Hey, I have the trademark on "Washington Generalettes" as the USWNT opponent from a different three on this
My biggest concern with a small-ish crowd is the fact that we weren't even on the schedule until we complained to the powers-that-be to include us, started a petition, etc. etc. I still think though that we will have a pretty good showing and the fans will be vocal. I'm looking forward to it. Now, what do y'all think about the "premium seating" (for the free training session) to folks who pay $55 to join the US Supporter Group? Worth it to get priority for purchasing WC tix????
There you go again being politically incorrect Westside! We have Female "Generals" now! You don't need to trademark "Generalettes!"
Any word on the tickets sold so far? I think a much better price point would have been in the 20's. Remember this is a different audience. A huge part of the USWNT audience is going to be families. So very few people will only be buying 1 or 2 tickets for themselves (and maybe a friend or g/f). Most will be looking to buy 3-5. $150 is a lot for a family. In that sense its good its around Christmas, because thats the only way many families could justify it. Wanna create an event for your daughters u-12 teams? You start to look at prices in the $750 range.
The ticket sales have been very poor this fall for the tour. Portland and Phoenix had low turnouts, and Detroit was better with 17k showing up. I'm thinking that we'll see 15-17k here at BBVA.
As I said earlier, the interest in the USWNT is for the Olympics and World Cup. Beyond that, it is fairly shallow. Ticket prices are too high and my guess is walk-up will be affected by the cold weather and a Wed. night date. I've always thought any "Victory" tour was extraordinarily lame, including the Jackson's 1984 tour (an incredible financial disaster for the promoter, Patriots owner Sullivan). But apparently there is some appetite for meaningless exhibitions (and they are exhibitions, not friendlies) and figure skaters and gymnasts doing safe routines to rock music after each Olympics.
I'm thinking that the tour may have been intended to gauge interest in several markets for women's soccer, as much as it was about making some cash.
I signed the petition and I still want to go to the game but I can't due to the fact that one my daughters is in a school musical early that evening and the other has dance class plus homework and they have have an early bedtime. All lame excuses individually but enough when taken altogether. Games on school nights for me are a no go for me despite the opportunity to have my girls watch soccer playing female role models (for the most part). If I lived in town I might have taken them for just part of the game. Friday / Saturday game would have helped attendance somewhat.
If true and they can get to 19-20k . . . I think that would be a huge win in Houston as far as USSF is concerned.
Man, I don't know that they did. Since it is USSF and not the Dynamo selling the tickets I am not sure what level of outreach the federation would have such they start handing out tickets to local clubs. If it were going through the Dynamo, their ticket people have all the connections in the world through years of groups sales but my understanding is they are not even selling a single ticket.
Had not checked for tickets until now for the UsWnt.........33 a person cheapest? That's wow. I guess it works out for them it seems like most of it is pretty much sold. BBVA is not very good at walk up crowds but should be pretty good anyways in attendance. What's the lowest ya'll think I can lowball a scalper for?
IIRC, USSF is some type of non-profit organization (that's how folks got Bob Bradley's salary, they reviewed tax filings made by USSF that are public due to their nature as a non-profit). Maybe they gave tickets away to fulfill some sort of charitable endeavor quota or goal. Maybe there are all sorts of fans of Michelle Akers who want to come out and see her legacy. Maybe it's people who miss the Comets. I did check AXS after seeing this and the sections with seats in them are sort of odd in the sense that it is not an even distribution of seats available - like the corners on the east side have seats available but not the west side - it would seem that some seats would be available in all 4 corners unless there is massively disproportionate folks who wanted seats on the west side. Same on the lower endzone, just an odd pattern of available seats - which tells me that may have sold/distributed large blocks of seats or sections to groups. It's on TV so we can gauge the attendance visually.
Are we lucky that US Soccer finally figured out how to give away blocks of tickets by the thousands when they got here, if they would have figured that out sooner this whole tour would have had vastly different attendance numbers.
Actually attendance looks to be fairly consistent especially if you consider capacity of some of these stadiums: Detroit 17,000 Phoenix 11,500 Portland 10,000 E. Hartford 18,900 Chicago 19,500 SELLOUT Denver 18,500 SELLOUT LA 19,800 Rochester 13,200 SELLOUT Phoenix and Portland were pretty low but other than that numbers are similar.
Ssshh, don't bring actual numbers into this as no one cares about Womens Soccer. Detroit was 17,371 per US Soccer Match report.
I know that you read this BBVA folks. Kindly contact the management of this group and arrange for them to play in BBVA Compass Stadium this coming year. They begin their 2013 US tour in March. Thanks. (If Jen Cooper can get you to book the USWNT then surely I can get Brit Floyd) p.s. I'd like front row seats for the suggestion. !
Hopefully, I'm willing to negotiate, I hope it does not sell out before the game starts because then the scalpers just add the word "sold out" and they want to raise the prices, if I can still buy them at the box office theres room for negotiation!! #Hustle101
Funny... $33 for the cheapest seats yet I got my 2nd row endline seat for just under $50 (thanks in part to the discount for signing the petition and being on USSF email list!)
Maybe you should point out how much less they drew in Portland & Phoenix than last year. You could also list out the attendances for most of their 2010 & 2011 games, that'll blow folks away as well. There's a reason why Canetti gave that polite answer about the Dynamo sponsoring a women's team in the paper today - it's a financial disaster. If anyone runs into Julie Foudy tomorrow night, ask her if she still thinks that launching WUSA without MLS was a good idea.
