San Carlos de Bariloche, Patagonia, Argentina When I took my wife to tour Argentina, Bariloche was her favorite city, nested in the Andes by the Nahuel Huapi lake.
My favorite cities in the world: Rio, London, NYC, Sydney, Queenstown NZ, Hong Kong Cities I hate: Lisbon, Mexico City, LA, Naples Italy, Detroit
So does New York, but yeah, I generally don't like cities that you can't see by walking. Very easy to hate L.A.
I get the sense that Angelenos don't really get what a real city is supposed to be like. Though I do like the beaches - Venice and Santa Monica are really walkable and they take the quality of the food, particularly the produce and seafood, seriously. A lot of New Yorkers I know have gone over to LA and not looked back, and I totally get it. It's pretty laid back and you can't complain about the weather.
Every major international city takes their food seriously. That is a moot point. Venice beach is nice? Ditto for Santa Monica? Wow, that is some pretty low standards you got there.
Not really. American cities in general didn't take their food seriously until very recently. Though in LA's case (or at least California), it's probably more that they have easier access to fresher, in-season produce and Pacific fisheries than seriousness. I don't mean the beaches as in the flat waterfront area with sand, but the the communities near the ocean, as opposed to The Hills and The Valley.
Every big city is possible to hate, I think. Every small city too, come to think of it. Depends what you are looking for and what's important to you. If weather is hugely important to you, then yes, L.A. kicks NYC's ass pretty much every day out of the year.
We only have 3 major international cities in the US: NYC, LA, and Chicago. The food in all those places kick ass.
Bay Area food is excellent. Napa, Berkeley, Santa Cruz and SF all have plenty of great places to eat, and much of the food is grown right here.
Last time I checked, Miami is statistically more international than all those you listed. Although it could be argued that NYC is more international since its people come from everywhere, not highly concentrated from one region.
To be fair to Miami, it's both European and Latin American. It's the banking capital of South America, but at least in the winter months, it's where the French and German come to hang out. Plus, the fashion industry brings people in from all parts.
Iam colombian and live in Colombia but I have been 6 times in the US for vacations. I have been in Florida (almost all), Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Massachussetts, NY, Rhode Island, Califronia and Nevada. And as a foreigner I can say that the best cities (taking off NYC) that I have been in the US are San Francisco and Boston and near of them comes Miami (I dont know why I like MIA so much). Other thing, I made like a a roadtrip from Boston to NYC one time and recently made the roadtrip LA-Vegas-SF-LA (taking the PCH1 by the Big Sur and getting to San Diego but just a little time) and I can say West Coast kicks East Coast ass. pd: Bay Area is the best part of the west coast, also a town called Carmel.
In terms of beauty/landscape, for sure. Despite all the hype, there is just nothing much spectacular about the east coast until you get up towards Maine.
The old cities of Europe that I have loved the most Brugge Krakow (recently visited at Euros, beautiful places and the girls are all 9-10/10's...Even the bad ones are nice...oh yeah its a really pretty city as well) Venice Florence Rome Amsterdam Salzburg in the mountains(beautiful) little city, probably not that well known Vienna and much more waiting to be discovered Now, I have never been to South America or Asia yet but they of course would have some rivals. Imo America does not have what they offer and can't rival any of them
very nice, I want to travel Scandinavia some day as well, such a beautiful part of the world that is often over looked
I would say Norway is the most beautiful Scandinavian country by far, especially the west coast. Iceland is second. But remember to bring your credit card because Norway is the most expensive country in Europe.
I am still debating to go and work their but most likely moving to Canada...Some guys at work from near that area say the border between Russia and Finland way up their is also incredibely beautiful and worth travelling up. Wish I was richer, I would just travel about until I found the spot I wanted to settle down in lol
