Jason some say that it was just chosen is that true, I voted for general name concept but this leaves much to be desired.
They had an open suggestion period, then a list of the most popular suggested concepts (Mile High, 5280, Queen City, etc) were sent out and members were asked for their favorite concept or combined concept. From that feedback the leadership chose a name.
There isn't any name out there that wouldn't have evoked this response from someone. Just best to move on. I feel like the 38 part is forced, but oh well. It makes just as much sense as Class VI, Pid Army, or Bulldog SG ever did. The only factioning that I see will be "Are you a sitter or a stander?" or something like that. As long as I keep getting a reduced rate on my ticket and I still get to sit amongst other people who actually care about the results on the pitch, I'm happy.
If 5280 is "too Denver" (which is funny, catering specifically to the minority of the states population not living in the metro area) then isn't Centennial too suburban? I mean, I know the Centennial kind of crowd is what the FO prefers over the more Denver kind of crowd (which if we could tap in to I think we could be like some other teams in regards to atmosphere, but an awful stadium location kinda hampers that), but, geez. Lets go for sponsorship! Hidden Valley Highlands Ranchers might work.
Actually its just about an even split in Colorado between the Denver metro area (2.6 million) and the rest of the state (5.2 million total). Now I don't see 5280 as particularly Denver-centric, but that's how it was explained.
Ask anyone what city is the queen city and you'd get neither of your answers... Everyone would say cincinatti
I think we should have gone with something irreverent like the Dead Kenny's Eric Cartman's Ginger Army, Stan Darsh's Aspen Army, Mr Hanky's Burgundy Army or hell the South Park Cows... Pay Homage to one of colorados most famous exports
3rd 'graph. Last time I was in that airport I seem to remember a number of tourist propaganda posters playing up the "Queen City" thing as well.
If I'm not mistaken though that figure doesn't include Boulder. The Front Range has most of the population, regardless, and 5280, a reference to, yes, Denver, shouldn't be exclusionary to people from elsewhere. Do the Nuggets lack can support from outside the city because they're called "Denver"? I can't see this being an issue in a state with one large metro area and that's it.
Given the number (2.6 million), Jason's probably going by the Denver MSA, which does not include Front Range areas such as Boulder County, the Springs, Greeley, Fort Collins, and Pueblo.
Hard to consider any of those other than maybe Boulder as the "Denver" the group was trying to avoid being Denver-centric in the name choice.
Right, which is why I said it does not include Boulder County and Greeley among other places (Greeley as a short hand for Weld).
Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you. I don't think Boulder would like being lumped in with Denver. I'm not sure even all of the Denver MSA would though maybe they're more used to it.
Sorry amigo, as all my friends in Boulder explain ... people from Boulder make fun of Denver, people in Denver make fun of the Springs, people in the Springs make fun of Pueblo and Pueblo just has to take it. At least you don't have the juxtiposition of Megachurches and topless bars/liquor stores in Pueblo
Nothing. It's a meme on this board. It started out a couple of months ago as a token reply to threads/posts that were non-news or baseless speculation, because talking about something like sandwiches has about as much significance or meaning in relation of the club (the organization, not the sandwich). At some point it morphed into a running gag, and is pretty much the greatest thing in the history if the universe ever.
