There's a guy on my men's team that wears Nike baseball cleats and he's a pretty good player. Not great but definitely better than you'd expect. The funniest part is he wears Copa indoors to and from the game but I guess can't be bothered to get a proper pair of fg boots. Whatever works.

It's a tough choice between the Morelia UL's and the Estrela Neos.
I would have to go with the UL's though.

A few years ago I played Northern League football, and in one of my first games I wore Lotto Stadios, black with lime green fold over tongue a la Gullit. I got ripped to bits for wearing them, and while I played okay, I used them sparingly for the remainder of the season, reverting back to Specialis and some cheap adidas boots I had at the time.

In professional football, coloured boots are ubiquitous, but in the amateur game it just makes you look like you're trying too hard. People assume that is compensation for a lack of ability, ergo you get the 'all the gear, but no idea' insults.

Any of you fellas not au fait with cricket sledging should give it a look, that's some serious depracating banter - but mostly in good taste. Classic bit of cricket banter was when the 6'6" Clive Lloyd was approached by a female fan who declared her love for him and asked if he was in proportion. He laughed and in his West Indian accent replied "No, if I was in proportion I'd be 8'6".

Not gonna lie i have nothing wrong with a player wearing flashy boots if they're a proper good player. It's much like all of you have pointed out the people who idolise players and wear all the flashy boots but never pass the ball and just try and take people on which usually ends in them ending up at the corner flag or tackled after 2 touches. I, 16, much prefer black boots but will still wear coloured boots now and then and I get lumps kicked out of me no matter what boots I wear and by no means do I have a trendy haircut or anything like that. Maybe people are jealous of my ability ;). On a more serious note I'm not a player who will try tricks throughout a game but i do know when they are needed. I'd consider myself to play similar to that of Iniesta in that building up play i will pretty much just play quick passes but if there is space to drive into of course i will and in the final third i will use pace to stretch a team, of course i'm not 10% the player iniesta is but i like to think i'm decent. What I'm saying is if you're shit don't draw attention to yourself by mimicking ronaldo. But if you're quite a player, by all means knock yourself out.

Not one person said anything remotely racist. Here is my quote "If anything, most of the true "proper" players I know are European, African, Caribbean, and Latin guys that played in Europe or South America at a decent level before coming to the US. A lot of the US guys that are true "proper" players have been exposed to the above mentioned foreign countries, players, and/or coaches for most of their playing lives or have been part of professional or very top level amateur set ups in the US that had similar ethos."

I pretty much complimented every ethnicity possible in my post, barring Asian players. That is not because of racism, that is because there are not as a collective group that many Asian players around my area or in the places I travel to coach, so my exposure to their soccer culture is limited at best. I generally tend to interact much more commonly with the other mentioned ethnicities/expats. With that, out of the 1000's of players/coaches I interact with on a yearly basis, the small number of Asian players I play with, have coached, or coach with, or met have largely been impressive players and coaches. So even if you are trying to call me racist by excluding one group, I am sorry, but you lose. I was harder on American's than anything and being that I am American I don't think what I said qualifies as any sort of ignorant bias against an opposing national origin.

Again, I am not racist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, or religiously discriminate against anyone for that matter.

I have a Jewish girlfriend, a Catholic mother, a Hispanic best friend, an American Indian best friend, a long term coaching colleague that is Jewish, a business partner that is Jewish, several former players that I coached and that I am exceptionally close with that are Muslim, Hispanic, African, and of mixed race. Several former girlfriends are of various ethnic backgrounds and have previously volunteered free coaching services to at-risk inner city children in Baltimore - one of the most dangerous cities in America. Most of those kids happen to be South American, African American, and of Caribbean ethnicity.

I don't dislike anyone because of their race....I dislike people that are annoying, vocal yet stupid, and constantly talking out of their ass. I can say unequivocally that you fall into that category, if not lead the pack - at least on here.

Also, by calling me a racist you are committing libel - meaning you are falsely accusing me of something that can damage my reputation, in print. In turn my opinion that you are a total moron is not libel despite me printing it. One because you have no reputation to damage, and two, because that is my opinion of you, not a defamatory remark towards your integrity, reputation, or character. Nor is it damaging to any work you do. My name is tied to this site by many and calling me a racist on here could actually cause me harm financially, and professionally.

Not that I plan to sue you, but I could by all rights ban you.

This obviously shows your stupidity. The U.N. is muppet show; it is largely a collection of racist, xenophobic, sexually/religiously/socially discriminatory dictators, warlords, kings, presidents for life, human traffickers, and at worst genocidal war criminals. Human rights, racial equality, religious freedom, or freedom of any kind for that matter is not something most of the U.N. cares about. In fact, most leaders that show up in the U.N. directly oppose the concepts listed in your laughable definition.

Here is a pretty hilarious article on just this topic: http://www.torontosun.com/2011/09/23/uns-a-massive-joke

BTW, Google is more respected for it's accuracy, integrity, and commitment to equality than the U.N.

    Idiot.

    The irony.

My best friend that I mentioned above....very much looks like a joke, but is one of the best players I have played with over the course of my life. He has fallen off a bit now b/c he rarely plays but in his pomp he played pro and in some World Cup qualifiers. He is athletic looking up close but from a distance he looks small, frail, and bony. He also took to playing indoor in high top Iverson basketball shoes for a while - yet was still the best player on the pitch by 10 miles. He has also played in Rec Specs and US Army issued glasses (they are called BC glasses as in Birth Control for a reason), his mom's Keds, pajama bottoms with fish on them, the cheapest knock off boots I have ever seen, and jeans. Yes I saw him play an indoor match in jeans when he forgot his shorts; he scored four goals that game against a defense anchored by another pro player between contracts in this same indoor league.

I think he does this on purpose sometimes, so people that don't know him think he is a complete joke and then he just embarrasses them to no end.

I'm a bit surprised that (a) anybody cares what someone else is wearing and (b) the person wearing the boots cares what anyone else thinks of them. I wear what I want, not what someone else wants or expects me to wear.

    Nice collection Mercurial4991.

    Varies on location.

Another anecdote from me here. I played in a Five a side tournament recently in quite a rough area. There was this one team, who had come across from Spain and wanted to experience 'British football'. Boy they got a shock. I was one of the culprits, I must admit. There was this one guy, Arsenal shirt with 'Cazorla' on the back, Mercurials, rolled down Arsenal socks. He looked the part I must admit. Our team wasn't scheduled to play first round of games, so sat out. This Spanish team played against these rather large 30+ year olds.. And this one 'professional' guy stood out like a sore thumb. First time he got the ball, guy came in and shoulder barged him and he went flying. He went off alarming, claiming to the ref; 'That is a foul. You are not allowed to do that.' In a thick Spanish accent and everyone found it hilarious. They carried on, he kept getting physical tackles put in on him and in the end ended up walking off the pitch.

When we got around to his team, we were all laughing saying we wonder who he's going to have a go at first. It turned out to be me. I got stuck in a few times, he went off alarming, and after that I was like 'Right, I want to mark him'. By the end, he'd ended up shoving me in the chest and refusing to play. At that point, a guy on the side shouts at him saying; 'This is England mate. Come here acting like you do, with your fancy gear on and you'll get the sh*t kicked out of you. You're sh*t too you f*cking primadonna, get on with the game'. I've never played against a Foreign individual in my leagues that can stand up to British football in general. I've heard its the same in the States. But I couldn't imagine playing in Spain, or Germany, where any contact is deemed a foul. Seems part and parcel to me in football.

I think that sums it up. Certain areas/leagues aren't bothered about what you wear. Others will purposely target you and attempt to hurt you because of it. Believe me, I've been on the receiving end of nasty tackles far too many times because of it. Count yourself lucky that you can get away with it mate.

In my league, its pretty ethnically diverse. A lot of Mexican, Central and South American guys as well as most European countries (but mostly the former Soviet countries) and some Carribean guys. And of course your standard Anglo-Americans like myself. It's really interesting between the different styles of play, what is and isn't deemed a foul, etc.

    4. Nike Vapor VIII SG-PRO
    5. adidas Nitrocharge
    6. Mizuno Wave Ignitus
    7. Nike Vapor III

The Nitrocharge is a pretty rigid boot in my opinion and is going to require some break in time, at the moment our season is pretty busy with games during the week and such and I don't think it would be a good time to try and break a boot in.

I was considering selling them but I really want to give them a try, so far I have only worn them three times and they still need some more use before I can consider using them in games.

Also I have a question about the hot water trick, what is the exact purpose to it? Molding the upper or softening the sole? If anyone with experience using the hot water trick could explain the process I might give it a go.

I see many rating the Vapor III super highly, why did you put it so low on the list? Also what do you like best about the two/three best boots of yours? What shape is your foot and which surface do you play on?
    Thanks and awesome boots man

I feel that the Vapor III is a bit overrated, the break in period was dreadful with blisters, cramps, etc. I just consider the boots listed above it to be much better than the Vapor III overall.

Both Mizuno boots are the best football shoes I have ever worn I don't really want to go into too much detail but the barefoot concept behind the two shoes is fantastic. They both offer a great fit, comfort, and of course durability. I really hope Mizuno continues producing great products because I plan on using their boots till I can no longer play football..

The adiPower was a great release from adidas, on this particular boot I went half a size down to a 8.5 US and had a tough time breaking them in. After the break in period the boots fit like a glove and it is the best fitting boot I currently own, they lasted me a full season until the upper began to tear apart. Great boots though.

The shape of my foot is pretty average maybe a little narrow. If I could give you an idea of what the shape of my foot is it would be a bit narrower than Vujojosh's foot, I base most of my boot sizes off of him and always have a perfect fit.

I play on natural grass for mostly all of my games, have only played on turf about three times in the past 2 years.

noob-bob is still sending me PMs about this and accusing me of being a racist. I really let him have it. He is now claiming that race doesn't exist - via the Human Genome Project's findings. Sadly he didn't figure out that by claiming race doesn't exist, one can't be a racist.

He also fully advocated openly hating people for their religion, because religion is a "choice".

Did someone say he is only 13? If so I might have stunted his development to adulthood by being so harsh.

I am with you as well Pato, despite questionable statements via the HGP.

Yes, he's 13. You may have seen me post about this before.. But he trolls my articles on the website. Saying stuff like 'You're completely wrong, you don't deserve to write' and things like that. Obviously, I delete the comments. Don't mind criticism, but when it comes constantly from the same source.. It's a bit annoying.

But while we're on this topic. The thing about 'religion' is ridiculous. Many people don't 'choose' to do it. Parents encourage them/force them at times, and it's often a tradition that passes through many generations. But there is absolutely no right for anybody to abuse people because of a religion. I personally, don't agree with religions. But I don't hate like some people do.

Let people have their own choices. Neither me or JC have been racist, and it appears noob-bob has a little something for challenging individuals who are considered 'more powerful' than he is. So to speak. JC in the fact he's a mod, and me in the fact I write for a website.
