Merritt Paulson @MerrittPaulson Always disappointing when deals that were done fall apart. Crazy biz but that's the biz we are in. Next option may make more sense anyway. sounds like the deal is dead
If it is indeed dead, that may be good thing. While I think he could have found success here in the US, it's tougher for a guy with his strengths, as his teammates aren't so up to par with what he brings to the table on vision, technique. I bet he's going to holland if this falls through.
All in all, I think Holland is the best bet for him. He's obviously a good young player with great potential but may not have that extra little something (I believe an extra little dab of aggressiveness) that can take you to the big teams. The Dutch have been so good at helping our players I can't but think that he would be best guided there.
Could be worthwhile if he gets to play with Jozy, that connection could be big help to get on to senior team sooner then later. Of course Jozy himself could be moving on so we will just have to wait and see.
Holland would be great for him, even spain 2nd division. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a choice where he wants to go, a team has to want him in the first place.
I don't think that the Portland deal would have gone up so fast and then died quickly unless there where new, exciting options.
Nope, his agent never confirmed that there is an offer or that they were looking for one. What was confirmed that there was a conversation between Porter and Mix, the rest is an idiotic rumor.
I'm being semantic here, but a rumor is not something we discuss when the parties involved published letters informing the public of the situation confirming an interest. Yes, there is a difference between an offer, a statement that the listener believes will create a contract if they accept, and a stated interest. But you've shown a complete disdain for Mix's judgment and MLS as a whole by saying this was idiotic.
If that tweet you quoted from the Timbers owner refers to Mix, what part of a done-deal falling apart should we consider an idiotic rumor?
I tend to accept people at their word, at least until proven otherwise. (The exception to this relates to cheating on a spouse: we'll always lie about cheating; it's just what people do.) Assuming everyone's stated words are accurate: 1) At least at the time of the "Agent's Manifesto," there wasn't even an offer from the Timbers, so there was no "deal" that could fall through. 2) If #1 is correct, MP's tweet was about some other deal (although MP seems not to recognize that a "done deal" requires a signed contract). I'm in the minority locally, but I don't think MP's tweet had to do with Mix; I think the idea of Mix was just something else that was going on contemporaneously, with many people getting a little too excited over the possibility. Tea-leave readers point out that MP has stopped following Mix on Twitter; for many, that seems to be the "smoking gun" that leads them to believe there's no chance Mix will come to MLS this year. Given how MP operates, it's not unreasonable for people to take that into account, in my opinion, but I do find it amusing that that aspect seems to carry so much weight with so many people. But then I'm a geezer. Real Corona: Feel free to PM me on CAR; I may not be online much over the holidays, but I'll get back to you.
The timing of the thing makes it look either connected or a pretty big coincidence. Also, Portland added Mobi Fehr right after that, using the same lottery process they would have likely needed to use on Diskerud, which might be why they would be thought of as substitutes even though they don't play the same position.
Huh? 16 different teams opted out of the lottery. The Allocation is for returning USMNT players and goes in a pecking order with no weighted lottery involved. Don't worry, we've all had momentary losses of MLS rules. It's a happens to the best of us.
Ives and the other reporters covering this story all seem convinced that talks are continuing between Portland and Mix and that a deal still might happen (though nothing has been signed yet). There is also speculation that Merritt's cryptic tweet is related to something else other than the potential deal with Mix. It's a different lottery process. The Timbers acquiring Fehr should not have any impact on their ability to acquire Mix.
