It was a matter of time before a trade dumb enough to happen reared its ugly head. Eric Hassli! Yeah, that's the ticket! We'll take the worst teams players! Yea!

Because bad teams can't have good players?

Because that deGuzman trade was a disaster, eh?

FCD now has a lot of money. So, buy a French striker who wants out of Toronto who has scored 15 goals in 51 games and is paid US$550,000 a year.

Also, Pipico or whatever his name is took a closer look at FCD and bolted. Really, who can blame him?

I am more interested in what FCD is giving up for him. A first round pick could end up being the overall number one.

Standing alone, without knowing the particulars of the deal, he seems like a fine addition.

    The team needs more tats.

So if FCD brings this dude in, how many goals will he score? What round of the playoffs will he take us to? I'm excited about this buy now that I've heard the positivity of fellow hoop fans.
I'm thinking 3-4 golden boots in a row is very possible!

I do think Hassli has potential to score 12+ goals per season, if he can stay healthy enough. He scored 10 goals for Vancouver in 2011 and after being traded to Toronto, scored 3 goals and 2 assist in 7 games. That's on a terrible TFC team. He was hurt like half the season in 2012.

He's got a lot of gaps in his game. For a big man, he doesn't quite get stuck in, esp going for headers. A lot of inconsistencies, but will score goals in bunches. Has a soft first touch, and a cannon of a shot from outside the box. Seems most effective in a 4-4-2 and doesn't do well in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 when he is asked to be lone striker to hold up the ball/maintain possession.

Based upon the above posted pictures, he has immediate street cred with me. Are you guys kidding me, a goal scorer who won't break the bank... and we are complaining?

He makes $550000 a year. He scored 5 goals in 2012. The franchise has no direction. That's why people are complaining.

I'm a miserable big shit:) outside the interwebins I try to not say negative things. I save it up for forums.
I probably need to take a hiatus from FCD altogether until SH and HSG are no longer involved so I don't drive everyone more nuts than I do already. I'm a nats fan first. A player fan second and a club fan third. Sadly, half of my favorite players don't play for FCD anymore.

    1. Wooaahh, hater patrol.

    2. Blas Perez and Eric Hassli. That's two pretty good strikers right there. Which may I remind you is one more than we had last season.

    3. Blas Perez, Eric Hassli, and Kenny Cooper. That's three pretty good strikers there which is two more than last season.

I'm willing to give this acquisition the benefit of the doubt, given how many players have had career revivals after leaving Toronto, including Jeff Cunningham and Julian de Guzman.

Plus, it is a stretch to say that Hassli's identity is that he's a Toronto player. He was with Vancouver for more than half of the season, and during that half they were better than us.

Actually there's a long history of strikers leaving Toronto, and subsequently having strong seasons. (Cunningham, Conor Casey, Edson Buddle, etc.)

Hassli's fine. If TFC's willing to eat a bit of that salary, to me its a no-brainer.

With the international transfer window snapping shut, who in the world do people think we're going to get? Eric Hassli's exactly the kind of guy that's going to be available to us.

MLS int transfer window is open until apr something which to bring in int players. Any league can bring in any player as long as its own transfer window is open.

I actually haven't seen much of Hassli other than his Goal of the Year stunner............................

Do we think he can play off of Perez in a much discussed 4-4-2?

At this point, I am glad to see them make a bold move like this. Hassli is a solid player, scores some amazing goals, misses some bunnies. The thing that worries me a bit is the hot headedness he has shown in the past is very much in line with this club, so just one more guy to worry about. I don't see him and Blas being an ideal combo, but who knows. It's too big guys who are handfuls for defenders, which perhaps creates space for the little guys to break in behind. It should be interesting to see how things go the rest of preseason.

And we should also note that with WCQers, the Gold Cup, and his inevitable injuries............Blas Perez will miss substantial time this year.

Hassli will presumably get substantial playing time no matter what formation we're in.

Well at least you're honest. I'm glad you at least keep it positive on game days, which is more than I can say when the shit hits the fan. Take that hiatus, but remember that if you wait that long you'll just wind up dead ;).

A Nats team first? Can't understand supporting a part-time team over a full time club but if that makes you happy then great. A player fan after that? Even more baffling but I'm glad I got a peek inside the brain of 7throw.
