Ok, time does not heal this wound. I am pissed off, just like any true Quakes fan should be. Back where I'm from (Arkansas), when the home team loses, you don't get over it in just a day. It's this sick feeling that hangs in the pit of your stomach for at least a couple of days... oh wait, maybe it was the amebic dysentery...)

In any case, if there was ever a time to rage and be a "proper hooligan" (term borrowed from a fellow club quaker on the bus coming back from that place that shall not be named, for it is abominable) it would be this weekend.

Here's what I want to do:
    1. get together with some of you this week and make some signage. I understand that we need clearance to hang certain things off the stands, so someone needs to let me know how to go about that. If you're interested, PM me, and let's set something up.

    2. We should all buy some kind of toy fishing rod and bring it to the game. When I suggested this the first time, someone mentioned that the Spartan crew would never let that in. Does this mean that everyone who brings one will need clearance from the front office / Spartan staff?

    3. When the LA players are introduced, it would be really cool if everyone in the stadium has their Freekick magazine open and holds it up to hide their face while shaking it. The Casbah can shout "who's he?" or "who cares?" in unison.

    4. I'd really like to sing the flopper song (sung to the tune of flipper):
    They call him flopper, flopper
    He's the big flopper
    No one can be
    As floppy as he
-- after Ruiz takes his first dive at around 2'

Anyway, I have this week off, and I'd like to get together with some of you and make some signs as well as plan some stuff.

How about bringing big iron frying pans?

    Or fishing vests?

Or dressing up like the Gorton's frozen fish guy and carrying a barnacled new-england-styled fishing trawler on your back?

C'mon folks, let's get *even more* consumed with obsession!

I don't believe this thread concerns you, but anyway...

MLS needs obsessive fans - in fact, it's what this league seems to lack. I've been to too many games sitting around a bunch of players/ex-players who are only there to critique the game instead of cheer for the home side.

In any case, the large frying pan might come in handy for when I meet you )

But regardless, if there's a time to be obsessive, it's now. Come on people, the city of San Jose has had little to cheer about in the last year. Sports can be a very timely diversion for those who have not been very fortunate with the ebb and flow of the economy over the past year.

I'm going to obsess, if anyone wants to join me, let me know.

Personally, I agree. It's your call fellow Quake fans, but you may want to reflect on LA fans' unending obsession with Landon Donovan and how laughably pathetic they look running around with oversized images of L-Do drinking from a fountain before you engage in similar behavior.

If you want to make an impact, cheer on the Quakes mightily. I have a suspicion that the crowd is also going to boo Ruiz every time he gets the ball. All I can say is, it sure worked on Serna. :)

As much as Topper is trolling on our boards, I think it would be appropriate for him to carry some fishing gear as well...

Let's do it! Besides, Carlos looks a lot like Diego, at least with the same sh@tty attitude.

But I'm the comic relief for an otherwise sore subject...

Cool! I like my eggs over easy.... :p

Do you people really hate me?

    I don't hate you.

    I don't even dislike you.

    Topper

    :D

    Seriously!

I understand where you're coming from. It's that whole debate about positive vs. negative cheering. I think we need both. I don't know of a sport in the world where fans don't target player(s) from the opposing side. So I'll focus on the negative, and someone else can help out with the "go team!" positive stuff )

In any case, is anyone working on signage, positive or negative?

Haha... I don't hate you, I just hate your team and your abominable excuse for a city.

If you do a "who's he?...who cares?...so what?" kind of thing, try to let me know beforehand so I can try to give you some space to emote...

If he'd get El Flopadillo and Topper at the same time, I'd say we should all contribute to a golden retirement fund for the lad.

    Oh my, that's cold!)

I have to admit, I've actually started to like topper - he's a diehard fan. He's starting to move up to the vaunted status of almost-lovable-if-he-weren't-such-an-ass-sometimes troll. :D

I think you've got the right idea. Everyone around here seems to be getting worked up over Hartman, but to be honest keepers hear this same crap over and over again and are immune to it (outside of a certain former Revs Italian keeper).

Ruiz is working hard on becoming the next Serna, Diallo, etc. If he wasn't scoring goals for LA, how long do you think his teammates and the league would put up with his antics (you really think Cobi enjoyed being Ruiz's horse for one of his goal celebrations, complete with mimicing the riding crop...well okay but that's another thread). Yet another great talent with a short fuse; I'd love to contribute to his meltdown live and in person.

Oh, too bad, you want to turn that into another thread? I read the bit about the riding crop and figured, Oh, well...... :)

Um...let's not! We will not go there. I had the pleasure of seeing this little celebration in person. It was sick! I almost puked. Please let's not even go there.

Blowing out your knee hurts. Trust me. I know. No one, not even someone you hate deserves to have that happen.

Back on topic...I recommend a sign painting. Get 15 people together, a bunch of tempera paint, foam brushes, a huge roll of paper (check a teachers' store), and 3 hours. You'll get at least 40 huge banners painted.

How about an Ugly Ruiz mask, a la the Serna ones from last year?

I'm sure there's an unflattering photo of him flying around somewhere... I'll do some research and get back at y'all...

Haha! LOL!!! Now that's classic. If you can get a few copies of that made, I'll definitely help out putting together signs.

    I have a simple suggestion.

Every time Ruiz collapses to the floor and rolls around clutching his leg after a "tackle", we all hold up signs that simply say "6.0". (Which is, I believe, the highest possible score awarded in Olympic DIVING).
