.
THIS JUST IN... Sue Black has taken a page from Shepp Messing's smash autobiography that chronicles his decades of success with indoor soccer.... Sue announced today that she will start in goal this weekend for the Wave!
