The way the roster looks now: GK Johnson, Rimando, 1 spot FB Beitashour, S. Williams, 2 spots CB Besler, Gonzalez, 2 spots DM Morales, 1 spot MF Diskerud, Zusi, McCarty, pick 1 FW Johnson, Shea, Deleon, Gatt, Pontius, pick 2 the Debates: (1) Goalkeeper: Bill Hamid v Steve Clark (2) Full Back: Chance Myers v Kofi Sarkodie v Kevin Alston v Justin Morrow v Seth Sinovic v Heath Pearce (3) Center Back: [pick 2] George John v Matt Hedges v AJ Soares v Austin Berry v Amobi Okugo v Jay DeMerit v Clarence Goodson (4) Holding Mid: Perry Kitchen v Kyle Beckerman v Maurice Edu v Jermaine Jones v Sam Cronin (5) Midfielder: Conor O' Brien v Alejandro Bedoya v Benny Feilhaber v Eddie Gaven v Luis Silva v Dilly Duka (6) Forward: [pick 2] Will Bruin v CJ Sapong v Jack McInerney v Kenny Cooper v Freddy Adu v Alan Gordon v Chris Wondolowski v Juan Agudelo v Terrence Boyd Who I think Klinsy will select: 1. Bill Hamid. -Clark will have to do more to get on his radar. 2. Heath Pearce -With the need to look at our other options, we may only go 3 deep at fullback; that leaves me with Heath Pearce who adds versatility and experience. Note: Williams was his experimental pick. 3. Clarence Goodson and George John (then Austin Berry) -I don't think Klinsy is ready to give up on Goodson and he will need experience. John will go if he is healthy. If not, Klinsy will select Austin Berry. I see Klinsy not wanting to experiment much with the young defenders yet. 4. Jermaine Jones... then Maurice Edu... then Kyle Beckerman if he cannot get either of his first choices. -It's obvious that he would rather trot out Jones or Edu than an experimental MLS pick, but that's not 100% up to him. After that, everyone knows Klinsy has a man crush on Beckerman. 5. Bedoya... then O'Brien... then Feilhaber -I hope that Klinsy considers both Bedoya and O' Brien as they are ahead of Feilhaber, Gaven, and others in my eyes. However, if both of them move, I see Klinsy going with a veteran presence in Feilhaber. 6. Boyd and Agudelo -I'm going to say this one might be a no brainer. But don't underestimate how much Klinsy might want to make room for the veterans: Gordon and Wondolowski. Or; that he may want to reward Cooper for a good season. Or; he may try out some other young blood in Bruin or McInerney. Or; he could give Sapong a go after an impressive camp last season. Or; finally, he could give Adu his chance to shine like he did for Agudelo against Russia. Either way, hearts are going to be broken on this one. There are many fine options and it's a shame we can't take them all. Who I would select: 1. Steve Clark -Honestly, I would call both. But I had to pick one. Anyways, I like Hamid, but I could easily select Hamid for another camp. Clark will probably be more difficult. Also, I would want to see if Clark is a hidden gem or not. 2. Pearce 3. John and Berry (Amobi Okugo goes if John is injured) -I say pull the plug on Goodson. Bocanegra is my one old defender that I choose to keep so I say drop DeMerit, Goodson, and Onyewu from discussion unless they are significantly greater than all the other options...and after they have had many chances. 4. Jones... then Edu... then Kitchen -We have seen Beckerman enough to know that he's dead weight. Let's see what Kitchen can do. Note: I may shuffle my roster to fit O' Brien on the team if both him and Bedoya are available first. Also, I would not start either Morales or Kitchen as my DM. I would start McCarty. 5. O' Brien...then Bedoya ...then Silva -Pretty much the same deal with winter transfers for Bedoya and O' Brien; except I would select O' Brien over Bedoya first. After them, in good faith, I couldn't select Feilhaber due to his poor year. I would give it to Duka or Silva (leaning towards Silva) and prepare for the future, by giving them the experience of training with the team. 6. Boyd and Agudelo. -Have to give it to the forwards that are hot in the moment.
Charles Boehm @cboehm So far I'm hearing: N De Leon, O Gonzalez, Brek Shea, C Pontius, Sean Johnson, Sheanon Williams. #USMNT #CampMiniStrudel Charles Boehm @cboehm Sorry, clarification: I used "I'm hearing" to refer to twitter, not official/sourced word about who JK will actually call. My bad. People are getting sloppy with their attributions. A pretty well-known podcast ran with this "story" for 30 minutes. The second tweet is from ~30 minutes later on his timeline. I know Omar is a lock, Pontius should be too. Pretty confident Johnson will be there. DeLeon is 50/50. Williams is a maybe and Shea is too injured. He just started rehabbing last month.
Joshua Gatt @JoshuaGatt Gotta love that Florida view!!! Spending a wonderful family vacation in Florida!! pic.twitter.com/qdkAXtPi
Well I googled my own question, and it appears he's from Michigan. So yea, it seems safe to assume that his vacation coincides with the camp.
Really? Thought it was in Miami, woops. I guess that puts his call up in question. I guess he could fly to California between now and Monday.
@DougMacESPN Expect #usmnt roster for January camp to be released Sunday, not Monday, and to contain at least one small surprise... I'm laughing at the idea of Freddy Adu Donovan? Onyewu? I'm intrigued.
Looks like the roster will be unveiled on Fox Soccer's "Goals on Sunday" Sunday at 1:00pm ET, since Rob Stone is hinting at them making a USMNT announcement tomorrow. I would guess that Jurgen will probably be in studio as well when the roster is announced.
Adu wouldn't be a huge shock to me, he is a 'known' player. However, I can't think of anyone else. Brooks is starting regularly for Hertha Berlin.
JAB would be a pleasant surprise although the bigger surprise would be JK getting away with it. I hope is someone we haven't yet seen with our jersey.
Possible but I thought he was injured. bshredder said he was originally supposed to come to camp if not for the injury. Maybe I'm mistaken.
Yes, he even showed the pics of the operation on his Facebook page. That's why it would be a surprise. (He was only going to come to observe the US setup anyway -- also known as making Iceland jealous).
I don't think that would be a small surprise. I think it's Adu, and that's not a bad thing IMO. Has he earned it? I dunno, but he's proven himself in the jersey, and its not bad to bring in a guy with experience when so many other options are hurt.
Would someone like Jay Demerit be a surprise? Played pretty darn well last year. If we need ready made/stop-gap help for the Hex, I don't see why he shouldn't merit a look. Seriously, if Dolo and Boca are still getting looks at their ages, and Onyewu with his lack of PT, why not Jay?
