Rodriguez was better than what we currently have behind Benitez..............which is thin air.

Right now, with the sale of Shea, our roster is incredibly paper thin.

I don't care how much they got for him. I have zero faith any of that money will be spent on bringing in a player of equal or close to talent. I have little faith we will recognize and make the commitment to bring them in.

We went from optimistically a borderline playoff team to 16th place. Maybe Ferreira reurn to 2010 form. Maybe Catsillo and Jackson can play consistently game to game. Maybe Luccin is the answer at d-mid and Pipico can score goal like Ruiz used to. Maybe our goalie will save our ass again game after game.

That is a lot of maybes and I am sick of losing borderline US national team players (Pearce, Goodson, Cooper, McCarty, Shea) and seeing pennies in talent in return or a player plan that looks more than 2 weeks in advance.

Damn. I want to win games.

I hope this at least means we can bring Kenny Cooper back. Would love to see him in "stripes aka post-hoops" again.

Now that the Shea deal is done.........our roster is even more questionable. Here's what our starting XI would appear to be right now (although we could be going to a 4-4-2. We'll see about that):

    ----------Perez---------
    Castillo--Ferreira-Jackson
    ----Jacobson-Luccin--
    Benitez-John-Hedges-Loyd
    ----Fernandez/Seitz----

So what have we managed to accomplish this off-season?

    1) DeGuzman has been replaced with Luccin. Downgrade
    2) Hartman is replaced by either Seitz or Fernandez. Hard to say if it's an upgrade, since we haven't seen Fernandez yet. I have my doubts, though.
    3) Castillo would appear to replace Shea. If we believe we were going to get Shea's healthy, 2011 form, then it's a downgrade here in my view. Pretty close, though.
    4) After dumping Leyva, Villar, Rodriguez, and others............we have zero depth behind the injury prone Ferreira, the knucklehead Jackson, and the youngster Castillo.
    5) We have no experienced depth behind Loyd and Benitez. I guess the backup to Loyd is Woodberry, and the backup to Benitez is.............Acosta?
    6) If Jacosbson of Luccin goes down.............it would appear we're going with Warshaw, Ulloa, and Acosta. We didn't address this glaring hole in the draft, instead grabbing another centerback and a kid who prefers to "plant churches" than play for us.
    7) Let we forget, we're losing Perez for the Gold Cup this summer for an extended period. He also seems injury prone.
    8) We're probably losing Ihemelu....................our former captain.

The only position I'm happy with is centerback. With Hedges/John as starters and Keel/Zimmerman/Woodberry/and maybe Ihemelu as backups..............we're set there by god.

So, if we start from the premise that we weren't a playoff team last season..................are we BETTER going into 2013? I don't see it. Our only hope is that Ferreira returns to 2010 form and is the "straw that stirs the drink."

I am not gonna argue anything you just listed out, other than maybe Castillo being better than last years Brek. Let's wait and see what the lineup looks like come opening day, and then we can start worrying about drop offs from this year to last, I at least want to see the full picture before I kill the club. Who knows, perhaps for once midway through a shitty season they realize they can't compete and give all the kids some playing time, and we can finally see if signing kids from the Academy is worth the investment, or it needs to be something that is utilized once they are 19-2o year olds. Sure feels like this club has no identity of what it wants to be, or do though..18 years and still no direction, now there is your new marketing slogan!

I'm surprised we haven't brought in the ex-SMU kid that got cut by Dynamo 2 weeks ago.

    Seriously. I am.

Ok, everyone please take a deep breath. There is already a ridiculous amount of negativity on here to begin with. It's sucks that our first game of the season is tomorrow and we're paper thin....wait what? It's not starting for over a month? Oh, ok. Maybe we should just wait and see then. Until then, settle the f uck down.

I read on Twitter (not sure it's the best source, but let's go with it) that between cap space and the $500,000 or so in allocation money FCD would get for Shea's transfer, that FCD would have approx. $1.1 million in money/cap space to play with. That's a nice chunk of change, easily enough to bring in 3 or 4 quality signings.

I'm not sure they'll do it, particularly by the start of the season, but it does provide some possible light.

Man, I would love to see Nunez drop by for a visit. When he left he was an immature punk and now he is a... mature punk but I'd love to see him get a fresh start here assuming he was healthy.

Watched US-Canada and saw Davis and Johnson and thought about how Dallas players only make the squad after they leave. Don't forget about losing national teamers from other countries too like Chavez.

The good news is that if we don't bring a whole slew of new players in, our primary backups at most positions are the youngsters. It would appear that some of them are going to get a chance this season.........................except Sanchez. Perhaps Richard will get an early USOC game, but I doubt it.

The money/salary cap space we've got from this Shea deal must be used wisely. Unfortunately, I have zero faith in Clavijo. We'll see..................

So all reports today seem to be back at the $4 million mark, which feels really low for a guy like Brek. That's disappointing. Now on to the part that brought me here...there is an interesting article on Big D that discusses all the money pieces of selling Brek. This part is what got me thinking...

"Alongside Brek's now-vacant $354,000 salary (per the MLS Player's Association salary release), the $650k allocation frees up just over $1 million in cap space."

So Dallas has a current roster that has decent to good pieces, but lacks a lot of depth and has questions in the middle. I have to believe the club decision makers looked at the current situation with no solution as to how to make the squad into a playoff contender with the limited cap and cash. They got an offer on Brek, and said look we don't want to get rid of him, but if we all want to keep our jobs and make this team better, we have to sell him. If Dallas is smart, they can do massive upgrades to the current squad, get in a 1 or 2 game changers, and a few spare parts to really give them some depth. I really think if done right, this could end up being the right decision for the club, despite selling at a lower rate than what most believe he is worth. Is that a bad business move? Perhaps. We will see soon.

Three picks in the Supplemental Draft were wingers. Perhaps they will be sticking around.

Perhaps SH realized the mistake he made in the second round, and moved in order to try and correct it.

It does seem to come down to whether Clavijo can parley that $1-1.1 million in salary cap space/allocation money into something productive on the field....either by opening day or by mid-summer at the latest. Clavijo is an unproven commodity in Dallas and has, shall we say, a checkered past in the league up to now. It's a big "if" as to whether he can come through and bring in the needed players.

    But I'm hopin'.

Well, with all of this allocation money and Brek's salary off the books, no more "We don't have the cap space" excuses. Now's the time where we really see if our FO knows what the fck to do.

Random side note, just saw that JDG just signed with some random club in Germany league 2. Sure wish Dallas could have upped the salary offer with this new cap space and kept him.
