Gorky, I know you were joking but I think it's his accessibility, transparency and willingness to remember what it's like to be a fan.

Jon Foreman, singer/songwriter/frontman for Switchfoot (my favorite band), is the same way. Dude goes way out of his way to do little acoustic concerts for free or minimal cover charge in small venues just to give fans another level of access. At larger venues, he always comes out into the crowd to sing a song or two. The band has a program to let folks meet with them and just hang out and talk before shows. Makes fans feel personally connected beyond appreciating the music.

I think Mix recognizes that for many of us he's living the dream. He's willing to let us share in it at a level most pros aren't. His reminiscences about influential people in his life. His hosting hot dog feasts. His trivia contests on this board. Just the fact that he takes the time to actually post and dialog at a level.

Make me want to see him succeed in a way that goes beyond just hoping for more talent to flow into the USMNT.

For the first time in my life I've had to drop games due to health/injury.
This time it happened. Two games. For Rosenborg.
Yesterday I did my own routine without holding back much.
Today, and for the rest of the week end, I'll be in motion and spend time in swimming pools.
Monday I believe I can step up again and give my 100% in practice for coach Janne.
Thx to all for all received help, support and all of the good wishes.

I wish our team all the best in the two upcoming games. I am not even nervous regarding the outcome or result against Antigua & Barbuda. However, I will sit up and stream the Guatemala game, and won't go to bed until we are up by 2 goals.

    Note on the funny side:
I was in Oslo yesterday, and a model agency called me up checking if I was available "for an hour or so" to have some pictures taken from behind regarding a soccer advertisement -not merchandise- close to the national stadium (Ullevål). This is a reputable model agency that wanted me to register with them a few months back, or maybe a year. I have never previously had time in my schedule to connect with them or any of their clients, since I registered.
When I showed up (a few minutes late) I saw it was several other guys there and that we all were supposed to pose together in some free kick positions inside the stadium. We did. We were also told that we were to put on some soccer jerseys they had brought in for the photo shoot. We were five guys. I didn't recognize any of them as soccer players I knew. But they were very good looking. One of the people organizing the shoot (lots of good looking girls by the way) came up with a remark during it all "you really look like one of the soccer players". And later: "yeah, he actually looks like Mix". I tried to act just as remotely interested about my resemblance to "Mix" and who "Mix" was as the other models, who probably had more interest for modeling than for soccer.
So, I just shook my head, looked to the air - and tried to act my best like the rest of the guys who wanted to get the job done instead of being caught up in small talk.
Well, the job got done. And as it did I understood what it was all about. It was an add for the World Cup Qualifiers that Norway is going to play this fall, starting with Switzerland and Cyprus this week. And the jersey I had to put on was the brand new Norway Natn'l Team Jersey.
I laughed all the way home.
And as a laughed harder and harder - tears started to block my view, and I new I had to tell the story to you guys - asking you to figure out if this was a cap-tying act.

Oh man that is hilarious...Mix, will your face be in the photos?

Because if your face is on an ad for Norwegian world cup qualifiers, that would take the hilarity to 11.

Mix, It's great that you get asked to do the modeling photo shoots. Just make sure the photographers don't talk you into something you'll never live down..... :D

It was a photoshoot for the 2002 World Cup done by the NY Times. As for being scary, judge for yourself (click on pic for the full shoot) ...

Funny story -- Kasey Keller refused to wear the original outfit and take his wedding ring off. Proved to be a wise decision.

This is why I'm glad it's no longer 2002. I don't know which picture is worse: Cobi Jones or Mastroeni.
