Well, we suck. Funny thing is that I'm not even angry or upset right now. Years of disappointment has made me somewhat immune to this team crapping the bed like this.

All I can do is laugh it up right now. Good luck to Honduras in the next round.

the only person i feel bad for is Hutchinson, one of the best on CONCACAF. on the bright side Hart should be fired before the Gold Cup. if our youth talent pool wasn't looking as strong this would probably be a lot more discouraging.

    Ricketts lol.

This is a sick joke and Ricketts is the punch line.
Having said that I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is the end of soccer in this country. I'd say that this is the end of the generation of players raised in a Canada that doesn't give two shits about soccer. You can see by the increasing home crowds at NT games that interest is going way up. I think that the quality of players that we develop will continue to improve now with three professional teams. Even if the development system is seriously flawed, it's still a huge improvement over the system (or lack of) that developed the current CMNT generation.
Soccer in this country is improving, it just sucks that we're not there yet.

I don't think you can pin this one on JDG2 and Hoillett. It just seems like a lack of mental toughness when going to Central America.

Embarrassing to watch, I'm sad but not surprised.

The points about soccer improving here are certainly valid. Canada's current national team has a lot of players who won't be back for 2018 qualifying. Its sad, there are a few I would have liked get to see compete at an international level, but the silver lining is that new guys are coming up who have arguably been developed better. And those young players starting today will likely come up even better still.

MLS is taking off and helping increase excitement around soccer in our country. I am a prime example of a new fan thanks to the expansion of MLS and recent international tournaments. For that reason, I'm optimistic about Canada in the future.

Unfortunately, I am out of optimism for this game. It was a good run, but it has crashed and burned in an embarrassing fashion.

I'm not pinning it on them. I'm just saying that it's ridiculous for them to wait and see when they could be down there doing something about it themselves. Lack of mental toughness in CA might have something to do with lack of quality/top experience.

I'm guilty as charged when it comes to overrating some of our players. It's all part of being a Canada fan I guess. When it really comes right down to it, the only guys who might make an all CONCACAF first or second team are Dero, Hutchinson and maybe Simpson.

the only way that could have been worse is if they scored a ninth making it the worse defeat in Canadian soccer history.

From what I heard from the announcer (I was four at the time) the 8-0 loss in 1993 was at a Gold Cup where Canada went with absolutely no intention of trying to compete. The squad was thrown together and the national team had been playing a lot, and so they decided to not really show up for the Gold Cup.

Considering circumstances, I'd say this defeat is worse. It's only just barely better on the scoreboard, and considering that Canada was supposed to come prepared, knew the stakes, only needed a tie to move on, and had tied Honduras 0-0 at home... I think this is probably the worst defeat in Canadian history.

I think what makes this one of the worst defeats was the circumstances surronding it. Usually, we're eliminated before the sixth game. But before today, we were second in the group, only needed a draw to advance with fate in our hands.......and it just all went away after the first goal by Bengston.

had Tossaint scored 1 of the 2-3 goals at his mercy, we would've prolly been singin a different tune right now.

I happened to have class between 4 and 6 today, and had to miss the game. I'm glad I did now.
What I don't understand is how did this team, who look so prepared and ready for this entire round, completely lose it today? They didn't just lose, they were hammered/obliterated/humiliated/destoryed all at once.
8-1. With all to play for in the last game, a scoreline like that is disgraceful.
And I honestly have trouble believing it. How did things go wrong? And how did everything get so bad that we're left with what has to be the runaway worst result in Canadian soccer history (no way can even Canada have a worse game than losing 8-1 in the final, most important game of qualifying)?

If Hart doesn't resign tomorrow, he's delusional.
Additionally, the top people in SC should also resign. This falls on them too.
Time to start over, no one over the age of 26 on the NT, which means saying good bye to a lot of players and a few favourites.
As for JDG2 and Hoilett, you're not welcome here. The only thing worse than a country-shopper is a scammer. Clearly they're only interested in playing for a team close to qualification against CONCACAF elite, and not against everyone else we have to play. It really shows their character and why they are at the clubs they are, they're not true competitors, they only show up for the big games.

Not trolling. Really not. Don't know much about Canadian team, assumed about equal to Honduras.

Whaaaaaaaat?????? Was that a misprint? OMG the U.S. couldn't score 8 goals against the Canadian Women's team.

Yeah, weren't they awful misses? I assume he went 90 as 'punishment'. but the Honduras win was inevitable. The best 2 teams in the group advanced, it's a scandal that Honduras almost let the Hex get away from them. Jackson's extra time miss in the home-leg was even worse.

I knew as soon as Honduras left Toronto with that scoreless draw, that it would comeback to haunt the Canadians.

Gotta take care of business at home, but I guess missing Simpson, OO, and DeRo really made it that much harder to get anything goin on the attack today after those two Ricketts misses.

Defense... yeaa, idk what to say about that. I thought coming into this game, Canada's best trait was their sturdy defense. I was kinda surprised.

The midfield as well.. they really got hogged off the ball today. I expected it to happen, cuz Honduras did a real good job in Panama winning the balls in the midfield, but i didn't think they'd have the kind of success that we saw today.

Fact is they've been mailing it in since the home game against Honduras. They went to Panama and got destroyed, which was basically foreshadowing for this implosion. The game against Cuba was a gift. But the writing was on the wall 36 chances and only 3 goals against an 11 man squad. That's deplorable, even by house-league standards.

I'm still in disbelief that Honduras and Panama are better than us, but they are. FML. I've been saying all along CONCACAF should be Mexico, U.S., Canada on lock with a bullet, but given that we can't even compete against teams like Honduras and Panama, I would venture to guess Costa Rica, Jamaica and Guatemala would make quick work of us, clearly we're not even close to top 6 in CONCACAF.
