Hey guys - bringing me and 4 others to Dortmund for the May 4 (or 3rd or 5th?) game vs. Bayern. I do not speak German, and obviously want to have this planned out before we depart Atlanta. It took some convincing to my non-soccer friends that this was where we needed to go. A few questions:

    1) Do I even have a shot at buying tickets direct from the Club? (i.e., not a tout, scalper, etc.) Do they have special packages that I can sign up for?
    2) What is the best way to get them?
    3) When will they go on sale? (I noticed they aren't yet)
    4) Where should we sit? Would the terrace be bad for folks in their 60s?
    5) What is the best bar/pub/beer hall to hang out at before the match?
    6) Anything else interesting for my non-soccer friends to take in while in Dortmund?

I am hoping to seal this as a part of our trip very soon - ever since I saw Westfalenstadion on TV, I knew it was a place I wanted to go. As long as we can get in, I'll be happy...I know it might be tough, considering who they're playing! Thanks, ladies and gentleman!

In the name of the thread, you probably mean 2013. It says 2012 and maybe that`s why people dont answer you. You have to ask footyfan1 and/or smithfan. I know nuthin'.

Ha - it always takes me some time to get used to new years! Thanks for pointing that out...hope you guys can help. From reading - getting the impression, it will be near impossible to get tickets to this game without paying a premium! Any suggestions there? That will be the main concern.

Correct. If you find someone selling 4 tickets, you will probably need to pay a lot for these tickets because of the two teams playing. Hope you make it - incredible place.

possible, yes. There will be a general sale. But since you can't speak or read German and tickets go on sale via phone hotline (in German) and via eventimsports (in German), it is highly unlikely. Especially since all tickets will be sold within 5 minutes after the general sale has started. Dortmund-Bayern and Dortmund-Schalke are the 2 games with the largest interest among football fans. There aren't special packages. I know that some people from abroad have emailed the club and asked for help and sometimes, they offer to sell you tickets but I highly doubt that they will do that for the Bayern game.

    official ticket shop: http://www.eventimsports.de/shop/20/home
    reseller (original price): http://www.kartenvorverkauf-rupprecht.de/
    reseller 2 (original price): http://www.kartenvorverkauf-krause.de/
(both resellers only ship to German addresses, so you'd need a German hotel address or one of a friend or whatever ;-) ).
Ebay: http://www.ebay.de (lots of tickets will be sold there, but you can be sure to pay more than 100% of the original price, demand is very high...)
Viagogo and the other rip-off sites... (no help from me there, I don't support them).

No official date yet, the date is usually confirmed about 3-6 weeks before the game and published on this site: http://www.bvb.de/?%86%98_%1B%E7%F4%9D
You won't get tickets for the terrace. Only a few 100 tickets go on sale, the rest are season tickets.
You will most likely, if at all, get tickets for the North(North west, North east) blocks. The away sector is in the North, but it's still a good atmosphere and you will get a brilliant view of the yellow wall in the South. Obviously, you should try to get tickets for the South-West or South-East section since they are very close to the yellow wall, but seating sections. But as I said, it will be very hard to get tickets at all, the less expensive ones will be in the North.

Good question. I prefer my local Italian restaurant to a pub ;). There's a pub right in front of the stadium (Strobels), can't miss it, lots of BVB fans and lots of TVs with football inside.

When it comes to the cultural aspect (or drinking), you should jump on the train to Düsseldorf.

    good luck.

Thanks for all the advice - are all clubs this way in terms of putting tickets on sale only 3-6 weeks before matches? I noticed some teams have "Fan Clubs" you can join and said you get advance notice of ticket sales. Would that be worth it or help me at all - and does BVB have one?

They all have individual ways of dealing with tickets. Some of the clubs have already started selling all of their remaining games (Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach for example), some will only sell to season card holders (Bayern) and some sell them like Dortmund does.
It always depends on the club.

You can't join fan clubs to just to get tickets. The members of those are some of the most committed supporters of the clubs...
