Sounds like his departure from the Globe wasn't exactly smooth, but he'll start working for BeIN Sport as a managing editor on the 29th: Frank Dell'Apa @frankdellapa Thanks for encouragement and kind words from all. Great people out there. Website should be up by Nov. 29: http://www.beinsport.tv Frank Dell'Apa @frankdellapa @ajvsell Adam, going to beIN Sport. More later.
FDA is class and had a wonderful career at the Globe. It's the end of an era. I still remember his articles on Zenga, Twellman, Shalrie and many other revs over the years taking up significant space in the Sunday paper (back when I actually read that 10+ years ago). Will look forward to his new site. Hope he has podcasts or discussions!
Frank is a good guy and I always enjoyed talking with him. He always seemed to have a rolled-up copy of the pink newspaper Gazetto dello Sport under his arm. Back in the day, the Revs used to get major coverage in the Globe (and the Herald and ProJo as well). I remember Frank having several articles on the Revs pre-season training trips to Modena, Italy, during the Zenga era. It was the kind of pre-season coverage that would be more common for the Sox, Patriots, Bruins or Celtics, with the usual stuff of who was in camp, projecting the starters, who were the guys who looked good and were likely to make the team, and profiles on the new guys. An article every single day, and sometimes big, full color photos. He also would sprinkle a lot of cultural and historical perspective into his articles, which I personally found fascinating. I believe he also did a couple of Travel articles for the Sunday paper on Tuscany while he was there. He did something similar the following year when they went to Brazil for training. Unfortunately, this decline has more to do with the newspaper industry in general than anything else. RevsLiverpool is probably not unlike most people. I know the exact day the last time I bought the Sunday Globe--it was the day my daughter was born, February 18, 2007. I can't believe there once was a time when we'd spend a leisurely Sunday reading almost the entire paper! It seems like a lifetime ago! Revs coverage has declined because of newspapers in general, but there are a lot of "niche" places on the web that cover the team, but nowhere near as high a profile as a big city daily paper. The Globe cut back on their coverage based on the interest level of the team, which has plummeted since the move to Gillette and the Revs own overall de-emphasis of everything related to public image, branding and awareness of the team. In the last year or so, Frank was covering the Celitcs, which, in the grand scheme of things, was probably a better, more secure gig, but overall, it's a tough way to make a living. Good luck to you, Frank, and I hope the new venue will be a place where your talents can shine!
A brief tribute from an old colleague, replete with the obligatory Gazzetta dello Sport reference. http://goldenboot.blogspot.com/2012/11/arrivederci-frank.html
