In the one game with Nesta Ferrari and Rivas, we had a "3+1" D With Camara on one side playing a hybrid left back/defense mid role.
Vote for Di Vaio! Italian striker gave Impact the lead with a curler Marco Di Vaio nominated for AT&T Goal of the Week 25 http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/08/marco-di-vaio-nominated-att-goal-week-25
I'm surprised the Bernier half-the-field run wasn't there. Hamid went way off his line to play the cross, and in it went 'accidently' .. but still, I prefer voting for plays that have more to it than just shots.
Yes I think so .. playing higher, anyway. That's what I anticipate. At the same time I don't think Marsch will tamper with the Bernier-Felipe-Warner triangle as somebody suggested..
Frustrated Ballack issues A-League ultimatum http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/a-league/news/1122123/Frustrated-Ballack-issues-A-League-ultimatum rehashing old news or is this being actively discussed?
I donno, A one year contract at $1.6 million sounds like it could be pretty successful. The marketing buzz alone would be pretty great.
Yeah but along with Corradi and Di Vaio the average age of the forwards by midseason will be 37. Not sure if that is all that great in the long run. I mean I'm sure they will score and on paper , they are still great players. Being 3 years shy of their 40th BD however, I really don't think its the greatest thing to have on a team. After injuries set in and the running that is involved, how long can they all keep it up? Is there really stopping father time?
Defender Nelson Rivas undergoes successful surgery Will miss the remainder of the 2012 season MONTREAL, Quebec – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday that defender Nelson Rivas underwent successful surgery to treat a micro fracture in his left knee. Rivas will be out of action for approximately five months, but will be ready for the start of next season. “It’s unfortunate to lose him for the last three games of the season, but we felt this was the best time for him to get the surgery,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “We want to ensure that he comes back in full form to reclaim his starting spot as central defender next season.” The 29 year old Colombian was the first player to join the Impact in MLS, signing on October 2, 2011, following his time with the prestigious Italian club Inter Milan from 2007 to 2011. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/10/defender-nelson-rivas-undergoes-successful-surgery
Good. I hope they take the time to give both Brovsky and Valentin(maybe ouimette as well) playing time.
Montreal is better off. Now they can look for other younger, hungrier, better talent to help them push into the playoffs in year 2.
The Italian retirement home is not over yet: BREAKING: Gianluca Zambrotta knocking (once more) at MLS’ door by Philippe Germain "Second highest paid player" means that his guaranteed salary is less than Di Vaio's $1,937,508 I trust Phillipe more than pretty much anybody, this may or may not actually happen but it seems like the calls are being made for sure. I'm afraid i don't know anything about him, should I be happy or concerned? http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/c...Zambrotta-knocking-(once-more)-at-MLS%92-door
I was thinking of Gianluca Zambrotta the other day being without a club since his release from Milan. I'm sure Nesta has something to do with it. He was an exceptional international defender in his day but that was 6-10 years ago.
Impact midfielder Felipe to undergo surgery That makes the decision to "play the kids" easier. Is Mallace a lock for the spot? And any chance Filipe will not come back 100% next season? http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/10/impact-midfielder-felipe-undergo-surgery
Season finale a likely swan song for Impact hero Sebrango MONTREAL – Chances are there will be very few dry eyes among longtime Impact supporters when the curtain is drawn on the 2012 season this weekend. Of course Montreal will be back for another season in 2013, but the same may well not be said for a player the fans have loved since 2002, even during his stint with the Vancouver Whitecaps: striker Eduardo Sebrango. The former Cuban international (above, left), who scored 51 goals in seven seasons with Montreal before the club made the jump to MLS, turned 39 years old this spring. It therefore came to no surprise when he told local station TVA Sports two months ago that this was probably his last professional season (watch it here: http://tvasports.ca/video/sebrango-songe-à-la-retraite/1791407175001). http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/10/24/season-finale-likely-swan-song-impact-hero-sebrango
Sutton will retire "I am proud of the great career that I’ve had" http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/ne...eeper-greg-sutton-will-retire-end-2012-season
As the season winds down, lots of rumors as well as news floating around. Marsch has stated that many members of the Academy will make the trip to Italy. Talk among journalists is that Mapp might not be here next year. And considering his $300k salary thats good news. Heard on Twitter than Camara's contract has ended and he's got a new agent, and while he wants to stay he also may not be back Same situation for Neagle as well. Who does everyone else want to see in the starting lineup next spring?
Mapp should stay if they can sign him down. Neagle has potential. Camara, other old Italians, Sebrango and Sutton leaving is probably for the best. I wonder if they will dip more into the academy, International market (no more old Italians please) or make some quality MLS trades. I am hoping the look first at MLS and then go for the academy. I think the crowd pleasing Euros only work once in awhile. Di Vaio for instance.
The problem is that unlike other sports, we have no idea what the length of contracts are (we only know the numbers because the players release that info). I think we were told that both Di Vaio and Nesta are signed till the end of next season, but other than that we really have no idea. Looking through the 30 man roster, we can safely say that Corradi, Montano, Sebrango, Sutton and probably Ubiparipovic are gone. Hopefully all of their replacements are Academy players, its a better long term move for all the players outside the top 18 to be youth.
I did read on Facebook that Nesta may go back to Milan but then I also read he doesn't miss Serie A at all. He might be negotiating and/or leveraging Milan to see if they need his services. At this point, the way AC is playing and struggling, he may very well go back in January. I think it depends on the get out clauses of his (Montreal) contract....
