I agree with you, one thing I thought about is that i think Ahn sometimes believe he can go to the biggest clubs in Europe like Man U, Barcelona , Milan.. I club that belongs in the middle of the league would fit him perfectly, if he playes good for some seasons, then he can think higher.

Don't mind Sky, there is a reason why people don't take his posts seriously...that's why i let him talk smack all he wants...

I agree that Ahn has some ball-dribbling probs, and imo, just because of what happen between Ahn and perugia, i don't think Ahn ever wants to go back to europe...

When Ahn is at his best, he's imo as good as likes of Beattie, Viduka, Defoe etc. (Some of u might think i'm crazy) and they play for mid-level FCs (Leeds weren't that bad before this season when they got relegated)

I agree, Ahn is up their at his best.
And as you say maybe Perugia destroyed the chance for him, but you never know..

the newest words from the rumour mill is that Lazio is interested in acquiring Ahn's services for the next season. Don't hold your breath though...

Didn't he play for Perugia and got released after he scored that beautiful header agianst Italy. He scored an awesome goal for Yokohoma from like 35 yds out last week.

Yes, Ahn was playing for Perugia when WC '02 rolled around. After Ahn scored the golden goal vs. Italy, Perugia's chairman went into hysterics and promised Ahn would never play for the club again. He backtracked from that a while later, but Ahn never did end up playing for Team Grifo again as he went to Shimizu S-Pulse for a season before moving to Marinos.

Too bad, too, as he was one of the few S-Pulse players who could actually score on a consistent basis.

He is a very skilled player and has considerable flair, which I appreciate. He has taken a couple of questionable career decisions, but he deserves one more chance.

Any further follow up? He is a sure pick for the NT in 2006, which is a plus and partially offsets limitations on his future transfer value due to his age, so I have to believe there are teams other than Lazio interested in him.

I want him to go to a team where he will start from early in the season.

If we thought Perugia (bunch of putanas) was a bad deal for Ahn, Lazio is a notch down. They may not have a crazy President like Perugia (Gaucci is a son of a putana), but the fan base of Lazio isn't one that I'd like to have jump off my bandwagon. They are full of racist bile and the fact that they would hang banners of Mussolini and Arkan (while Boksic played in Lazio) as a tribute speaks volumes of the Curva Nord. Europe is the prized destination, but if Ahn signs there and f*****s up, his head will be the first to roll.

Having said that, I actually like the guy myself. Granted all our girlfriends are going to make the comment as to how cute and good looking he is, but the lad shows up to games and performs. Not all the time mind you, but which footballer do you know that performs 100% of the time? I couldn't care less about his extra-curricular activities. If he does his stuff on the pitch, let him be.

Truth be told, I don't mind all of that as long as Ahn is out of the J-League. He's been deteriorating in a steady rate while he's been there. He performs best under pressure and he needs a kick in the ass and what better of a pressure cooker of an environment is a club like Lazio.

Master Hiddink said it best about him in his book, "Ahn is like Romario... you provoke him and you get results out of him... that is what seperates good players from the great ones" And since he hasn't been playing football in a pressure heavy environment and a coach who doesn't provoke him, he's been stinking it up.

i just don't think he should go to any club in italie serie a, i think any italian fan would be after his head for costing em the world cup....

I definitley don't mind seeing him in somewhere in england or spain or some good fc in europe, i still think Ahn is overrated but still good enough player to be playing somewhere in europe...

And don't take these rumors seriously, there was a rumor in 2002 about tottenham being interested in Seol and never happened...

I read an article not too long ago linking Ahn with FC Seoul. I guess nothing happend regarding that issue. What's the source regarding Lazio? The word "interesting" would be an understatement if Ahn does end up in Italy again(even though I'm sure that'll never happen). Ahn might be alright now since all Italy's wrath is towards the Danes and the Swedes.

as much as i like ahn, im gonna have to say that there is no way that these racist lazio will buy a korean player..

ehh i might be wrong, but i think its just a rumour..

    look at their squad..

all of them are WHITE europeans, with exception of couple players from argentina..

If Ahn has offers from Lazio, I'm sure he has offers from elsewhere.

Jeez, Lazio? Perhaps they don't have anything but white players because their demonic 'ultras' wouldn't have it any other way.

Let me throw my two cents into the Ahn ring. Ahn is one of our most talented players with the ball at his feet. He is one of our better shooters and I feel more confident having him take a shot than any other Korean-bred player. He's got the flair missing in most Korean players. On the downside, I think he plays stupid fairly often. I think Arie Haan of the Red China team said it once, and I sadly have to agree. He doesn't make the best decisions with the ball - he'll dribble into bad areas of the field, he'll lose the ball often doing the wrong thing. Still, Ahn is truly unique, and I have no problems with people calling him the best Korean player. Sure the david beckham analogy is tempting, but I wouldn't paint Ahn with such a broad brush.

As you say if Lazio is intrested some other clubs must be it to, i dont want Ahn to go there, but isnt that better than Japan at least?

Yep,hardcore Lazio fans call themself "SS Nazio".In the past quite a few black players have been on the receiving end of their racism.I think that French defender Thuram got it pretty bad a few yrs ago.

Ahn,just stay away from that ******** hole.I think he's too old & past his prime potential to return to the big leagues.

Well he didn't really shine with S-Pulse and had a slow start with Marinos, but his current scoring streak and winner in today's game to give Marinos the first-half title suggests that he is on his way back up.

To your point on motivating him, here's a quote from his current manager taken from Asahi.com:

F Marinos manager Takeshi Okada, who is seeking his third straight stage championship after last season's double, has seen a big improvement in the club's offseason signing from Shimizu S-Pulse.

``I think he has changed his mind-set,'' Okada said of Ahn. ``When he first came here, he didn't move and didn't fight. But now he is moving a lot and fighting hard against each opponent.''

I don't know which league will suit him best in Europe but you gotta believe being one of the best in J-League should be enough for a starting role in a mid-table team in somewhere in Europe. I hope so.

he wasnt really that bad in S_Pulse either imo..

he got absolutely no help from the midfeild and still managed to score 11 goals and number of assists, plus few goals in cup matches..

also at one point, he scored 8 goals out of 10 games..

currently, hes the top scorer in his team and is a 3rd top scorer in the league..

and im hearing that he's gonna be the J-League mvp for the first half of the season..

after the J-league game with Yokohama, in which he scored the winner, Ahn dismissed the Lazio rumour by saying that he didn't really know about it and wasn't interested. Of course...
