I'd like to know if any enhancements are planned. For example: condensed games. I like these things to catch up on all the action I missed after a weekend. (They were a godsend after the Olympics.) I find it annoying that the condensed games aren't available on the web, forcing me to watch them on my iPhone. ------RM
Condensed games are available on the web. Click to watch the full archived game, then when it comes up, on the bottom near where the quality bar is located, there's a set of arrows that says "VIDEO Full Game" next to it. Just click on that, and then a box drops down to say "Full Game" or "Condensed". You can select it from there.
Forgive me if this has been discussed ad nauseum but will this new addition include android app capabilities? Ive got a nook tablet
They haven't said anything about Android apps yet, unfortunately. As of now, it's only available on a few platforms, which means no PS3, XBOX, or Android. They might be working on something, but they haven't revealed anything at all.
Thanks! I don't know how I missed that. Actually, I know exactly how I missed that. They did a pretty good job of hiding that functionality from people who aren't in the habit of clicking every button just to see what it does. At least on the web, doesn't the slider/progress bar give you that ability? I know the beginning of the second half is always clearly marked, and I used that to skip halftime when watching a replay of a match that hadn't been processed for archival yet. It shouldn't be that tough to figure out where 15, 30, and 60 minutes are. ------RM
You're absolutely correct, and if it wasn't for the fact that I'm a technology guy, I wouldn't have noticed it either. Part of my job is making sure that the technology works, so that means clicking on every single thing possible.
If you know you are going to purchase it regardless, no harm in buying it now. If you are a first-time buyer and want to sample the product, wait until after first kick weekend which will likely be free. My automatic renewal occurred a while back.
Last season every match was between 18 and 22 minutes. (Watching on the Roku, when you pause it, you can see how long it takes.) They don't just show the basic highlights. It's a little more in depth with a few more replays, and they show every shot on or at goal. One of the better things about the Roku app is that even if a match is blacked out because it's on national TV (NBCSN or ESPN), the condensed match still shows up after a couple of hours, and you can watch it that way. You can't watch the full match archive for 48 hours. So far, the Roku app is the only place I know of where you can do this. If you try to do it through the web, it won't work because you can't select the match and then change it to condensed.
Adding apps to the apple store is an incredible headache, even changing the name requires you to resubmit entire app for reapproval, doesn't make sense for them to upgrade it until all changes are made.
That is good to know that blacked out matches will still appear on Roku - and better that the condensed matches will be available a couple of hours after the game itself. Too bad that full matches are delayed 48 hours - that seems pretty extreme. 24 hours I could see, but oh well. Cut the cord a couple of months ago and am excited to try it out on my Roku.
I remember being able to watch condensed matches on my iPhone shortly after they aired on network TV. ------RM
Are the blackouts on MLS live based on ip address or credit card address? Can you simply mask or shift the ip and watch your home team's matches?
I got Directv and want to sign up for Direct Kick. Last year I had the subscription through my Ipad. When you get NBA League pass, you also get the broadband subscription for free. Does MLS do this as well? It's a nice benefit of league pass when you are not at home.
Yes, they (the online and tv ppv packages) have been historically separate from MLS. (No indication yet, afaik, if that will continue to be the case or not in 2013. Although they are already charging those auto-renew online MLSLive subscriptions independently.)
Combining the two packages is a sucker's bet. The NBA is the only league that does it because they were charging extortionate amounts for their packages, and no one was buying. I mean, why would you when you can watch NBA games every night across 6 different channels? It's more profitable for the leagues to offer it separately. It started with MLB and their MLB.tv package. When they were asked if the two packages would be combined one day, they scoffed because MLB.tv makes a shit-ton of money for them.
FYI the registration form for new users is now available. https://live.mlssoccer.com/mlsmdl/secure/registerform
I did notice they are now offering an monthly subscription option along with a free game of the week. Now only if they will offer some kind of Android app I might jump aboard again for this year.
