Saw a post on twitter mentioning a new turf field has been put down at Hofstra. Word is that there are no American Football lines on it.
Considering there isn't a football team at Hofstra any longer, I'm not surprised by this.. I wonder if it'll be blank, or if they'll have soccer and lacrosse lines stitched in.
Considering how much the group values the Cosmos brand, I don't think they could have been taken seriously at all coming out in their first home game on a field with anything other than soccer lines on it. Turf still sucks....but if they're only planning to be at this field for two or three years, getting the football lines off was the minimum they needed to do, so good job on their part. That will leave only Edmonton with a field full of the damn stuff next year.....
I imagine they won't be stitching in any lines on this new field. It will probably be the Seattle/Portland style turf where the lines can be washed off and repainted as necessary.
They told us (us meaning the supporters club) a month ago that their goal was to have no football lines. There might be some lacrosse lines but the gridiron lines will be out of it This is a nice start
So what are the white lines and what are the blue lines on there now? One must be lacrosse I gather. Looks much better without american football lines.
Ugh.... No football lines is important, but the field needs to just have soccer lines, or like DR suggested above, by the kind where they can easily interchange between the two.
The white lines are lacrosse lines. Where the lacrosse lines and soccer lines don't match up, you have blue lines. So that's why you have the white lines on the sidelines down toa few feet from each end, where the blue lines pick up and finish out the rest of the soccer sideline.
You are correct. I didn't scroll far enough through the pictures to get to the goal area.. So, no soccer lines at all then?
They sure are. I am also surprised they didn't put soccer lines. Maybe it was an oversight since the soccer season just ended.
I don't think it is an oversight. If I'm reading Hofstra's website correctly, lacrosse is the only sport that uses that stadium now. Field hockey and soccer play on their own fields. http://www.gohofstra.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=22200&ATCLID=3713844 http://www.gohofstra.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=22200&ATCLID=3713847 The good news is that a lacrosse field is an acceptable dimension for a soccer field, so they should only have to lay down the boxes, pk spot, and corner circles.
Good question - so are they simply removing the football lines and adding/replacing the with Lacrosse lines Prett crap if that is the case
I would agree 100%. They should at least pony up enough to the school to make certain it's a situation where the lines can be removed and redrawn easily to accomodate the school's lacrosse as well as the Cosmos. Again, it's going to look pretty lame to see the trumpeted, heralded return of the Cosmos on a field with anything other than soccer lines all over it...... Cosmos fans shouldn't have pie in the sky expectations, but this has got to be a minimum requirement here, come on.... Any of the borrough boys able to comment on the details of this?
Shuart Stadium is also used by a pro lacrosse team (the Lizards). The Hofstra soccer teams have their own stadium across Hempstead Tpke. Shuart Stadium is/was used for a youth soccer tournament on Memorial Day weekend, so they must have put soccer lines down for that.
